"Clarity" Vocabulary: Key Words, Roots, and Tricks

  • Root words and vocab focus: articulate (clear), unintelligible (not clear), incomprehensible, equivocal (unclear), unequivocal (clear).
  • Synonyms for "clear": articulate, explicit, distinct, evident, noticeable, prominent, coherent, transparent, obvious, conspicuous, limpid, convincing.
  • Antonyms for "clear": implicit, equivocal, ambiguous, incoherent, cryptic, arcane, uncanny, nebular.
  • Remember root tricks: "articulate" = to express clearly; "equivocal" = equal voices, unclear side; "explicit" = easily explained; "limpid" = crystal clear like water.

"Quarrelsome" Vocabulary: Root Bell/Bellona

  • Root "bell" comes from Bellona, Roman goddess of war; words with this root relate to fighting.
  • Quarrelsome synonyms: rebellious, contentious, truculent, irritable, petulant, fractious, churlish, crabby, grouchy, feuding, acrimonious, bitter, short-tempered.
