100&Change Competition Overview

Introduction

  • 100&Change is a competition aimed at funding a single, impactful proposal with a $100 million grant.
  • Organized by the MacArthur Foundation.

Objectives

  • Solve a critical, global problem with a feasible, evidence-based, impactful, durable, and just solution.
  • Open to both nonprofit and for-profit organizations, excluding government agencies.

Competition Timeline (2024-2025)

  1. Assessment (May-August 2024)
    • Use Organizational Readiness Tool to assess fit for the competition.
  2. Registration (By August 15, 2024)
    • Organizations register to participate in the competition.
  3. Application Submission (By September 5, 2024)
    • Submit proposals outlining significant problems and bold solutions.
  4. Participatory Review (October 15-November 12, 2024)
    • Applications scored and feedback provided by fellow applicants.
  5. Wise Head Panel Review (November 2024-February 2025)
    • Additional scoring and comments from expert panel.
  6. Finalist Selection (Spring 2025)
    • Up to five finalists selected to refine proposals with expert assistance.
  7. Project Development (Spring-Summer 2025)
    • Finalists develop detailed plans and community engagement strategies.
  8. Award Announcement (Winter 2025)
    • MacArthur Board of Directors selects the final grant recipient.

Application and Evaluation

  • Applications judged by criteria: impact, feasibility, durability, evidence-based, and justice.
  • Use of common rubric for scoring.
  • Organizational Readiness tool to filter suitable projects.
  • Participatory review to enhance feedback and ensure applicant benefit.

Changes in the Current Round

  • Introduction of criteria for diversity, equity, and inclusion.
  • Enhanced feedback mechanisms throughout the competition stages.

Eligibility and Requirements

  • Any organization/legal entity can apply except government agencies.
  • Must further a charitable purpose and not engage in political activities.
  • Larger organizations generally better equipped to handle large grants.
