Maintenance Guide for Bamboo Lab 3D Printers and AMS Unit

Disconnecting the AMS System

  • Remove AMS system
  • Push input to feeder mechanism and pull filament out
  • Remove two middle filament spools to access the connector at the back
  • Leave outside filament spools in AMS unit
  • Press connector holding PTFE tube and pull out the back of the AMS
  • Pinch tab to release six-pin electrical connector
  • Turn off the power to the printer
  • Pull off AMS and set aside
  • Clean top glass with window cleaner and set aside

Weekly or Monthly Tasks

  • Blowing out Fans:
    • Use compressed air or electric blower
    • Target Fans: auxiliary cooling fan, front cover fan, hot end fan (requires removing hot end cover)
    • Clean extruder gear
  • Cleaning Camera and Lidar:
    • Clean camera weekly (with ABS printing) or when image gets blurry
    • Clean lidar every 3-5 days (with ABS or ASA printing)
  • Cleaning Carbon Rods:
    • Check for dust or buildup monthly
    • Clean every 5 rolls (ASA or ABS)

Lubrication and Greasing

  • Linear Rods:
    • Clean and apply anti-rust coating every 5 kgs/5 rolls or every six months
    • Recommended: Super Lube 52004
  • Idler Pulleys Bearings:
    • Lubricate only if noisy
  • Z-Axis Lead Screws:
    • Use white lithium grease (e.g., Lucas)
    • Grease every three months; apply dabs and move print bed up and down
    • Wipe away excess grease
    • Lubricate three lead screws (either side, back)

Regular Replacements

  • Activated Charcoal Filter:
    • Replace every three months if running 8 hours a day, monthly for 24/7 production
  • Silicone Sock:
    • Replace when worn, cracked, or won't stay on hot end
  • Filament Cutter:
    • Check every 3-5 rolls (non-abrasive), every 1-2 rolls (abrasive)
    • Replace if cutter edge isn't straight, shiny, or sharp
  • Nozzle Wiper:
    • Check and replace if damaged
    • Unscrew with 2mm Allen key and replace
  • PTFE Tubes:
    • Check every 5-10 rolls
    • Replace worn tubes in AMS unit and printer
    • Use utility knife or tubing cutter for clean cuts
  • Desiccant Packs:
    • Replace when color changes from white to yellow
    • Use reusable desiccant packs (color changes from orange to dark green when saturated)
    • Recharge in microwave and adjust to fit AMS compartments
