I think we can all agree that Gallagher is really good. He's pretty much a staple in every break team and just a solid option in general. So today I wanted to share what I believe to be his best possible build.
I don't want to waste any of your time so these are the build requirements. Gallagher will run in S 5 multiplication, which is a 3 star abundance light cone from Wishing. He'll need 147 speed, or 137 with Ronmeimei at talent level 10, and 2 piece Bonwak. That's it.
We'll go over it more in detail later, but my My recommended relic sets are 2-piece messenger with any of the 2-piece break sets or passerby, Fonwack is locked in and mandatory for the pointer set, outgoing healing body, speedboots, HP or defense orb, and an energy regen rope. So how does this build work and why is it good? First off, this build allows Gallagher to take 4 turns in the first cycle of MOC or in the first 150 action points of any battle. This means he can generate 4 skill points which already makes him the most powerful most SP positive character in the game. This is only possible thanks to his A4 trace Organic Yeast combined with two other powerful action advancing tools in Multiplication and Bonwak.
So at 147 speed with Bonwak, Galagher will literally take his first turn before an ally or enemy with 245 speed wood. Multiplication will keep the ball rolling for the rest of the fight and thankfully it does proc off his enhanced basics as well. This is very important since break teams demand so many many skill points to run.
Firefly moves so fast and wants to use her enhanced skill every turn. HMC will want to skill every now and then for more toughness damage and energy. Even for Acheron teams, if you can generate more skill points, that means your Pella can have a two turn alt rotation even with resolution shines by using her skill more frequently.
And of course, that means more Crimson Knots for Acheron. Beyond just skill points though, there are many other advantages to taking this many turns, so let's go over them. You can see we have two two different rotations here but the end result will be the same.
Each one will have him basic attack three times with one alt and one enhanced basic. In total this means he's doing 80 toughness damage to a single target or 120 with Ronmei May which is by far the most for any support character. Just for reference these enemies all have 100 toughness and just with Ronmei May alone you can break them by the time he uses his first enhanced basic.
Now in a team with a break focus hyper carry like Boothill or Barth fly you ideally don't want to be breaking with Gallagher but him outputting this much toughness damage makes it so much easier for them. Another thing Gallagher does is his ult applies the Basada debuff which makes enemies receive 12% more break damage at talent level 10 and because this is factored in after calculating base damage it's a very noticeable and potent amplifier. Part of Gallagher's job is maintaining this for as high of an uptime as possible and when you're taking a ton of turns it's much easier to outpace your enemies and ult. always have it applied.
The other advantage to ulting often and maintaining besotted is also for defensive reasons. Allies that attack enemies in the besotted state will recover a good chunk of HP, and by extension, since his rotations are accelerated, he's going to be using his enhanced basic attack earlier, which means you're getting that team-wide heal from his A6 more frequently. This is especially useful for sustaining characters that don't attack often or at all, like Bronya in boot-heal teams.
So how do you actually achieve this? build. 147 or technically 146.8 speed might seem a bit daunting but it's actually not that bad. We do have our work cut out for us with Gallagher having a base speed of 98 but we can do this. Speed Boots brings us up to 123. Two Piece Messenger will take it to around 129. 137 is all we need if we're running Ronmeimei so that's four substats in your relics.
You have four slots so it's very likely that you can achieve it even if none of them have additional relics. rolls. Even though we want a two-piece break effect or passerby as our second set to pair with messenger, it's nowhere near required and you can just run two random pieces with high speed on them. You definitely want to prioritize hitting that speed requirement first and it's especially important to forget set and just go for subsets if you aren't running Ronmeimei. Hitting 147 speed needs you to have 8 to 10 speed subs instead of 4 depending on how they rolled.
It's not the most impossible task but I'm not going to say it's easy either. If you have a super high speed relic that no one's using, you can just use that to carry the build as well. Again, you want an outgoing healing body, speed boots, HP or defense orb, and an energy regen rope. For substats, again, it's speed until you reach 137 with Ranmei or 147 without, and then you can go all in on break effect.
HP% and defense percent are good rolls, you want them to be tanky. Effect res is also very nice to have, especially paired with the 78. percent he gets in total from his minor traces and E1. If he reaches 100% F res then he's immune to all debuffs with some exceptions. Two-piece Bonwak is mandatory for the 40% action advance at the start of battle and of course you need to equip him with an S5 multiplication. Even though Gallagher's playstyle is fairly straightforward there are a few things I want to share that you can take advantage of as well.
First off you always want to ult with him immediately following a basic or skill. You never want to ult just randomly unless it's for an emergency where you can break the enemy or get a heal off with his action advance. Ideally you're going from basic into ult immediately, that way you get another turn for free without losing any action points.
Most of you already know about this, but what if he's not at full energy? Since he has 124.4% energy regen rate thanks to the rope and vonwak, we can take a quick look at our character details. If he has 86 energy or more, His next basic attack will give him enough for his ult and you can choose to ult right away, which will advance him forward 100%. If he has at least 73 energy, you can actually use his skill to fill his ult completely. This is pretty useful if you also have an ally with low HP or you need to cleanse them with his E2, but this also makes his rotations even quicker.
You do go net minus two on skill points since you're using one and not generating one with that action, but It's okay, he's already generating so many skill points already. So there are a few downsides to this build that I do want to touch on. Most of them are alleviated by his allies but they're still worth noting.
By prioritizing speed you are giving up potential break effect rolls that are important for his outgoing healing conversion and also personal super break damage. In teams where you run HMC you're already getting anywhere between 70 to 100% break effect team-wide at all times so this isn't really an issue. He could be doing slightly more super break damage, but the vast majority of your team's damage will come from the hyper carry whether it's Firefly or someone else.
Ronmeimei also gives a flat 20% break effect team-wide as well, which is more than 3 max break effect substat rolls. And as for his outgoing healing bonus, the conversion caps out at 150% break effect, which again, with all the other sources mentioned above, this shouldn't be an issue to reach and even if you can't, it's okay if you don't hit it. Because he's attacking more frequently, he's able to ult and enhance basic attack more, which ends up making it easier to keep the team alive. I'm going to show you my Gallagher build as an example. This is my EU account, so I'm still working on him.
Get his talent to 8 or 9 at least. Major traces are mandatory, and I'd also get all his minor traces if you can, break effect ones being the most important. But aside from his talent, nothing else is really worth leveling, but you can increase his skill level a little in case you need it for an emergency heal. But overall, he doesn't demand that many resources from you, and Multiplication being a 3-star light cone makes it much cheaper to build as well.
But that's pretty much it. I hope this helps, and one last note here, even if a new 5-star break-oriented healer is released, Gallagher will still be very good. You don't need to build him, but he is worth it. Thank you for watching, I will see you next time.
