Overview
This guide explains how to update Android apps manually, automatically, and with limited data, including key tips and important update-related considerations.
Manual App Updates
- Open the Google Play Store app and tap the profile icon at the top right.
- Select "Manage apps & device" and tap "See details" under Updates available.
- Tap "Update" next to an individual app or "Update all" to update all apps at once.
- Some updates require new permissions, which may prompt user acceptance.
- A device restart may be needed after some app updates.
- The "Update" button appears on the app's Details page if an update is available.
Automatic App Updates
- Users can set all apps or individual apps to update automatically through Play Store settings.
- Automatic updates may not work if an account on the device has a sign-in error.
- When apps require new permissions, users may be notified for acceptance.
- Restarting the device may sometimes be necessary after an update.
- The "Update" button on the Details page indicates if an update is available.
Updating with Limited Mobile Data

- Critical security updates may be applied by Google regardless of user settings.
- Clearing Play Store data resets all settings and budgets.
