Ultimate Fights: Alien vs. The Thing

[Music] hello and welcome to a slightly different video on the channel today and this is a brand new series that I'm planning to start to do once every so often on shm talking about More Pie in the Sky stuff because most of the videos on this channel are breakdowns and reviews there will be the occasional form of content in other ways but generally speaking that's going to be the meat of the channel but this particular series as you have seen from the title is called ultimate fights and basically the purpose of this series is a very theoretical one as I said very pie in the sky and this doesn't have a huge amount of real world relevance but basically the point of this series is going to be taking two classic characters or creatures be it aliens or Monsters or whatever from movies which have never seen an onscreen pairing or rivalry And discussing what that rivalry could possibly look like and how it could pan out if there were to be a movie based around the concept now this has been done before we've seen movies like Freddy versus Jason Alien versus Predator and various others and they're generally not the best of movies but one of the reasons why that's often the case is because although they sound fantastic rivalries on paper most of them are inherently flawed and the reason why many of them are inherently flawed is because the characters that are pitted against each other they seem to be similar on the surface but they're actually not usually that compatible consider Alien versus Predator for instance yes they are both aliens they're both monsters they're both hunters and they both kill people they both look awesome have good movies and bad movies and they are both from a similar Universe there are references to the other in the other's work and they have come head-to-head on more than one occasion in both literature and on the big screen so what's the problem well inherently the problem between the two is that they're just not the same kind of creature alien is a stealth Hunter using primitive methods it's a serpent if you will it prefers darkness and claustrophobic environments whereas the Predator is the exact opposite it hunts just as well in the daytime as it does at night it relies far more on upto-date and Ever Changing technology and requires more of a wide open environment rather than a claustrophobic one due to both its size and skill set so although the pairing sounds incredible putting the awesome concept of a Predator against the equally awesome alien they're just not that compatible and at the end of the day although the predator would kill an alien because it's a good hunt the alien has no reason to fight a predator because as we've seen from the movie Prometheus the alien was created primarily for the purpose of eradicating humans now it may attack the occasional Predator thinking that it may be a human but the alien learns pretty quickly so it wouldn't continue doing that and it quite simply has no reason to attack the Predator unless the Predator attacks it first so as cool as the two things are to put head-to-head they just have no real reason to fight or at least it's a very one-sided reason in today's head-to-head match though I'm taking two characters which have every reason to fight and it's two characters which are actually two of my favorite movie monsters and simultaneously two of my favorite movie Aliens and one of them is actually alien but instead of putting it up against the Predator which is an unrealistic fight and also a mismatched one I'm putting it up against a creature which would be a far better match a far fairer match and with an outcome that's potentially quite interesting because it could go a variety of ways my match is alien versus The Thing now if you haven't seen alien any of the movies or any of the thing movies do yourself a favor and watch them at least some of them and if you've only got time to watch some I would recommend watching the first alien movie from 1979 and the original Thing movie from 1982 not the thing from another world but the John Carpenter version now the reason why these two are so well suited to go head-to-head is actually not an obvious reason because on the surface of things you would probably think why would they go head-to-head the thing assimilates people whereas alien kills people and at the end of the day their end game is actually very similar if you were to drop a bunch of Xenomorphs into a populated area of Earth and then in a different test or experiment you were to drop the thing into a heavily populated area of Earth the end game would be exactly the same the end result would always be no humans left and all alien or all things the end result would always be no more humans and only the host survives so their end game is actually surprisingly similar the goal of both creatures is to dominate their environment the interesting thing is though how they approach that end game and that goal because they come at it from funnily enough polar opposite methods alien prefers to hunt and kill every human in its environment and those that it doesn't kill are only because it needs to use them as hosts to gestate new aliens whereas the thing technically speaking doesn't kill anyone if you actually watch any of the thing movies be it the 82 version or even the 2011 version you can actually notice that the only humans who die by definition are actually killed by other people by being for instance shot in the head as one character is in the first movie the thing doesn't actually kill anyone as such because that's not what it needs it needs people to be alive not only because if it was to kill someone nobody else would believe that they were still around but also because it needs to assimilate them and become the person now the thing May well be able to do that to a dead person as well but the problem with doing it to a dead person is that the other living humans would know that that person's dead so seeing them come back they'd smell a fish or rather an alien so it needs to blend in it needs to distract people with their inter arguments distrusting each other as it whs its way in whereas the xenomorph doesn't bother with any of that it just hunts stalks and kills so the question is and the pivotal question in fact for the entire fight to work on the big screen is why would they fight because surely they have the same goal to completely dominate their environment well that's true but think about it the thing needs humans it wants to destroy them all in effect but it still needs them nonetheless alien doesn't need humans at all even if there were only one xenomorph on Earth it wouldn't strictly speaking need to take humans with face huggers and gestate them It Could Just Kill Them All if it had a long enough time so by definition the thing would view a xenomorph commonly known as alien as a direct threat not because the xenomorph would be trying to hurt the thing but because alien is killing the thing's food source now when we say food source that's not necessarily a literal thing we don't know if the thing actually gets any sustenance from humans that it assimilates but it's safe to assume that it probably does because all living things require sustenance and the thing doesn't appear to get it from anywhere else so although it becomes the person we can safely assume that it probably does get some form of nutrients from them in the digestion and conversion process so in effect the xenomorph which as far as we know doesn't seem to need to eat people as such it just kills them is destroying the thing's food source so the thing would have every reason to view the xenomorph as a threat now the big question to the movie in terms of how it would pan out is what would be the fight would they work in an actual scenario would the fight be good would it be convincing would it be interesting and would it be logical because the great thing about the thing and alien is unlike most movie Monsters they're actually very logical the way they work makes sense alien was engineered by the engineer aliens to be in effect a virus with arms and legs designed for the sole purpose of eradicating humans the thing is a primitive but potentially highly intelligent alien bacteria capable of mimicking and assimilating any living thing that it touches so how would they work against each other well some people have said that the alien could potentially have the upper hand in a fight purely because it is a silicon based life form with among other things acid for blood so surely the thing which we've only ever seen assimilate humans dogs and potentially other aliens surely the thing wouldn't be able to assimilate a silicon based life form which is what the xenomorph is well that's an interesting dilemma could the thing assimilate a Xenomorph we've never seen it assimilate anything silicon based it only seems to assimilate into organic living things and even if it did surely the acid of the alien would damage the thing and potentially kill it well here's the points that I would offer to counter that the movie could have two possible ways of panning out the fight option number one is that the thing cannot assimilate the alien because of the aforementioned silicon based nature of the xenomorph that's fair enough and that's not necessarily A Bad Thing it potentially makes the movie more evenly matched because in a pure power Showdown the xenomorph doesn't stand a chance against the thing if you've seen the movies you'll see why sure the alien is scary fast stealthy and deadly to humans but the thing only needs to touch its opponent and it's game over it immediately starts to assimilate them and whatever it doesn't finish in the moment a small derivative of it in their blood or even touching their skin will just do the job later gradually turning them into another version of the thing so in terms of sheer Firepower in effect the thing has the fight down easily if it is unable to assimilate alen however that evens the playing field considerably and it's not a p in the sky thing to say that it couldn't being silicon based would be a good Advantage for alien against it but aliens still wouldn't be able to kill the thing because as we've seen from the thing movies it was frozen for thousands upon thousands of years and all that did was stop it it didn't kill it it just couldn't move they burned it repeatedly with kerosene and shot it it had virtually no effect even its charred remains contain just as much life as it had before so if Fire and Ice even guns or potentially blades don't stand a chance against the thing what chance does a xenomorph have because at the end of the day it's essentially just a leviathan it has teeth Claws and acid for blood which is deadly against a human but means nothing against the thing it's essentially just a bug so yes it could potentially bite a chunk out of the thing with its little mouth and even if the thing couldn't assimilate it the thing could just turn that bitten-off piece into another thing if it cut the alien the acid would get over the thing and that would definitely hurt it it's not impervious to pain it's just very hard to kill nonon impossible in fact the would burn the thing it would potentially even melt it and turn it into multiple disparate Parts but as we've already established and as the movie's establish every part of the thing that breaks off just becomes another derivative of the original organism so that wouldn't kill it teeth wouldn't kill it claws wouldn't kill it and even acid wouldn't kill it so there's no doubt that the xenomorph quite simply could not kill the thing if however the thing cannot assimilate the xenomorph that does level the playing field though because it could essentially mean that you would have an unwinable fight because alien cannot kill the thing but the thing can't assimilate the alien surely that would be the outcome well actually no because think of it this way in the newer version of the thing the 2011 movie the thing comes up against people as always but in different way many people criticize that film and although I'm not saying that it's anywhere near as good as the 82 film it's certainly not it's still not a bad movie and one of the reasons why I would actually say it's a good movie is because it gives us more of an insight into how the thing works if you compare the two movies the newer version of course being a prequel to The Original film immediately preceding the events of the first movie you notice a marked difference in the way the thing acts in the John Carpenter movie the thing doesn't attack people that often it prefers to blend in to the last second only changing when it's forced to it wants to hide and think about this in the original movie We're shown that the thing can hide we're shown that it can think can create things very well it's as intelligent as a human and it shows some level of its transformative ability we don't see its strength though we don't see how ferocious it can be either we see it assimilate a couple of people in scary looking ways but we don't really see how strong it is or how fast it can be or just how ferocious the thing can be not to the full degree anyway the 2011 movie on the other hand shows us exactly how ferocious the thing can be it transforms every time it gets the chance and some people have criticized the movie for that and I can understand it doesn't seem to line up with the actions of the thing in the 82 movie but think of this we just said that it's a precursor to that film upon landing on Earth and being frozen the thing has never come into contact with humans before so how could it possibly know how they would react so of course it's going to bum rush people it's going to attack people whenever it gets the chance because it views these people as easy prey once it assimilates a couple of them it realizes just how frail these human beings are and of course it's going to go For the Kill by the second film however the original movie from 82 it's learned that people are smart they band together even when they don't trust each other out of necessity and they can be a lot more deadly when they're working together so the thing learns that in order to actually win in this scenario it needs to be much more covert that's cool I like that people criticize the newer film but that's actually a very clever twist that it shows the alien being capable of learning tactics that gives us an insight into the thing not only does it apparently take on the knowledge and Technology of whatever it assimilates but it also learns very quickly within the space of the two movies which take place in a timeline that's immediately after each other it learns to completely change its tactics and I think that's a very very clever move on the part of the writers so what's my point in this regard well think of this in the newer film we don't see it assimilate as many people people we do however see it attack a lot of people it transforms whenever it gets the chance with massive teeth and Claws and grotesque hooks growing out of its body as it splits its host apart think of that regardless of assimilating abilities that's a pretty hefty Arsenal at its disposal huge teeth multiple rows of teeth and claws in fact hooks slashing objects of various kinds incredible speed agility it can break through walls it can burst through floorboards it can withstand gunshots knife wounds and even Flames to a great degree and it is incredibly dextrous almost spider likee in the way that it moves so even if it couldn't assimilate a xenom mo it could still potentially rip it to Pieces purely with the power of its claws and teeth and with its sheer movement ability it could easily outpace and outmaneuver a xenomorph in that case it would seem to be a bit of a stack deck against alien the thing would clearly win regardless of whether or not it could assimilate the xenomorph so why am I saying that it would be a good fight surely it would be unfair to the xenomorph well not really and the reason why it's not unfair is because as with every movie that shows alien in numbers that is the alien's strongest point the reason why Predator could never beat Alien in a real scenario is quite simple it doesn't matter how big your gun is when you're fighting millions of opponents the Predator may have lasers blades and tactics but when it's up against thousands upon thousands of Xenomorph it doesn't matter how skilled he is as a warrior they're going to overrun him eventually and exactly the same thing Could Happen against the thing now they still couldn't kill the thing but what they could do is kill his food source and if those Xenomorphs start killing every person in the vicinity which they would that's going to be a big threat to the thing he can't assimilate dead people from what we've seen the thing goes out of it way to try and keep people alive even trying to diffuse situations where the humans around it would have just killed each other why doesn't the thing just let that happen surely it would be easier to assimilate dead bodies well apparently not it seems to want the people to be alive so if the Xenomorphs are going around killing all of the people in the area they're destroying the thing's food source so it has a direct reason as to why it would want to attack the aliens but at the same time there would be so many Xenomorphs or aliens that the thing would really have its work cut out as far as how the movie would pan out well there are a lot of options for a story if they were to land in a builtup area the movie would be fairly detrimental to humans they wouldn't stand a chance so it would have to be a fairly remote area it would have to also honor the timelines of both alien and the thing while at the same time being in an area that's populated enough to have plenty of humans at risk but at the same time not so much that everyone on Earth knows about alien because although it would be an awesome movie you don't really want to contradict the timelines of the original film where people aren't aware of what the Xenomorphs are but based on the timelines and based on the locations where we've seen the thing and also to degree in Alien versus Predator the xenomorph fighting such as in snowy areas you could potentially have a great battle in that regard I would personally love to see that fight is it something that's ever going to happen most probably not unfortunately but that's it overall for this dream fight it's something which as I just said probably is never going to happen but I think could be a potenti potentially awesome rivalry they are both Primal ferocious and deadly creatures with grotesque but at the same time beautiful designs and really as far as aliens and monsters go they're about as a perfect match as you could get but that's it for my initial dream pairing in a movie I hope you've enjoyed this breakdown of the abilities and possible outcome of the fight between the two and if there are some kind of rivalries that you'd like to see between movie characters or movie creatures feel free to slap that down in the comments below I'd love to hear what kind of rivalries other people would like to see and I am planning to make more of these in the future but that's it overall for this inaugural episode I'll see you guys next time and as always thanks for watching [Music] he [Music]
