Introduction to Color Management

Enabling Color Management in DaVinci Resolve

1. Import Footage
   • Example: Footage filmed in S-Log3 with Sony A7S3.
2. Project Settings
   • Go to File > Project Settings.
   • Select the Color Management tab.
   • Change Color Science from DaVinci YRGB to DaVinci YRGB Color Managed.
   • Default settings: Color Processing Mode (SDR) and Output Color Space (Rec 709).
   • Click Save.

Applying Color Management

1. Color Page
   • Go to the color page and reset nodes if necessary.
   • Right-click on the clip and select Input Color Space.
   • Choose the correct Input Color Space (e.g., Sony S-Log3).
   • One-click transforms log footage to Rec 709.

Bulk Applying Color Management

• Select Multiple Clips
  • Use Ctrl or Command + A for all clips or hold Shift to select multiple clips.
  • Right-click and set Input Color Space for all selected clips.

Considerations and Limitations

• Accuracy: Footage should be correctly exposed and white-balanced.
• LUT Use
  • Color management reduces the need for conversion LUTs but does not replace creative LUTs.
  • Creative LUTs add a specific look and feel to the footage.
