Hey everybody, welcome back to the channel. In today's video I'm going to cover easy ways to remove a stuck filter off the front of your lens. Maybe you've put on a UV filter or a polarizing filter and no matter how hard you turn that thing it just won't come off of the front of your lens. So I'm going to cover three ways using simple household items to get that filter off the front of your lens. And the first item I'm going to use is a simple rubber glove.
It's just going to give you a better grip on that filter. So you can use a dishwashing glove, or I have here a medical glove, and you put that glove on, and then you grab the front of that filter with your thumb and your finger, and you try to grasp all the way around. If you squeeze it at the front end like this, what happens is you probably bend that filter and make it very hard to remove because you're... changing it from round. So you grab like this and that gives you a better grip with the rubber glove on and that helps you remove that filter easily.
The second item I have here is a piece of shelf liner from a kitchen shelf and I just cut myself a square of this stuff, but it's nice and rubbery and it gives you a good grip and you put it along the filter and it gives you that good grip so you can then Turn that filter and get it off of there so you can remove it much easier than when you don't have the good grip. The third item, and the one that's easiest to carry in your camera bag, just because it's the smallest, is a simple rubber band. Now, I like the fatter rubber bands. I think they work best. And you take that rubber band and you place it right at the junction of where the filter meets the camera lens.
Now, I happen to have here a polarizing filter that's a thin polarizer. and it's notorious for getting stuck on my wife's camera. So I use this rubber band, I put it right there, and that gives you the nice grip.
Again, you don't want to squeeze the filter on two sides. You want to try and grab it all the way around the filter, and that'll give you the nice grip having the rubber band on there. So then you can then get that grip and remove that filter off of the front of your lens. Okay, so that's a simple lesson on how to remove a stuck filter. I appreciate you watching.
