Summary of Villa for Sale Play

Hello guys, this is Mansi from AVT Haati Church and now we will start our literature reader's unit 13. The name of the unit is Villa for Sale. Villa is a big house with lots of luxuries. And it is written by Sacha Giltry. So it is basically a drama. Drama is like play in theatres. So we call it drama. Drama is a drama in which there are different... characters who change dialogue or perform in different scenes so that is a drama ok so firstly, as the name of the chapter is Villa for Sale so this means there is a villa which is on sale means a villa which someone wants to sell now before getting into the story that what is the whole story firstly we will see its characters so the main thing is that there is a villa so what is the story? So the first main character is Juliet. Juliet is the owner of this villa. And then we have a character which is maid. Jo Juliet ki hain wo karte hai. That is the maid. And then there is a couple, Gaston and Jenny. Jo ki villa ko dekhne aayenge. And then again there is last character which is Mrs. L. Smith. Which is an American filmmaker. So let's see what are the conversations here Finally who buys the villa or not Let's see So the first scene starts between the maid and Juliet Juliet which was the owner of the villa So the conversation starts Maid asks Juliet Don't you feel bad that you are selling your villa? So Juliet says If someone had bought it on the same day I had put it on sale Then I would have felt bad But now it's been a month and nobody is buying it Many times people finalize the house but still they don't buy it So now he is saying that he wants to sell this house in any way Even if he has to sell it in less money So he tells the maid that when I bought this house I bought it in 50,000 francs Franc is French currency The currency used in France is francs I bought this house for 50,000 francs I wanted to sell this house for 200,000 francs But since I don't know how to buy a house I will sell it for 100,000 francs Because I want to sell it quickly and leave from here So, Ummeel asks her why she wants to sell this villa so soon as it is a good house and she can stay here. So, she tells that she has some financial problem and she needs money. That's why she wants to sell this villa. Okay, then she continues. The owner Juliet thinks that I don't understand why this villa is not being sold. I had thought about it. As soon as I will bring it on sale, many people will start fighting for it and will buy it quickly. Now the reason for this is that this villa is so close to the Join Villa. Join Villa is a production house in France where the film shooting is done. So the villa was very close to it. So she thought that it is in such a good location, so many people will buy it. So the maid says that she remembered from Joinmila that she needs an off from 9 to 12. So Juliet asks why she needs an off and why she has to go. So the maid says that there is a shooting tomorrow and I have to go for the role of a maid. So Juliet is very fond of the role of a maid. So she says that the film she was making she wanted an original maid. So the maid says that she wants to make a new role of a maid. role play. So that's why she has signed me. Plus she tells They are giving me 100 francs for this much hour's performance per day That's why I couldn't reject them And they told me that since I am getting 400 per month They are giving me 100 for a day That's why I couldn't refuse such a good offer So, Juliette is shocked that 100 for a day That is a big amount So, she says that if you allow me Then I will wait for some time I will think and ask them nervously that do you want to do a role? there is a role of a cook so Juliet says that I didn't come on such a bad day that I should go there and shoot as the conversation is going on, Juliet remembers that the agent had to send a lady to see Ajwila so she asks the maid that when the lady had to come, she tells her the time, she will come between 4-5 So Juliet says okay and starts some conversation At that time bell rings and Juliet thinks that lady is coming to see her So she asks her maid to open the door and she is going upstairs And if she is lady then she says that she is coming in some time so that she doesn't feel that she is waiting for her So in the scene Juliet goes upstairs and maid goes to open the door When maid opens the door So there is a couple standing there which is Gestion and Jenny So she asks the couple to go and sit there I will also go and call madam So here our scene 1 ends when Maid exits Now we will start scene number 2 So we saw that in the first scene of the drama, Maid and Juliet were talking And then in the end, the bell rings and Juliet goes upstairs So Maid After opening the door, there is a couple which is Gaston and Jenny. So, firstly they have a couple and here Jenny is interested in buying the villa but Gaston finds the villa. he doesn't want to buy it because he thinks that he will stay here for a month and all his parents will come here so this is the background, now let's see what happens in the scene when he enters the maid tells him to sit and tell him that he has come to see the villa so the maid says to him to sit Now, the maid goes and starts the discussion. So, the guest starts saying that the garden is so small outside, I don't like it at all. So, Jenny says that the interior of the house is so beautiful. So, the guest says, now instead of taking their name, I just say boy and girl. So, the boy says that you will get this interior at any cost, why do you need to buy such a big villa for it? So then the boy who is not interested in her starts to complain about her that she is useless, her room is so small, we can make her study room and so on they are having a discussion When he complains so much, Jenny says that you have to buy the villa and the house So the boy says that I don't want to buy it, I came because of you So he says that when you have come, then see the villa I didn't see it and you are doing so many bad things. So the boy says that I am not interested in watching. So the girl says that you didn't say anything when we were talking about the villa and buying the house. So the boy says that you were talking and I was just listening. So the girl says that it's good that you were watching the pictures. Why were you watching so many pictures? So the boy says that I am bored of watching the movies. So she said, you are so bored, then take the house and finish it. So the boy says, but I don't want to take the house, so why should I take it? So the girl says, I am giving this house for us. So the boy says, no, you are not taking it for us. We have to come here for only one month with difficulty. Rest your parents will stay here, your sister's children will come. You are taking it for them. So this is the only difference between them, whether to take it or not. Then finally... Jenny says if you don't want to take it then why are we wasting time here? So he says you brought it inside, you came inside after seeing the boat, I don't want to take it. So they both stand and they start going out. As soon as they start going out, Juliet's entry is made. So Juliet asks that did you see the house? And then she greets them and makes them sit. Now since they are sitting, they start talking to the villa. Juliet tells them since he is the owner. You show this to anyone. She tells him about the facilities, electricity, gas, etc. He says that he had already repaired the roof of the house. Jenny says that she likes it very much. Jenny asks him what is the price of the house. Now Juliet talks to him and says that actually I want this villa. No selling So as she says this, the guest who was not allowed to take it said, okay then we will go Then Jenny says, let them complete their talk So from ahead Juliet says that I don't have to sell this but I think you are perfect Like there are marketing strategies, so she talks like this That the house is so good, I don't want to sell it but you will take care of my house so I will sell you Jenny asks him to tell the price of the villa He starts talking about the painting He says that the painting is signed by a famous painter named Carrot The guest says that he has never heard of his name before Juliet says that it is possible but the painting has a lot of value Finally he tells that he will rent the villa for 250,000 I am ready to sell it for 50,000 francs. As soon as he hears this, the guest is shocked. He says, is it so expensive? I will never give you so much money for this villa. Jenny asks, you also quote a price. The guest says, I will only give you 60,000 francs for this house. So, Juliet is shocked. She says, it is not possible to give so less. The guest says, I will give you more. This is my last price of 200,000. I can reduce it to 200,000. It is not possible. So they both say that we don't have to buy it because it is so expensive. Now Juliet says, stand on the Juliet and tell me what I can give you less than this. Jenny says that I want to see the upper floor once. After that we will do our mind makeup. So Juliet says that I will take you first. Now the scene is that Juliet says, and takes Jenny to the upper floor and as soon as they exit the scene ends let's see what happens in the next scene so now the next scene starts in the last scene we saw that Julia takes Jenny to the first floor to show her the upper floor and the guest sitting there is waiting he doesn't go with them and he is sitting and thinking that in this villa's 200,000 francs he will get the money She says I will never give it to you. Bell rings, the main comes, opens the door and Mrs. Allsmith is standing there. The maid asks her to come inside. She asks the maid to tell her the price of the villa. She also says that French people are like this. They don't get the price checked outside. They have different business tactics. So the maid says that I don't know the price, I will call madam, you wait. Now the maid goes to call madam and when Mrs. Oldsmith comes inside, she sees the guest. And she thinks that he is Juliet's husband, means she thinks that he is also the owner of this villa. So she comes and starts talking to him and asks where is your wife. Now the guest answers that she has gone upstairs. She says that you have to sell this villa, I can't wait for long, I don't have much time, quickly tell me what is the price of this villa. He says something in such a way that you friends cannot decide quickly without discussing. Now Kestin gets a little smart and as soon as he understands that she is understanding me, she also gets into him and says yes, we have to sell the house. So he starts talking about the house like Juliet told him that there is electricity here, this is there, that is there. Again Smith says that I don't want to know all this, tell me the price. So again he starts that my grandfather had built this house and he starts talking like this. So all Smith says I only have 5 minutes and you don't waste my time, tell me the price. So he asks her to look at the house first and then discuss the price. And he says that he doesn't want to look at the house. He wants to break this villa and make a bungalow here. Because he wants to shoot a film here. So Gaston tells her the price. And the price is 300,000 francs. So as soon as he tells her the price, Smith quickly takes out her checkbook and says I am giving you a cheque card. She gives the cheque card and asks for the date. So, the guest tells her the date 24. She puts the date and makes the cheque. She gives the cheque and says write your name. I live in this hotel and meet my lawyer and complete the formality. Now the guest takes the cheque and asks that, sorry. Al Smith asked him when he will vacate the house. He said that when he will vacate the house, he will vacate it by tomorrow. He said that he will give you the house but the painting is of my grandfather. I want to keep this painting with me. He taunted him again that you French people always think about the past. We Americans always think about the future. Now the guest is very happy. He says that the price I was told was 200,000 francs. And I took 300,000 francs from this lady. Means I will get the benefit of 100,000 francs. Now if I buy this house for 200,000 francs. So after seeing that cheque, a lot happens and Mrs. Altman has gone. So now here our this scene. End of the scene. So let's come to the next scene. Now starts the last scene. We have seen that Mrs. Smith has given her 300,000 cheque to the guest in. On which she didn't even write the name. Now what she does is, Juliet and Jenny go to see the floor above. They come down. Now see the guest in was not showing interest that she wants to buy the villa. Now he wants to buy the villa but if he says it suddenly, he will be suspicious. So as they both come, they discuss a little and come that it is very good, so Jenny comes and tells the guest, let's go because Jenny also thinks it is such an expensive house, she will never agree to take it. In the meantime, Juliet said something to chat that there are two big bedrooms here and a small bedroom too. Now the guest of this time He takes advantage of it and says, if you have said something, then I have also got something to say. So he says, okay, there are two big bedrooms and a small one too. Means he... He is showing his excitement that he is getting interested after listening to this. He tells that there are two rooms for servants. He says that this is a very good thing. Jenny thinks that he is making fun of him. He says that you don't make fun and come. She says that when you went upstairs, I was thinking about your parents. I thought that your sister's children can also come and live here. There are so many rooms here. We are also going to be old one day, so we are thinking of buying this villa. He asks Juliet, how much did you pay? 200,000 francs. Juliet says yes. He takes out his cheque book and gives him a cheque cut of 200,000 francs. He asks her to give him the receipt of the formality. She takes it out and asks him to fill the name. When he starts filling the receipts, then the guest in puts the date in it. He says today is 23rd and puts the date 23rd. So Juliet says no, no today is 24th. So he says one day before, one day after, what difference does it make? Now why did he do this here too? Why did he put the date 23rd? Because when it will come in the records, it will be that Juliet sold the house to the guest in 23rd and the guest in then when his villa was done, So he sold the altsmith on 24th. So you can see he is a very business minded man. That's why he misplaced the date of Janaki. Right? So then, he takes the recipe and says that I want to take this painting with me. So that I can keep this painting with me. So he said yes and took the painting. When he came out of the house, Jenny was shocked that how he could deal so quickly. So she asked Justin, did you think that you have come to the temple for 200 rupees? He said nothing, I just earned 100,000 francs and brought a painting of a carrot. Jenny said, what do you mean? So he said, I will explain it to you later. And then he exits and the curtain falls. Means this is the end of the drama. So you saw it was very interesting and I also found it very funny. So it was in... Overall interesting drama of the course. Since it is a drama, so from this, small questions don't come. The questions with more marks will come to you.
