Installation Steps

Accessing the Admin Console

  1. Visit the Tailscale website.
  2. Navigate to the admin console.
  3. Log in using Google, Microsoft, GitHub, Apple, or Passkey.

Installing Tailscale on Kasa OS

  1. Download:
    • Go to the download section on Tailscale’s website.
    • Select Linux and copy the installation command.
  2. Execute Installation on Kasa OS:
    • Open terminal logs on Kasa OS.
    • Sign in with default credentials (username: cost os, password: cost os) and port 22.
    • Paste the copied command into the terminal.
    • Enter your Kasa OS SSH password.
    • Wait for the installation to complete.

Logging into Tailscale

  1. Execute sudo tailscale up.
  2. Copy the provided URL.
  3. Open the URL in a browser and log into your Tailscale account.
  4. Connect the device:
    • Press the connect button.
    • Successful connection will display "success" under the login URL in the terminal.

Connecting Other Devices to Kasa OS

  1. Select Operating System:
    • Download the Tailscale client for your device's OS (MacOS, iOS, Windows, Linux, or Android).
  2. Installation and Login:
    • Install the client and log in to your Tailscale account.
    • Verify your device appears in the Tailscale admin console.

Testing the Connection

  1. Change the network to one without access to Kasa OS.
  2. Attempt to refresh Kasa OS without Tailscale; it won't work.
  3. Connect via Tailscale:
    • Open Tailscale client.
    • Navigate to network devices > my devices > Kasa OS.
    • Use the Tailscale IP to verify connectivity.
