So, with the iOS 26 public beta 1 to be released here in the immediate future, possibly the next couple of days, I wanted to tell you guys a couple things about it, as well as how to get yourself eligible to join that beta. So, let's start there and go from there. Jumping right into it, we do have our iPhone 16 Pro Max running iOS 26 beta, which we've been running since WWDC. And on the right here, we have our iPhone 16e that's running iOS 18.5. So, first thing everyone's going to want to know is how to upgrade and get in if this is your first public beta. And it's very easy. If you go to settings, general, and software update, you will have an option here for beta updates. As you can see, this one is only giving me the option for iOS 26 developer beta. But if you've never enrolled before, you're going to see something similar to what you can see on my iPhone 16e here. When you go into software updates on the top here, you can see beta updates. It says iOS 18 developer beta and a list of other options. So, you have iOS 26 developer beta, iOS 18 public beta, and iOS 18 developer beta. What will appear here possibly on Monday or Tuesday of next week is one that says iOS 26 public beta. When you select that, it'll gray out, reload for a second, and then process if there is any update ready to download. And when it does, it'll show you right here when you refresh, and you will start pulling in and seeing that public beta. Now, a couple of things to know, and this is why I have both phones side by side. iPhone storage for this build does take up quite a bit of system data. So, the I the OS itself takes up about 20 gigs of data, which is a little up over what we have here on our iPhone 16e. It's not substantial, but it is still 2 gigs nonetheless. That is something to be aware of. You're going to need a substantial amount of storage just to have this download ready. And then obviously system data is 8.44 here. And this is fluctuating, keep in mind. But look at the substantial difference here at 40 gigs compared to almost 9. That's insane. It's not always going to be like that. It is in flux. Keep that in mind. But it does take up a ton more system data. Maybe it's all the caches. I'm not sure what's going on or why specifically all that extra data is needed, but yeah, it is nonetheless just something to be aware of. Now, having ran all of these betas since WWDC on my 16 Pro Max, like I said, couple feedback here. One, battery life is still not where it needs to be. It's much better from beta 1 and beta 2. However, again, this is a beta and it is still not going to be perfect and as solid as what you might have on 18.5. So, I am getting better battery life. Like I said, I'm using it about average. And yeah, I do have, as you can see, 95% battery health left with 322 cycle count. So, it's been a heavily used phone down 5%. But the caveat here is I've been running betas ever since a beta was available in 18 whatever or 26 now. It does cause battery degragation. It's known it warms up the phone. It's just not optimized. Something to be aware. So be mindful if you do download it. Now really the last thing I want to talk about performance is great now since beta 3. Beta 4 will come out which is what public beta 1 should be based off of. But one call out and I made a video already on how to go back from iOS 26 to 18. This is not an easy process. So it's very easy to opt in. Like we said, simply settings, general, software updates, right? But you will need a PC or Mac to downgrade back. It is possible, but it is a time-consuming process. And all I'm saying to let you guys know is before you update, make sure to have an iCloud backup on iOS 18.5 so you can downgrade if you need. If you don't have a backup, it will not work and you would be stuck on iOS 26. Not ideal, especially if it's tearing up your device, you're not getting good performance and battery life, which is always possible depending on what phone you're using, especially on an older one like an iPhone 11. Just something to keep in mind, guys. Just wanted to let you know what to expect and what's coming soon. So, let me know in the comments down below. Are you going to be taking the plunge in the next couple days for the public beta? Thanks for watching. We'll catch you in the next one. Peace.
