Bible the Pentatuk do you know what the Bible is yes it's a big book of stories about God and a whole lot of people right the Bible is God's story one big story in a big book full of lots of smaller books and lots of [Music] words yes and that big book of many stories can also be broken down into parts parts what do you mean i'll explain first the Bible is divided into two big parts the Old Testament and the New Testament okay and what does testament mean good question testament means proof or evidence of something that happened so the Old Testament shares true stories about what happened before Jesus and the New Testament shares true stories about what happened from the time Jesus came okay so the Old Testament before Jesus and the New Testament from the time Jesus came very good now together the Old and New Testaments contain 66 books whoa that's a lot of books how do you keep them straight understanding where each book is in the Old and New Testaments can help so the Bible is also broken down into five smaller parts based on those stories five yep the Pentatuk the historical books writings and prophets these are all found in the Old Testament and the gospels and acts letters revelation can be found in the New Testament one Bible two testaments five parts 66 different books okay and the first part was called the penta penta what pentatuk pentatou let's start there the first part of the Bible pentatuk is a fancy word for the first five books of the Bible genesis gen Genesis that's the first book of the Bible yes that's book one then Exodus is book two leviticus is book three numbers is book four and Deuteronomy is book five genesis Exodus Leviticus Numbers Dro Duro no Deuteronomy that's Pentatuk right the Pentatuk tells a story of how God's friendship with people started out good but then don't listen to God just eat this fruit when Adam and Eve chose their own way instead of God's way sin broke their friendship with God um what is sin again sin is when we choose our own way instead of God's way adam and Eve chose not to listen to God oh I remember that was bad yes and their choice made God very sad but God had a plan to fix that friendship a rescue plan oh wow yes the whole Bible is about God's rescue plan to fix our broken friendship with him in the first five books of the Bible we see God make special friendships with a few people in order to restore his friendship with all people okay so who were God's special friends well in the Pentatuk the first ones were Adam and Eve but didn't they sin and turned away from God they did and their life was very hard after that but because God loved them and all the people that came after he promised one day to send someone who would defeat the sneaky snake and sin is that Jesus yes God was pointing towards his plan to make things right again oh who else did God have a special friendship with abraham god promised Abraham that he would one day send a blessing for the whole world that sounds real amazing but I wonder what that blessing was oh I think you know him jesus yes god was pointing Abraham towards his plan to make things right again was there anyone else God had a special friendship with yes a very important leader of God's people Moses didn't he help free God's people in Egypt right when God saved the Israelites from slavery in Egypt he told them to cover their doorways with the blood of a perfect lamb that lamb was a hint about someone who would come to be a sacrifice many many years later jesus right again and just like that lamb was perfect God promised Moses that he was going to send a savior who perfectly followed God god told Moses that one day a prophet like no other would come to fulfill the law what does that mean god was telling Moses that many years later a very special someone would come who could make things right again jesus because Jesus was totally good and completely faithful to God he could restore our friendship with God and make things right again so you see even though God had a special friendship with each one of these people he pointed all of them to Jesus amazing so from the beginning God had a plan a plan to make things right these stories of Adam and Eve and Abraham and Moses are all found in Genesis Exodus Leviticus Numbers Deuteronomy the first five books of the Bible called the Pentatuk yes as we read over the Pentatuk we can see over and over again just how much God loves us so much so that he sent his only son Jesus to die for us so that he could make things right again right but all of this comes later in the story for now let's start at the very beginning [Music] minnow laugh and grow Bible historical books did you know that the Bible tells a oneofa-kind history history what's that again history is true stories about things that really happened like Bible stories yes the Bible is history it is the story of God and his rescue plan to fix our broken friendship with him the Bible is God's story his story wa the Bible is a big book of history yes the Bible is a big book of books but to help us understand the story it is broken down into lots of different parts parts what do you mean let me explain first the Bible is divided into two big parts the Old Testament and the New Testament do you remember what testament means i think so i uh well no testament means proof or evidence that something happened so the Old Testament shares true stories about what happened before Jesus and the New Testament shares true stories about what happened from the time Jesus came the Old Testament before Jesus and the New Testament from the time Jesus came right together the Old Testament and the New Testament include 66 books that's a lot of books it is and understanding where each book is in the Old and New Testaments helps us remember where to find them that's good so the Bible is also broken down into five smaller parts based on the stories the Pentatuk the historical books writings and prophets include the stories before Jesus in the Old Testament right the Gospels and Acts letters Revelation include the stories from the time Jesus came in the New Testament very good one Bible two testaments five parts 66 different books you got it but wait historical is that like history right again the second part of the Bible the historical books include the books of Joshua Judges Ruth 1st Samuel 2 Samuel First Kings 2 Kings 1st Chronicles 2 Chronicles Ezra Nehemiah and Esther uh yes it might take a little time to learn all the names of these books the historical books tell the story of Israel's time in the promised land is that the land God promised to Abraham and his family it is but they didn't get there until after the first five books of the Bible do you remember what that part is called oh I know the pentatuk right after that Joshua led God's people into the promised land that's amazing they must have been so excited to finally get there oh they were but as soon as they got there the people started to break their covenant with God over and over again i was idol covenant what does that mean a covenant is a promise between God and people god made three promises to Abraham number one that his family would become a great nation oh I remember the second promise was that Abraham's family would have their own land the promised land and they finally got there but they didn't keep their promise to God no but even though they broke the covenant God did not he continued to love provide for and rescue his people god was really patient with them yes during this time when God's people experienced many changes and ups and downs God was always reminding them that there was a plan to make things right god kept pointing his people to a later part of his story the part we call the New Testament when Jesus came yes god was always pointing his people to Jesus as the only way to fix our broken friendship with him like what happened to me Joshua one time I met a mysterious commander of the Lord's army some people believe that was Jesus something similar also happened to a woman me Deborah i was one of the leaders that helped Israel when they wouldn't listen to God we were called judges so many of us judges tried to help God's people but they kept choosing to go their own way and that got them in lots of trouble but God kept sending help to save them which pointed to our ultimate savior then God also spoke to me David he promised that someone from my family would become the forever king of Israel god pointed all these people to the time when all his promises would come true in one person Jesus our commander our savior our forever king [Music] minnow laugh and grow [Music] Bible writings and prophets do you know what a prophet is i sure do a prophet is a man with a long beard a robe and a staff well in the days of the Bible some prophets might have looked like that god has a message for you but well first of all prophets were not only men really prophets were men and women sent by God with a special message from God for his people what kind of message sometimes it was a message of warning if you do not change your ways a really bad thing is going to happen sometimes the message was one of instruction stop and turn back to God sometimes it was a message of encouragement do not be afraid there are many stories in the Bible where we read about God sending prophets especially in the Old Testament what was the Old Testament again let's review the Bible is one story divided into two big parts the Old Testament and the New Testament and the word testament means Oh I remember that testament means proof that something happened very good the Old Testament shares true stories about what happened before Jesus and the New Testament shares true stories about what happened from the time Jesus came very good and together the Old and the New Testament include five smaller parts the Pentatuk historical books Writings and Prophets the Gospels Acts Letters and Revelation one Bible two testaments five parts 66 books you remembered now the first five books of the Old Testament are Genesis Exodus Leviticus Numbers and Deuteronomy do you remember what these first five books are called the um the penta pentatuk that's it pensituke that's kind of a hard word to remember it is the pentatuk tells a story of how God's relationship with people started out good but was broken by sin then we come to the next books joshua Judges Ruth 1st Samuel 2 Samuel 1st Kings 2 Kings 1st Chronicles 2 Chronicles Ezra Nehemiah and Esther do you remember what this group of books is called it's got something to do with history oh the the historical books yes in the historical books we learn about how God was faithful even when his people were not it was during this time that God made a covenant or agreement that said if people turned away from God they would they would what well they would have to leave the wonderful land that he had given them to live in the promised land so what happened during this time god's people did turn away from him oh no so they did have to leave the promised land they did uh-oh sadly they broke the covenant for a long time do you want to take a guess how long uh 10 years no 20 a little higher 30 uh 50 490 years what that's a super long time yep 490 years and then God did something to help them what did God do ah that's where the prophets come in god sent them to his people with a message okay listen up if you will stop and turn back to God he will bring you back to the promised land and give you a new covenant a new covenant a new covenant yes a new covenant a covenant they could keep because God himself would live in their hearts and change them from the inside out wow that is so amazing it is God's many messages to his people through the prophets can be found in this part of the Old Testament which is called well it's called writings and prophets writings and prophets i better write them down yes and this part of God's big story is made up of 22 books job Psalms Proverbs Ecclesiastes Song of Solomon Isaiah Jeremiah Lamentations Ezekiel Daniel Hosea Joel Amos Obadiah Jonah Micah Nahm Habach Zephaniah Haggi Zechariah and Malachi that's a lot of writings and a lot of prophets amazing and there's something even more amazing about these books ooh what just like the Pentatuk and the historical books the writings and prophets point forward to God's rescue plan the only way to fix our broken relationship with God what does it point to not what but who oh Jesus yes in the writings and prophets the book of Psalms speaks all about a Messiah who would die for our sins the Messiah is Jesus right then the prophet Isaiah also tells about a new king that would come from the family of King David that's Jesus too yes the writings and prophets just like other books of the Old Testament point us to the one that would fix our broken relationship with God everything points to Jesus yes it does everything points to Jesus [Music] minnow laugh and grow Bible the Gospels have you ever heard the word gospel oh yes lots of times and do you know what it means i think it has something to do with Jesus but I'm not really sure it does have to do with Jesus gospel means good news the good news that Jesus came to bring and it begins in the New Testament you remembered the Bible is one story broken down into two big parts the Old Testament shares true stories about what happened before Jesus and the New Testament shares true stories about what happened from the time Jesus came that's right but that's not all those two big parts are also broken into five smaller parts the Pentatuk historical books writings and prophets the Gospels Acts Letters and Revelation and altogether those parts include 66 books one story two big parts five smaller parts 66 books right and way back at the beginning of the Bible God promised a rescue plan a rescue plan remember when Adam and Eve listened to that sneaky snake instead of God and turned away from him sin entered the world and broke their friendship with God but God had a rescue plan to fix that broken friendship with a person Jesus yes a rescue plan that pointed to Jesus all through stories in the first five books of the Bible which make up the first part the Pentatuk right then on through the second part the historical books right again then through the third part do you remember what that group of books is called the uh Can I get a hint sure god sent me with a message oh here's another message from God through his prophet i'd better write it down i know that section is called writings and prophets very good just like the Pentatuk and the historical books the writings and prophets point forward to the only way to fix our broken friendship with God God's rescue plan Jesus and that's where the fourth part comes in the Gospels made up of only four books matthew Mark Luke and John the Gospels are about the gospel the good news yes the good news that Jesus came to share and what is the good news the good news is that Jesus came to fix our broken friendship with God and he did that by dying on the cross for our sins so we can live a forever life with him wow and how do we know about what Jesus came to do because four people wrote the good news down me Matthew Mark Luke and me John we all wrote the story of Jesus from the time he was a baby until the time he went back to heaven the Gospels according to Matthew Mark Luke and John tell the story of Jesus God's son the blessing for the whole world oh I remember jesus is the blessing that God promised to Abraham yes jesus came to earth to show us what God is like god is loving god is kind god wants to heal the sick and cheer up the sad god wants to make all the bad go away do you remember how God is three persons in one god the father God the son and God the holy spirit right and because Jesus is God everything he did while on earth which we can read about in the Gospels shows us what God is like really yes because of the loving way Jesus lived and treated people we understand that God is loving god is love god is love jesus showed us that God loves all people so much so that he came to earth to live and die for them do you remember what the Old Testament was pointing ahead to the only way to fix our broken friendship with God the Old Testament pointed to Jesus jesus who said "I am the light of the world whoever follows me will never walk in darkness but will have the light of life i am the good shepherd who lays down his life for others i am the way and the truth and the life no one comes to the father except through me this is the good news the gospel God's rescue plan for the world [Music] middle and Bible Acts letters and Revelation isn't the Bible an amazing book it is the Bible is history it is the story of God and his rescue plan to fix our broken friendship with him you remember i do and the Bible is broken down into how many big parts do you remember that yep two parts the Old Testament and the New Testament and the Old Testament shares true stories about what happened before Jesus and the New Testament shares true stories about what happened from the time Jesus came you learned so much oh and I also learned that the Bible is broken up into uh five yes five smaller parts which are uh h can I look at my notes of course let's see um ah yes the Bible is broken down into five smaller parts the pentatuk the historical books writings and prophets the gospels in acts and letters and revelation you got it one story broken into two big parts five smaller parts and 66 books i don't know the pensituke has Genesis Exodus Leviticus Numbers and Deuteronomy in the historical books has Joshua Judges Ruth 1st Samuel 2 Samuel 1 Kings 2 Kings 1 Chronicles 2 Chronicles Ezra Nehemiah and Esther that's a lot of books it sure is and what about the next part writings and prophets that part is made up of Job Psalms Proverbs Ecclesiastes Song of Solomon Isaiah Jeremiah Lamentations Ezekiel Daniel Hosea Joel Amos Oadiah Jonah Micah Nahm Habach Zephaniah Hagi Zachchariah and Malachi phew good job and the next part is the Gospels it only has four books matthew Mark Luke and John very good maybe one day I can remember them all without my notes but wait that's only um 1 2 3 5 10 11 33 uh 43 books yes we've talked about four of the smaller parts of the Bible but there is one more part acts letters and Revelation right that part includes 23 books and they are Oh I better write them down ready the first book is Acts and next there are all these letters romans 1 Corinthians 2 Corinthians Galatians Ephesians Philippians Colossians First Thessalonians 2 Thessalonians First Timothy 2 Timothy Titus Phileiman Hebrews James First Peter 2 Peter First John 2 John Third John Jude and then finally the Book of Revelation Acts letters and Revelation yes you see once Jesus's mission on earth was finished he told his followers "Now it's time for you to share the good news of my kingdom to all people everywhere." What a big huge job that's probably how the disciples felt yeah what a big huge humongous job how would they do it with the help of a helper when Jesus went back to heaven he left them a helper his spirit his spirit his holy spirit the Holy Spirit gave his disciples the power for their mission the power to teach and preach the good news and make more disciples the gospel showed us that Jesus is God's rescue plan to fix his broken friendship with people in the rest of the New Testament the disciples preach the good news and teach us how to live in this friendship with God and you know what what his spirit still gives us power today really yes god's Holy Spirit changes us from the inside out and because the spirit lives in us just like in the disciples we are God's messengers to the world oh this is so exciting our relationship with God once broken has been fixed so now we can share the good news like the first disciples did for sure the Holy Spirit gives us the power to bring the good news to others so everywhere we go everyone we meet will see the light and love of Jesus in us now we can join with the disciples in the greatest mission of all time to bring more and more people into God's forever kingdom wow we sally I'm in me too and me and me too all of you yay and all of Jesus's followers everywhere we can tell everyone we meet everywhere we go about God's great love so that one day we will all live together with God the Father the Son and the Holy Spirit forever yay [Applause] [Music] [Applause] do you want more Laugh and Grow Bible what do you mean sign up for Minnow and get more Bible stories and loads more amazing shows wow how cool is that minnow is a great place to stream Christian shows for kids amazing download the Minnow app and start your free trial today yay [Music] minnow laugh and Bible born in a barn do you remember God's three promises to Abraham actually I do his family would become a great nation they would have their very own land the promised land and through that nation a blessing would come for the whole world right well after 1500 years two of those promises had come true amazing and what about the third promise you mean the promise of the blessing for the whole world the one that promised the Messiah the anointed one that's the one had that one come true too uh no oh many years had passed since the time Isaiah had spoken about that promise and the Israelites well you can imagine what they were saying where's the blessing where's the Messiah is he ever going to show up we're starting to lose hope but then something amazing happened really what in a village called Nazareth there was a young woman named Mary one day God sent an angel to give her a special message a special message what was it the angel said "You will have a son." A son mhm uh but I'm not even married mary wasn't married yet but she had promised to marry a man named Joseph then the angel said something truly amazing the baby will be a blessing for the whole world he will be the son of God that's the promise they were waiting for yes mary would give birth to the son of God the blessing for the whole world that's so amazing and if you were shocked to hear about this you can imagine what Mary must have felt like why you would think she would have passed out and fallen on the floor right then but Mary was brave she trusted God and she said "I am the servant of the Lord may this happen just as you have said." Wow mary really trusted God yes she did then the angel said "The baby's name will be Jesus." Was this the Messiah the people had been waiting for you got it i knew it so then what happened well when it was time for the baby to be born Joseph and Mary traveled to a place called Bethlehem was that a long ways away it was and they got there by [Music] a donkey that must have been hard i think so and on top of that when they got to Bethlehem they suddenly needed a place for Mary to have the baby oh did they look for a hospital they didn't have hospitals back then what about a palace i mean the son of God should be born in the best place right well or the best hotel all the ends were full so what did they do since all the ends were full Mary had her baby in a barn a barn the blessing that Israel had been awaiting for almost 2,000 years was born in a [Music] a barn oh my mary didn't have her baby in a fancy palace or a nice warm inn nope jesus was born in a stinky smelly barn next to cows and sheep and goats and chickens the promised blessing for the whole world had finally come but he didn't arrive quite the way people expected [Music] [Music] minnow laugh and grow Bible john baptizes Jesus a few months before Jesus was born another baby boy was born a relative of Jesus this little boy would grow up to be a very important person in Israel oh what was his name his name was John and some people called him John the Baptist why did they call him that because John baptized people baptized what does that mean it means that he dunked people in water like a river or a stream as a sign they were leaving their old life and starting a new life with God that they were joining God's family oh I've seen that yep even today being baptized is a way to tell others you have decided to follow Jesus i get it now when people met John well they probably had their opinions ph this guy's a little weird why did they think that well for one John didn't dress like everyone else instead of soft clothes only the finest wool and cotton for you John made his clothes from itchy camel hair and instead of eating the food most folks ate one falafu coming up yum john ate only honey and m bugs ew yuck also John didn't live in cities like everyone else where did he live out in the wilderness all by himself h he was a little strange he was but you see being in the wilderness and away from everything helped John spend time with God and that was important why because God had a mission for him oh what was that god gave John an important message to share with everyone okay everybody listen up hello i said listen up you all need to stop turning away from God because his kingdom is coming john kept preaching about the kingdom of God and as time passed more people went out to hear his message is John a new prophet but Israel hasn't had a prophet in over 400 years maybe maybe he's the Messiah the Messiah the Messiah do you remember that God had promised to send a blessing for the whole world oh I do remember the Messiah the anointed one the hope of the world that's right i am not the Messiah but he is coming and when he does he will be someone so great that I won't even deserve to touch his shoes i am baptizing you with water but he will baptize by the Holy Spirit the people were amazed ooh we're amazed i wonder who the Messiah is by now Jesus was around 30 years old and one day he came to John and said "Baptize me." Uh me baptize you i think you need to baptize me no it is right for you to baptize me so John baptized Jesus in the river and when Jesus came up out of the water guess what happened oh what what happened first something that looked like a dove came down and landed on Jesus wow what was it it was the spirit of God and then a voice came out of the air and said "This is my son whom I love very much i am very happy with him." Was that the voice of Yes it was the voice of God amazing people couldn't believe what they had seen and heard uh you saw and heard that too right who is he is he the Messiah we have been waiting for they had been waiting for a long time yes they had no one knew for sure if Jesus was the promised blessing but they went home that day very excited [Music] [Music] minnow laugh and grow Bible the Desert Temptation do you remember what happened after Jesus was baptized um let's see oh I remember the spirit of God appeared like a dove yes what else the people heard the voice of God saying "This is my son." You remembered and then the people that were there got super excited because of all that they had seen and heard right it was the perfect time for Jesus to say "Okay everybody it's time to follow me i am the Messiah." Is that what he did no not at all no well what did he do he walked off into the desert all by himself what why jesus knew what was coming he knew that being the Messiah that saving Israel and saving the world was going to be a very hard job he knew he couldn't do it unless he was very close to God his father so he went off to the desert where he could be alone with his dad how long did he stay there 40 days 40 days yes during that time he didn't eat any food he spent all that time talking to God his father and at the end of the 40 days Jesus and his dad were very very close he must have been so hungry he really was and then Jesus had a visitor a visitor who remember that sneaky snake no way he showed up yep god's number one enemy the one who had lied to Adam and Eve so sin would ruin God's world he knew that Jesus had a big job ahead that sneaky snake showed up to tempt Jesus with ways to make things easier if you really are God's son why don't you just turn these rocks into delicious bread then you can eat yum yum yum no I don't live by bread i live by the words that come from my father but I thought Jesus was really hungry he was but Jesus was trusting his father to meet his needs not food oh well what happened next the enemy took Jesus to the highest place in Jerusalem the very top of the temple jump off god will send angels to save you and then everyone will be so amazed and they will want to follow you that is not God's plan do not test God with tricks finally the enemy took Jesus to the top of a high mountain jesus could see all the kingdoms of the world so do you want to rule all these kingdoms because I can make that happen all you have to do is bow down to me so what do you think Jesus did what did he do god wanted Jesus to be a new kind of king a blessing for the whole world jesus knew God's plan was going to be very hard god's enemy said he could make it easy so what do you think i will only bow down to God leave me now [Music] am I glad to see him go me too the enemy had tried his best to fool Jesus the same way he had fooled Adam and Eve many years before but Jesus was too close to God his father to fall for the sneaky snake's tricks especially after spending all the time alone with him that's right being close to his father made Jesus strong so what happened next jesus went back to the city really why because now it was time to save the world [Music] [Applause] do you want more Laugh and Grow Bible what do you mean sign up for Minnow and get more Bible stories and loads more amazing shows wow how cool is that minnow is a great place to stream Christian shows for kids amazing download the Minnow app and start your free trial today yay [Music] minnow laugh and grow Bible jesus's disciples after spending time with his dad in the wilderness Jesus went straight to the city and began his work really what did he do he walked all around Israel saying "The kingdom of God is here i have come to share the good news." So what did Jesus mean when he said that i'll explain the kingdom of God is where God rules it's anywhere in heaven or on earth where what God wants to happen is happening and the good news what is that the good news is that Jesus the son of God the Messiah had come at last the promise God had made to Abraham was finally coming true everyone must have been so excited well not everyone what why not wasn't the Messiah what they were all waiting for oh yes but you see they had their own idea of what the Messiah would be like so when Jesus said "The kingdom of God is here," some people were like "Did you hear what he said this could be the one we've been waiting for this could be the Messiah others were like "But isn't the Messiah supposed to be a great military leader that'll free us from the big bully Romans that always tell us what to do?" H Yeah [Music] Jesus didn't look like the kind of Messiah they were expecting nah he's not the Messiah [Music] then Jesus started to do something really interesting he began collecting people collecting people yep first he saw two brothers Andrew and Simon who was also called Peter we're fishermen and Jesus said "Follow me." And they did they put down their fishing nets and followed Jesus and then he chose two other fishermen James John they got out of their boat and followed Jesus too so four people followed him and then someone else Matthew I'm a tax collector it sure seems like people didn't like him well some tax collectors weren't very popular because they cheated people but Jesus still said "Follow me." And Matthew did then Jesus kept on collecting more people philillip Bartholomew Thomas another James Thaddius another Simon and Judas that's one 2 3 12 people right 12 followers chosen by Jesus then he said to them "You will be my disciples." Dis what disciples in Jesus's day a disciple was someone who learned how to live by being with their teacher all the time i will teach you how to live a good life oh but not just any life i'm going to teach you how to live the forever kind of life in the kingdom of God wow that is good news jesus was talking about a kind of life that no one had been able to live because sin had broken God's creation so when Jesus said "I'm going to teach you how to live the forever kind of life in the kingdom of God." Well his disciples were super excited and what will we do after we start living this kind of life what will you do you're going to teach it to the whole world jesus was not the kind of Messiah that people were expecting and the people he chose to be his disciples we were surprised too i mean we're just fishermen and I'm a tax collector or I was a tax collector yay so they were just kind of regular people that's right but you know what jesus and these ordinary people would soon change the whole world [Music] [Music] laugh and Bible it's a miracle jesus and his disciples went all over Israel showing everyone what the kingdom of God was like do you know how he did that oh that's easy by teaching them well yes but also by doing amazing unbelievable incredible unimaginable things called miracles wow but uh what's a miracle miracles are signs that show people how powerful Jesus is let me tell you about three of his miracles one night Jesus was on a boat with his disciples when oh no a huge storm has taken over the sea we're going to sink we're going to die what are we going to do meanwhile Jesus was sleeping like a baby so one of the disciples said "Uh excuse me excuse me Jesus." Yes what is it we're all going to die so Jesus sat up and said "Why are you so afraid?" Then he turned to the giant storm and said "Stop." And guess what happened the storm stopped wow jesus spoke to the storm and it obeyed him yep jesus was showing his disciples that in the kingdom of God we have nothing to fear because Jesus is the king of everything yes he is another time Jesus was surrounded by thousands of people who had followed him far away from town with no food to eat boy am I hungry me too wish I'd brought a snack wish I'd brought two snacks so one of the disciples asked Jesus "Uh excuse me Jesus uh how are we going to feed all these people will this help five loaves of bread and two small fish five loaves two you can't feed thousands of people with this are you sure h but Jesus took the boy's gift and prayed over it then he started breaking pieces off and giving them to the people and then there were more pieces and more pieces and more pieces so many pieces that look every person got to eat as much as they wanted another miracle the disciples must have been so surprised oh they were jesus was giving them another sign in God's kingdom there is always enough enough food enough warmth enough love because Jesus is the king of everything you're catching on and another time a desperate man ran to Jesus saying "My daughter is sick and dying can you please help her?" By the time Jesus got to their house the little girl had died oh no but Jesus said "Don't worry she's okay." And the little girl came back to life just like that this was a sign that Jesus is king over sickness and disease jesus is the king of everything yes he is in the kingdom of God there is no sickness or death people must have been so excited oh they were but not all of them who wouldn't be excited about the miracles i'll tell you the religious leaders the Pharisees we keep track of all the rules and we're not excited at all yeah Jesus is getting too popular some people even call him a king we got to do something about this so the Pharisees went to the Sadducees we're the ones in charge of punishing the people that break the rules let's talk the Pharisees and Sadducees didn't like all the amazing miracles Jesus was doing how could they not be amazed by the miracles because they were too afraid Jesus would take over their jobs jesus is the king over everything that's right and God was about to use him to do the most incredible miracle of all time really yep so the Pharisees and Sadducees began looking for a way to arrest Jesus to stop him from doing the work his father had sent him to do [Music] [Music] laugh and Bible the sermon on the mount after Jesus collected his disciples he went everywhere healing the sick and teaching people how to live God's way get up and walk he must have been super popular he was one time so many people followed him he had to stand up high on a hill so everyone could hear his special message we now call the sermon on the mount hey I want to hear Jesus well you're not the only one ah okay i guess I'll just sit here shh blessed are the poor in spirit the kingdom of God belongs to them blessed are those who are sad they will be comforted blessed are those who don't put themselves first they will receive the whole world do you understand what Jesus was teaching i think I do i think he was talking to people who were poor and sad yes you see Jesus was making a list a list a list of people who didn't have much people who didn't use their strength to get their own way people who tried to make peace when other people were fighting and probably got punched because of it and yes people who were sad jesus was listing people who usually ended up in the back of the line not anymore in the kingdom of God you will be the happiest of them all jesus was talking about God's kingdom where things are different than people were used to it sure sounds different right it sounded like an upside down world if you've been sad you'll be happy if you've been last you'll be first if you've tried to make peace you will be the children of the King of Peace God himself wow the people that heard Jesus must have been so surprised they were i guess this means that the least important people here will be the most importantest in the kingdom of God wow zoe [Music] [Applause] that must have made everyone feel so special it sure makes me feel special and that's the point do you remember when the angels brought the message of Jesus's birth they didn't go to kings and queens the angels went to the stinky smelly shepherds out in the fields you remembered now what does that tell you about God's kingdom well that is a super duper different backwards upside down kingdom yes wow jesus sure said some amazing things that day oh and he wasn't finished the law says people who hurt you should be punished but I say if someone hits you on the cheek let them hit your other cheek too uh-oh and if someone steals your shirt you know what you should do give them your coat as well okay i don't know if I like this anymore the law says to love your neighbors uh-huh but I say here it comes you should love your enemies just as much okay I think he's crazy but Jesus wasn't crazy he was teaching them a whole new way to live the forever kind of life lived with God right right you see the old rules of Moses could only change what you did on the outside they couldn't change who you were on the inside i didn't come to make you do better things i came to make you new i came to make you the kind of person that I am a new kind of person yep a person with a new heart a heart that loves everyone just like God does a heart that puts other people first a heart like A heart like Jesus's heart you got it come to me all of you who are tired worn out and weighed down by the rules i am here to give you rest i am here to make you a new person preaching the sermon on the mount that day Jesus invited everyone into a new kind of life a life that wasn't about rules but a life about relationship a life with Jesus that can change us disciples to celebrate the Passover passover what is Passover do you remember when God sent Moses to rescue the Israelites from Egypt oh yes god sent frogs and flies and darkness and other things it was pretty crazy it was god sent plague after plague 10 plagues but Pharaoh still refused to let God's people go h he said "No I will not let God's people go." So it was time for Pharaoh to see just how powerful God can be what happened next god told Moses to have every Israelite family prepare a lamb for a special meal and then take some of the blood from that lamb and put it over the door of their houses why would God tell them to do that because for the last plague God would send an angel to take the life of every firstborn son of the Egyptians the angel would pass over the homes of the Israelites who had the blood of the lamb over their doors so the blood of the lamb saved the sons of the Israelites and ever since that day the Israelites have celebrated Passover with a special meal just like the one they had that night in Egypt when the angel passed over their homes many many years earlier i get it now so Jesus and his disciples traveled to Jerusalem where many people gathered to celebrate Passover and something very wonderful happened when he got there oh really what as Jesus rode into the city on a donkey a big crowd of people came to meet him they knew who he was yes they were so excited they waved palm branches and then laid them down in front of him that's funny what did they do that for it was their way of honoring Jesus like a welcome mat that's so cool and then they shouted "Hosana hosana blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord." It was like a parade a parade for a king everyone was so happy wait wait wait stop everything [Music] we're not happy at all not one teeny bit ah yes the Pharisees and Sadducees those religious leaders weren't happy they were very nervous hey Jesus is such a troublemaker if the Romans hear people calling him king they will send their soldiers to throw us in prison we need to stop Jesus and his followers so they came up with a secret plan to hurt Jesus oh no they can't hurt Jesus don't worry even this was part of God's plan later that night Jesus and his disciples got together to eat the Passover meal just like they did every year but this year was different during the meal Jesus got up and washed his disciples feet to show them what it really means to love and serve others then Jesus said something that surprised them all one of you is going to turn against me oh no why did he say that he knew that one of them was helping the Pharisees and Sadducees were the disciples surprised for sure they looked at each other and said "Who could it be?" Jesus knew what was going to happen he wanted to prepare his followers so he took a piece of bread and said "This is my body which is given for you." Then he picked up his cup and said "This cup is the new covenant of my blood poured out for you." What did he mean by that what does co covenant what does that mean a covenant is a promise many years before God had made a covenant a promise to bless his people now Jesus was saying that God was going to make a new covenant with them he was going to bless them in a new way but when he said "This is my body this is my blood." It sounded like this new covenant had something to do with Jesus dying and it did what do you mean why would Jesus have to die remember when the angel in Egypt saw the blood of the lamb over the door what did he do um he passed over the house and the people were safe jesus was saying that now his body and blood would save them he was saying that he was the new Passover lamb wa the disciples could not believe their ears then after dinner Jesus took some of his disciples and went to a garden to pray he knew what he had to do next and he knew it was not going to be easy after a while he said "The hour has come." And just at that moment one of his disciples arrived leading a group of soldiers sent by the Sadducees to arrest Jesus which disciple was it the disciple named Judas now everyone knew who had turned against Jesus with the help of Judas the Pharisees and Sadducees arrested Jesus just like they planned but you know what things did not go the way they planned [Applause] [Music] [Music] minnow laugh and grow Bible jesus's death jesus was going around doing the work God had sent him to do healing people and teaching them all about the kingdom of God but the Pharisees and Sadducees thought Jesus was getting too popular so they had him arrested in the middle of the night oh no what did they do to him they asked him a lot of questions are you the son of God do you think you are equal to God jesus didn't say anything but the religious leaders didn't care if he answered or not they accused him anyway he is guilty of blasphemy blasphemy blasphemy blasphemy [Music] blasphemy what does that even mean blasphemy is when someone says untrue things about God the Pharisees and Sadducees accused Jesus of saying he was God according to the Pharisees and Sadducees there was only one way a person could pay for that what was it going to jail no death no there was a problem for the Pharisees and Sadducees though what even if the Pharisees and Sadducees said Jesus was guilty they weren't allowed to kill anyone only Roman leaders could do that so they took him to the Roman governor Pontius Pilate wait what panchcho the Pilate not a pilot pontious Pilate the Roman governor and when he saw Jesus and his accusers he was a little confused [Music] are they upset what have you done that has made everyone so angry again Jesus didn't say anything so Pilate turned to the religious leaders and said "I don't see anything wrong with this man well according to our rules he needs to die now Pilate had a problem h Jesus doesn't deserve to die but but if he gets more popular I don't want the Pharisees and Sadducees to complain about me to the other Roman leaders so what did he do he thought there was only one way to keep his job as Roman governor hm well what are you going to do bring me some water i wash my hands of this situation this is not my fault so Pilate ordered that Jesus be killed on a wooden cross because according to our laws he deserves to die that is so sad jesus didn't deserve to die on the cross no he didn't but he went to the cross anyway and as he was dying he continued to show love and mercy by saying "Father forgive them they don't know what they are doing." The sky turned very dark and Jesus said "It is finished." Jesus died then the ground began to shake and a Roman guard standing nearby said "This man must have been the son of God." But where were the disciples all of Jesus's friends his mother was with him and a few of his friends the others probably didn't know what to think how could Jesus be the Messiah the blessing for the whole world if he wasn't even alive jesus had done some amazing things while he was living like lots of miracles that's right stop and he'd shown everyone that God the Father was very loving and good and powerful he had also promised that the kingdom of God was near he'd given everyone a taste of that kingdom through those miracles what's the kingdom of God the kingdom of God is when the whole world will be made new again the way God had always wanted it to be jesus promised that someday in the kingdom of God there will be no sin or sadness or sickness or death what is sin again sin is when we ignore God and go our own way sin is when we say "I don't care what you say i'm going to do it my way." And remember because God is good and sin is bad the price we pay for our sin is being apart from God oh so in the kingdom of God there will be no sin or sadness or sickness in the kingdom of God there will be nothing to be afraid of not even death but Jesus had just died ah so it seemed like none of those promises were coming true but that was not the case really what do you mean you see something more amazing was happening that Jesus's enemies didn't realize when he died on the cross Jesus took all of our sin on himself [Music] he did you see since our sin turns us away from God there can be no sin in the kingdom of God so Jesus had to fix the problem of sin and he did that by dying on the cross yes by dying on the cross Jesus paid the price for our sins yours mine everyone's wow jesus really loves us he sure does but another question what about all the things that he said about the kingdom i still don't get it if Jesus was dead how could any of those promises come true that's a really good question with an even better answer because he didn't stay dead [Music] [Music] minnow laugh and grow Bible [Music] [Laughter] he is alive jesus had been betrayed he was arrested and put to death on a cross it was a sad day yes jesus gave his life for us the sun had gone down and it was time to bury him only his mom and a few friends were there you remembered so what did they do they got help from a man i am Joseph from Arythea a follower of Jesus i am very sad that Jesus has died i have been waiting for the kingdom he spoke of to come i want to do something nice for him to show Jesus how much I loved him so Joseph did something special he went to Pontius Pilate i want to take care of Jesus' body i want to give him a grave all right go ahead now when important people died in Israel they were not buried in the ground really no their bodies were placed in special tombs that were carved out of solid rock do you mean like a cave like a small cave well Joseph had one that he was going to use someday but guess what he decided to give it to Jesus so Jesus's body was placed inside Joseph's tomb and then a big rock was rolled in front of the cave so no one could get in and [Music] then someone is here to see you pilot oh it's you again yep we're back you didn't think we'd give up that easily did you what do you want look Jesus said that he would come back from the dead and well what if his friends go to the tomb move the rock and take his body and then say "Jesus is alive." H that would cause a lot of trouble for you pilot h I never thought of that so Pilot put guards outside the tomb to make sure no one moved the rock eyes peeled we don't want anyone to move this rock yeah no one's going to get past us no sir wow so the Pharisees and the Sadducees were still worried about Jesus yep you see when Jesus was alive he said "In 3 days I will rise from the dead." Well Jesus had died and was buried on a Friday that's day one all day Saturday his body lay in Joseph's tomb with the guards keeping watch that was day two right so Sunday morning comes around day three and two women who were Jesus's friends made their way to the tomb to put spices and perfume on his body cuz that was something that people did in those days when all of a sudden what happened what happened an earthquake shook the ground and an angel appeared the angel rolled away the rock when the women arrived there lay the two soldiers passed out on the ground there lay the rock and there well there was no Jesus don't be afraid oh uh okay i know you're looking for Jesus but he isn't here he has risen just like he said he would jesus is alive what what the women were so excited they wanted to go tell their other friends what happened when suddenly don't be afraid jesus showed up he sure did no way yes way later Jesus appeared to all his disciples he explained to them why he had to die he told them the great news that death has no power in God's kingdom and then when it was time for him to leave he said "From now on you will be the ones telling others about my kingdom i will send you a helper who will fill you with the power of God you will do amazing things and then Jesus rose up into the sky [Music] amazing the disciples were very excited they didn't really know what would happen next but they knew one thing jesus was sending them a helper who would help them in a mighty big way [Music] [Applause] do you want more Laugh and Grow Bible what do you mean sign up for Minnow and get more Bible stories and loads more amazing shows wow how cool is that minnow is a great place to stream Christian shows for kids amazing download the Minnow app and start your free trial today yay
