Discord is probably removing these badges. There's a new Discord feature to help you if you get scammed, that is going to be used to scam people. Oh god. Discord is making their in-development video quest a dystopian horror. And- another Discord user is going to jail.
So starting off with my favorite feature, it's a Discord feature that's meant to help you if you get scammed, but it's gonna be used to scam people. But I'm on Discord previews, link in the description, and Discord is working on an account recovery feature. Now, the way this account recovery page will pop up is not entirely known right now, but chances are if you get your Discord email changed or you get your password changed, there will be a link in the email that allows you to recover your account.
Now, in terms of this feature, I'm going to start with the good stuff, you know, what it should be used for, and then I'm going to go to the bad stuff, what it will be used for. If this feature was used in a perfect scenario, it's actually quite beneficial, because instead of having to go to Discord's support page and deal with Discord support, which is basically non-existent, instead you can go through an automated process that allows you to, I don't know, do Discord support's job. Now, initially when I first saw this, I thought it was just a fancy choose a new password page, which they do allow you to do, but... this is actually a good feature because what this allows you to do is change your account's email address back to the previous email address. If you've been on Discord, you've probably been contacted by someone that pretends to be Discord support.
They'll say, I accidentally reported your account, they work with Discord support, and the only thing you need to do to not get banned off Discord is either send the person $300, or they'll show you a cool Discord certificate showing that they really do work for Discord. The Photoshop job on these are horrible, but people still fall for the scam. But eventually, they'll gaslight and trick you into changing your Discord account email to their email. And once you do that, they have complete access to your account.
But now with this account recovery feature, you can completely revert your email address. address back to your original email address and you don't have to deal with discord support so that fake discord support scam now becomes less potent but ever since i covered that scam it has actually gotten worse now the scammers when they're on your account they will add two-factor authentication to your account using their own phone and once they do that you try contacting discord support they basically tell you to go yourself discord support does nothing to help you at least that's what i've been told by a couple people that have fallen for the scam With this account recovery feature, what it should allow you to do is remove any multi-factor authentication configuration on your account. So if these scammers try to lock you out of your account by using two-factor authentication, then the account recovery feature should prevent that from happening.
This is really good. It makes the Discord support scam less dangerous. And let's get to the negatives.
This account recovery feature, in theory, is a powerful tool, but Discord is also professional bag fumbler 9000. Because it turns out they actually have this exact system. in the past. They had some automation which did all of what the screenshot shows, so it allows you to remove phone numbers, change the password, remove multi-factor authentication, and that would work if you opened a hacked account ticket on Discord support in specific circumstances. And it would do this all automatically for you, which is great. However, since you can just enter any email that you want in the Discord support form, if you knew someone's email address, you could have Discord support bot reset the person's email, two-factor authentication, password, and other things without their consent.
Discord had a feature that basically allowed other people to turn off the security measures on your account. And getting someone's email address on Discord isn't hard because there's literally a bot permission to see your email on Discord. So if Discord does this exact same thing, then this feature will just become a tool used to make it easier to scam people.
But it gets even better, by the way. Well, it gets worse. but better in the funny aspect. Because there's a group of people on Discord that don't have a frontal lobe, in my opinion, that like spending a lot of money on either rare Discord usernames or Discord accounts with rare Discord badges. This feature is gonna be used to cause a whole bunch of scamming in those communities, because someone will send $2,000, you give them your Discord account, they log in, they think they're safe, they add two-factor authentication, and then once you get your payday, you just open up the account recovery thing, and you just take your account back, and you scam the guy.
Ladies and gentlemen, I have some fantastic news if you like chaos on Discord. Because these three Discord badges are either going to be completely removed from Discord, or you won't be able to get them anymore. This is the 9-11 for Discord badge goblins.
Never forget. But the reason why I'm saying this is that there's a Discord experiment called Hype Squad Removal. Now, if you don't know what Hype Squad is, if you go into your Discord settings and you scroll all the way down, there is a section called Hype Squad.
But what you're supposed to do is you're supposed to join Hype Squad, and when you do that, you get the perks of being hype. A secret newsletter. Hmm, I love getting my email spammed.
You get a hype profile badge. Because when you fill out this questionnaire, which basically is a whole bunch of nonsense, you get sorted into the one of three Discord hype squad houses, which are basically Hogwarts houses for Discord degenerates. But when you get sorted into one of these houses, yes, you do get a profile badge, which is the reason why I'm talking about this. But the final perks of being hype are squad challenges.
Now, on the screen, I'm gonna have a year. That was the last time Discord- has done a Hype Squad challenge. I don't really know what year it is.
I'm going to take a guess. It's probably like 2018 or something. That's been six years since Discord has done any sort of events involving Hype Squad houses.
It's pretty clear that Discord doesn't care about this thing anymore, and they're just trying to scrub it off their platform. And that's why Discord is getting rid of it. Because if we go back down and we go to this experiment, and we enable the Hype Squad removal experiment. Keep in mind, Hype Squad is right here underneath merch and above experiments. When I enable this experiment, it got...
Not removed, it got changed to Town Hall. Now, what is Town Hall? Well, when you click on it, it is going to take you to the Discord Town Hall server.
Uh, should you go on it? No. It's usually people arguing about how their Discord account got banned.
However, people are asking, is Discord going to delete the badge for everyone, or is the badge just going to be unobtainable? To be clear, at this moment, we have no idea. If I had to guess...
chances are actually there's no chances are it's like a 50 50 these badges are kind of like nothing burgers they really don't mean anything where if discord removed them i feel like most people wouldn't care there'd obviously be a vocal minority again it's discord's 9-11 but on the other hand i can also see discord keeping these hype squad badges just as a token of appreciation it can go either way But all I know is that if you care about Discord badges, then you might want to go to your Hype Squad settings and fill out this survey and get the badge that you want before you can't anymore. But Discord is working on an experimental feature for their video. ads aka video quests now i talked about this before but basically discord will tell you watch this advertisement video and once you finish watching that advertisement video you'll get some sort of quest reward whether it be an avatar decoration or when i covered it potentially nitro for a couple of days but looking at data mind content and discord this string of text was data mind where it says we paused the video while you were away resume to continue progress are you forced to like watch the video with your eyes is this some sort of dystopian world where you have to have eye contact with the ad to continue watching the ad is this the black mirror episode actually it kind of is surprisingly so the feature before when i recorded this wasn't out but now if you go to your discord discovery page and you go to quest there is a video quest that you can try and let me tell you it is a little bit dystopian but here's the thing if you're playing a game and you like click back to go on your game you'll notice uh discord put We paused the video while you were away.
Resume to continue progress. You're forced to have this video in the foreground, and you're forced to be, like, active on this tab. So if you go to a different tab, again, we go back, it's gonna pause the video.
They were basically forced to do this, because most people, if you weren't forced to watch the ad, people would just click play and then do something else. However, I do have a gamer exploit. You need to click play on the video quest, and you do this... right before you go to the bathroom and grab a snack and fill up your water. Oh my goodness.
And I actually have something informative to talk about. I have a booger to pick with this new video ad feature because you'll notice it's one of those adult scenes that's happening in the trailer. And if this is being sent to people on Discord that put their age as 13, um, yeah, I sure do hope Discord thought about that.
Now, there are two Discord experiments that caught my eye that are an up- upgrade to original Discord features that you might use on a day-to-day basis. Now, the first experiment we're looking at is Discord's upgraded desktop media viewer. When you open up the image, it'll look a little something like this.
A new Discord image viewer that is trying to match their new theme that they're working on. But when you open up this image, you now have the option of forwarding the image, downloading the image, opening the image, which you can already kind of do, but you've asked for probably a very long time, but you now have the option of zooming into images. Discord, you've outdone yourself. Now, The second experimental feature that caught my eye is, again, a little bit of a user interface upgrade, but Discord is working on improving their game overlay UI. We're gonna open this bad boy in browser.
I would zoom in with the new picture feature, but it's not out yet. But remember, Discord is built for gamers, the hardcore gamers that play Garfield Kart. But if you're someone that religiously uses Discord's game overlay, personally, I don't, I just have two monitors, so I put Discord on the other one. But if you have one monitor, your Discord overlay now has a new look, where you can get notifications, see who's- talking in the voice call, you can see people's streams and webcams. So we have a webcam up here and we have a stream in the bottom right.
You can also see what people are playing. And then at the very bottom, which I think is going to be the most useful for everyone, you have your mic settings, you can deafen yourself, you can turn on and off your camera, you can screen share, play a soundboard noise, or end the call. And it shows you what Discord voice chat and server you're in.
And also, just as a little tip, But Discord has their own soundboard feature for the game overlay, where you can play Discord soundboards by just setting a keybind. Hello, image, can we load? Hello?
By setting a keybind, and it'll open up the soundboard menu. Which now, with this new game overlay, looks slightly different. I never... I actually had no idea you could do this.
Yeah, you can play soundboard by pressing hotkey. But now, to wrap up this Discord news video, I'm gonna rapid-fire two hot topics at you. And it's talking about arms in jail, baby. But talking about jail, another Discord user has gone to jail.
Because there's this guy, Jack... Tashara, which I made a whole entire video talking about him, but a quick TLDR is that Jack Tashara decided to send classified military documents on Discord for the meme. And that resulted in him getting hunted down in his own home, for the meme.
And after he pleaded guilty in March, again for the meme, he is now, as of November 12th, sentenced to 15 years in jail. Of course for the meme. Now we talked about jail, but what about Arm?
Well, there is a Discord custom client called Armchord, which is basically Electron and installs Shelter and Venchord client mods and stuff. But Armchord, unfortunately, got a little bit of a fancy letter. Uh, they received a cease and desist from Arm.
As in, like, the Arm people that make computer chips, which is just f***ing hilarious that they're that insecure about the name Arm and Armchord. Yo, can someone make Coke Chord? Pepsi Chord? Nintendo Chord?
Okay, that would be egregious. Anyways, I'm gonna go legally change my name to Arm Arm. and hopefully I find my wife leg leg. What is going through my brain right now?
This is enough of me. Get me off the internet. Bye bye, folks. I love you.
