Hi everyone, welcome back to Super Kalam. I am your teacher Arpita Sharma and today we are going to discuss a very important topic which is how to cover your backlogs but through the help of PYQs. This is often asked question and this question I have been receiving it not just from the students who have been enrolled in the focus batch with us but also students who are a part of our Super Kalam community and family. Students have this question, why?
Because see, I understand you make timetable, you make your daily schedule, your targets, etc. But because of circumstances, sometimes because of our own laziness or inconsistency or lack of discipline, we end up creating backlogs. And when there are backlogs, this is the condition that we go through.
Ideally, backlogs are in preparation for everyone. There is no student who has not created backlogs. locks in their lifetime whether it is upsc exam or any other exam it's human that sometimes things do not go as planned and that is why we get backlogs but the solution of covering backlogs lies in your own hands you do not have to go around here and there asking people how to cover backlogs when the solution is in front of you and that is previous year questions p by q's so i'm going to tell you how uh you know strategically you can use or utilize previous year questions to cover these backlogs which are becoming a headache right now so let's start today's session let's get started with the session today now first let us understand the first step towards utilizing previous year questions to cover your backlogs they go first of all you have to identify the key areas you have to have your previous year question papers with you whether it is prelims and means both and kaunse years ke PYQs honi chahiye aapke paas? Kamse kam last 5 years ke to honi hi chahiye because major pattern change has occurred in the last 5 years.
That is why I am again and again focusing on the last 5 years. So first we will write ki prelims plus mains both previous year questions you should be having that too of the last 5 years. Pichle 5 saal ke question papers aapke paas honi chahiye.
This is the first step. Now when you have your previous year questions the second step is to identify the key areas. Key areas means the questions or the topics which have been repeated. Repeated topics here will be there.
The topics which have been repeated. The second important aspect should be the pattern of question asked. Pattern of questions which have been asked.
Now you must be wondering ma'am how to identify the pattern. It's very simple. See over here either they will ask.
how many of the above statements is or are correct. Or they will ask, which of these statements is or are correct. So here you can use elimination method. Here elimination method will be used very easily.
But here you need to rely on factual information. The concept should be very strongly imprinted in your head. Only then you will be in a position to answer this kind of question. So pattern of question ask will help you understand first of all you finally you have discovered repeatedly once you understand that then you look at the pattern then you understand how much of factual knowledge is required in this topic and how much of conceptual knowledge is required in this topic the topics which are in your backlog you will be in a position to prioritize those topics according to the type of questions repeatedly which are being asked one i have a subsep Ella point easy now I'll tell you one important thing if you go through the last five year question paper you will see that whenever questions are on geography the questions are more towards the factual side and whenever the questions are on economy questions are more towards the conceptual side now it will be easy for you according to your the time which is left for the exam and also the time that you have in hand according to that you can prioritize geography and economics accordingly and once you understand the repeatedness then you can also understand that how much time should be given to geography and economy if you want to cover backlog for example in geography endogenic and exogenic processes are being asked repeatedly then you can easily cover the backlogs on endogenic and exogenic topic if you understand that what is this you know topic hai, kaunsa aisa area hai geography ke indar, jo repeatedly pucha ja raha hai, jisko prioritize karke mujhe us topic ko importance deni hai over the other topics.
So that is the first advantage of identifying the key areas with previous year questions. So, this is your first area. That is why I am again and again in favor of asking all of you to practice PYQs.
And now you can even practice previous year questions with the help of Super Kalam. You simply go to Super Kalam and ask Super Kalam to give you 5 previous year questions on let's say volcanoes. If you have missed this topic or if this topic is in your backlog. and simply you can practice those questions with super kalam okay now coming on to the next important aspect i'll also show you how you can ask questions with super kalam now let's come to the next topic next strategy which is linking the previous year questions with your syllabus and it is foremost step that you should you know you should you know go for because if you can link your previous year questions with your syllabus it becomes really easy to identify the topics that you have missed and cover them first First of all, you should prepare according to the syllabus before you embark on the preparation journey of UPSC you should start with first having your syllabus with you because in the syllabus I have created a you know session also whether it is main answer writing or how to cover PYQs I'll link those sessions in the description box as well I have always focused on understanding the syllabus first because if you have covered your syllabus which is given by upsc then you will be next level confident in this preparation and the second step should be to link the pyqs with syllabus so if in the syllabus it is given you have to prepare let's say uh uh manly geography you have to prepare uh volcanoes or volcanoes be name other point inflation in gs paper 3 inflation is mentioned okay in gs paper 3 repo rate CRR, SLR it is mentioned, tools, monetary policy tools is mentioned. So if you prepare those particular topics through the help of PYQs, it will be easy to complete those topics.
If you do one thing, you remove the syllabus. When you come up with the syllabus, you identify the topics in the syllabus and you start preparing the topics. When you prepare the topics, you solve them through PYQs.
So this will not leave any backlog. And suppose you didn't prepare those topics separately And you have still those topics in your backlog For example, inflation topic you did not prepare You forgot about it You must have read about it in current affairs but you forgot So what you can do? Go to Super Kalam and just ask Give me 5 MCQs on inflation, 5 PYQs on inflation And solve those PYQs Through the previous year question Only the explanation which Super Kalam will give you The answer key which Super Kalam will give you Through that only your entire topic of inflation can be prepared Let me show you an example of this.
Let's say I am an aspirant and I have missed preparing repo rate or inflation. Now what I will do is I will just simply and I have repo rate, inflation, monetary policy tools, these topics in my backlog. So now what will I do? I don't have time to cover that backlog separately. I have some idea about those topics but holistically I have not prepared.
So I will understand how UPSC must be thinking while preparing questions on these topics. how upsc things can be deducted through pyqs so i'll go to super kalam now i have asked super kalam to give me pyqs on monetary policy tools okay because this was the topic which was in my backlogs let me see see from prelims 2020 prelims 2015 prelims 2023 prelims 2022 all the questions have been given to me when i practice these questions let's suppose i have practiced it okay mando practice now through the solution itself i can revise the entire topic monetary policy tools and then i can counter ask you know ask questions he explained to me what is repo rate with example see Now I've asked explain reporate to me. By the way, I can practice. It is suggesting me that I can ask these questions further. But then if I have some other questions in my mind, I can ask them also.
Now see, such a simple example Super Kalam is giving me to understand what is reporate in detail. Now what I'll do, I'll just download the PDF so that I can revise it when and wherever I want to. Okay, we are done with our second step. We are done with our second step. Link PYQs with syllabus and practice them.
Now coming on to the third step. Make a targeted study plan. This is very important.
If you are following us on Telegram, then already we are providing daily targets under GS Free Foundation Initiative. But it is very important for you to make your targeted plans. Break your entire preparation into monthly targets. and break your monthly targets into weekly targets and those weekly targets should be broken into daily targets and those daily targets should be achievable nothing should be above your real circumstances, family situation, schedule you know that your health is not right now, you are having fever or something and you have written targets that today I will be completing 4 chapters of quality, I will give 2 tests, write 5 answers, something which can be done, which can be achieved, given the circumstance or situation you are in, so you have to make daily achievable targets, I have broken down monthly into weekly targets, I have broken down weekly into daily achievable targets, and if there are any backlogs from Monday to Friday, then Saturday and Sundays should be utilized only to cover those backlogs, this should be our aim and until the backlog of one week is not completed, if someone comes in this one week backlog, then do not start the target of the second week completely, you have to make sure consistently that your backlogs are under your control, okay, the point is clear so we have so far gone through three steps, identify key areas with PYQs, link PYQs with syllabus and practice those previous year questions, make a targeted study plan and now going through the mains pyqs. practicing mains pyqs is the key to cracking or covering the backlog problem.
see when you write answers in mains for example, you are writing an answer on Mahajanpat. so if you have left the topic of Mahajanpat, if you pick up a question from the previous year's question paper and write the answer on the basis of your NCRTs with a super kalam, then understand that you don't need to touch that topic again. same applies to any other subject for example there is a question on preamble that you have practiced what you have to do is preamble topic you can take out five years previous year questions of mains pick out the question on preamble study it with super kalam or with your m lakshmikant polity book brainstorm it mind map now and answer that one question from previous year question paper and trust me when you answer it not just your confidence level will boost up You don't have to go over and over again on that topic.
You have written it down once, then again and again and again and again, you will not be in a position to forget it. Trust me. This is another important aspect of practicing PYQs from prelims and mains question paper.
And the other important aspect is get that answer evaluated by Super Kalam. I have told you the same step of Super Kalam. You have to go to superkalam.com slash chat. Your answer should be... upload and evaluate the PDF file instantly on the spot within 60 seconds you will get the necessary feedback so this is step number 4 that you have to follow and this is how through previous year questions you can cover your backlogs actually and Friday, Saturday and Sundays are very crucial to invest in covering your backlogs if you invest in covering your backlogs from Monday to Thursday then your next week will become very very peaceful so i hope this session helped you out really nicely try to utilize this particular guidance uh very uh you know strategically in your preparation from tomorrow onwards it will help you a lot and do also let me know your feedback keep have you solved some pyqs if yes what has been your experience while solving previous year questions the through the process that i have discussed in the session thank you so much everyone keep revising
