so over the last couple of videos we've been talking about population growth and demographic data in this video we are going to expand our conversation and talk about different government policies that can be put in place that will shape and influence the society's population as always if you find Value in these videos consider subscribing and check out some of my other resources for AP Human Geography now when talking about different population policies we are talking about government we Embrace government policy down into two main categories pronatalist policies and anti-natalist policies pronatalist policies are ones that seek to promote people to have larger families and more kids this can be done by using propaganda offering tax incentives for having children offering more resources for Family Planning and reducing different economic and political barriers for families some governments will pay for daycare costs cover hospital bills and will even exempt you from having to pay income tax for having a certain amount of children all these policies try and promote individuals to have more children Russia South Korea Singapore and Denmark are all countries that are currently using pronatalist policies to try and increase their country's population Singapore for example created a National Night Out where the entire purpose is to have everyone take off work and connect with other people to well make some babies they even created a whole song that goes with the Knight and it promotes its citizens to celebrate and participate in their civic duty traditionally countries that use pronatalist policies or countries that have a low or negative Nia on the other hand we also have countries that have a high nir and may Implement anti-natalist policies which seek to reduce the amount of bursts in society for example China's one child policy set limits on the amount of children individuals could have this controversial law was put in place to attempt to prevent an overpopulation problem now I do want to note that recently China has doubled back on this policy and has started to modify it this is because the policy was so effective at limiting family sizes that China's population growth fell almost too much today China is at risk of seeing a population decline even with the change in the policy the culture in China has shifted and many people believe that smaller family sizes are what is acceptable we've also seen countries use propaganda to promote the idea that smaller families are happier families and larger families cause stress and hardships these propaganda methods seek to change the culture and reduce the country's TFR now it's not just government policies that impact natural births we can also see policies that impact migration which also has an impact of the growth of a society traditionally governments base their immigration policies around their economic needs National Security priorities and also their country's cultural value sometimes immigration policies seek to reduce the amount of immigrants coming into a country for example in 1882 the United States had an anti-immigrant sentiment and passed the Chinese Exclusion which restricted immigration to the United States other times however we can see that governments pass policies that seek to promote immigration policies such as the H-1B visa program which was implemented in the United States in 1990 allowed for more skilled workers to enter the country when immigrants are allowed into a country it tends to increase the economic output of the country it also increases the amount of diversity in the country and can lead to new Innovations and ideas plus allowing for more immigrants to come into a country has an added benefit of helping increase the country's population size even if the country has a negative nir which will help increase the country's tax base the workforce and other parts of the society that may be a need for more people well just like that another topic review video is done now don't forget to answer the review questions on the screen and smash that subscribe button also if you do need more help with AP Human Geography check out my ultimate review packet it's a great resource that'll help you get an A in your class and a five on the national exam as always I'm Mr sin thank you so much for watching and I will see you next time online
