• Tofflemire: Holder for matrix band

• Cotton Pliers, Cotton Rolls, 2x2 gauzes

Procedure Overview

• The procedure is utilized when the doctor has prepared a tooth (DO on #13).
• Purpose: Helps repair missing tooth walls (mesial or distal) using the band.

Steps to Assemble and Place Matrix Band

1. Prepare the Band

   • Hold matrix band with a 'smile' facing up.
   • Fold gently without creasing.
   • Note: Smaller side (faces gum line) vs. Larger side (faces occlusal surface).

2. Insert into Tofflemire

   • "U" shape should face you.
   • Insert into the slots and tighten with the smaller knuckle.
   • Larger knob adjusts band size for molars and premolars.

3. Placement on Tooth

   • Smaller side toward gums, larger side toward occlusal.
   • Tighten the band around the tooth using the larger knob.

4. Inserting Wedges

   • Use wedges to stabilize the band.
   • Insert the wedge with its point up into the distal, using pliers.
   • Remember: Patients are numb.

5. Orientation

   • "U" of the matrix band should always face you.
   • Ensure the band tails go out of the mouth.

Removing the Matrix Band

• Loosen the smaller knob (tightens the band).
• Use finger support to prevent dislodgement.
• Gently remove the band and wedges with pliers.
