Ranking All Tales Games by David

hi there this is david and today we're going to be making every single english released tales of game all 19 of them this is one of my favorite series able to see on toe to toe with the best of them i feel like ever since tales of arias came out there has been a new interest in this series so since i've played them all i feel like it's my duty to let you all know which ones are the good ones and which ones to just avoid anyway let's go ahead and get this party started ranking them all number 19 tales of the tempest released for the ds in 2006. let's start with easily the worst one it is a promising story following caius a werewolf who sets out to save his parents and his fellow villagers after they're kidnapped and it takes place 100 years after the beast war where people like kaius live in hiding shunned by humanity it's a nice concept that just needs to be elaborated on but it wasn't here the game is garbage it's only 10 hours long with terrible ai and an unbalanced party bare bones graphics and an abrupt ending number 18 tales of symphony and dawn of the new world released for the wii and playstation 3 first in 2008. this was my first experience with a bad tales game personally because i like many others loved symphonia so i was excited to play this but my excitement quickly waned whenever i realized that it was nothing more than a cheap pokemon ripoff with very unlikable characters in an insipid storyline it's just so dumb with insufferable marta lusting after a coward who himself is lusting after some hot redhead who stalks him and his snotty gay dog number 17 tales of the world radiant mythology released for the psp in 2007 this is the odd man out but it's a love letter to tales of fans featuring heroes from all the previously released titles but at its core it's a dungeon crawler where all you really do is fight complete quests recruit more characters and progress onto the next chapter it is basic especially in comparison to the other tales titles out there but it's not bad like tempest and i did have fun with it there's just much better tails games out there number 16 tales of legendia released for the playstation 2 in 2005. this one might as well be a dungeon crawler taking place on a gigantic floating ship with one hub town the entire game is divided into two halves the normal game and then the character quests so after you complete the game you then have to pretty much go everywhere again to complete the character quests it's so aggravating the dungeons are long boring and uninspired and the characters are unbalanced and the magic system just sucks too number 15 tales of innocence released for the ds in 2007. like most tales games the storyline and world building is well done however it kind of falls apart with the gameplay and the dungeon design each dungeon just seems like a long copy-pasted nightmare of narrow quarters and a tons of dead ends kinda like in legendia however the story is a bit better here and that is why it's higher the world is divided into two realms one of the gods and another for humans and your characters are reincarnated gods living in the lower world and then they're trying to unravel the mysteries of their past lives it's a pretty neat concept number 14 tales of hysteria released for the ps3 4 and pc in 2015. this is a controversial one all of the ones before zysteria were pretty bad and i had high hopes for this game but man what a letdown the tales team seemed to take notes from the final fantasy 13 team by introducing tons of strange terminology and a bait and switch character in alicia the story could be interesting if it wasn't for all the plot holes and the equipment system is just a convoluted mess too it's worth playing though especially before picking up its sequel bursaria number 13 tales of destiny released for the playstation in 1997. from here now it is a race to the top destiny was the second tales game ever released and as such it's pretty basic and the ai can be questionable at times so stan has to do all the heavy lifting the four main characters each are destined to find their own swordian a talking sword who levels up independently of you and allows your characters to learn magic it's a really neat concept and because it was my first tales game it holds a special place in my heart even though it lacks a lot of quality of life improvements from future games number 12 tales of fantasia r released for the playstation in 1998. well here it is the game that started it all and my experience with it was actually this playstation remake not the original snes or that bastardized game boy advance version as the first game it introduced some staples that are still around today such as the elemental spirits the sorcerer's ring skits and cooking released in japan between destiny and eternia the battle system is much more defined and the skits are fully voiced and it still holds up to this day this is the version to play number 11 tales of hearts r released for the veda in 2014 this is easily the best portable tales game with hedeo baba even saying that it's his favorite one in the series so whenever i heard that the three games were getting remade for the vita i knew that i had to get it and it did live up to its hype the characters are funny the skits are enjoyable and the towns and dungeons are well designed too but most importantly for me was the world map i love a good world map and this is one of the best number 10 tales of eternia released for the playstation in 2000. i feel that tales of maternia is where modern tales began by introducing a main staple to the series interconnected worlds think of the world in eternity as a globe only land masses aren't on the outside they're on the insides and the two worlds of inferior and celestia are at the top and bottom of the sphere and when if you're looking up with the telescope they can actually see each other that is the world in tales of eternia it's a neat take on an old concept and i really enjoyed it number nine tales of symphonia released for the gamecube in 2003. tales of zephonia takes place in a world that's split in two there's the waning world of silverant and on the flip side of the same coin is the advanced world of tethyala driving the plot forward is the notion that both worlds are kind of caught in a strange yin and yang where they compete for the same supply of mana so while one is thriving the other one is in decline so of course lloyd's journey sets off in motion the events that will eventually unite those two worlds number eight tales of xilia 2 released for the playstation 3 in 2012. as a direct sequel to the original tales of xilia the combat system is more refined and you encounter and recruit your old party members but you do have a new hero ludger who's a silent protagonist and in a game series that spends so much time in skits and character building having a mute member just really doesn't work one other thing that also doesn't work is the debt system that keeps you from progressing until you get a certain amount of money i will say though it definitely has the most emotional moments of the entire series number seven tales of xilia released for the playstation 3 in 2011. this entry marked a change in the series it went down a darker path and included more mature stories which i personally enjoyed combat was totally revamped as well with the link system and the ac points for using arts rather than using mp also in what i believe to be a genius move you have a choice of two different protagonists whose stories are told in two different ways it's kind of similar like star ocean 2 in that regard this is the first tales made for the playstation 3 and you can really tell with all the gorgeous environments that was made for it number six tales of grace's f released for the playstation 3 in 2012. grace's is kind of an outlier in this series since it focuses more on growth and time rather than multiple worlds or racism the story follows asbell as he go through childhood to adulthood conquering everything in his path with the power of friendship utilizing a title system for gaining stats is a new but kind of overwhelming system even for tails but because of this you can customize your characters thousands of different ways the depth of the system is just astronomical so it is different but it is good number five tales of bursaria released for the playstation 3 4 and pc in 2017. one was kind of cool because it takes the typical tales formula and it turns it on its head not only do you could see the events that led up to tales of zysteria but you also get to play as the supposed villain combat's fluid fun and not overly complex like the aforementioned hysteria and the world is gorgeous also i like the whole pirate theme while many games give you a ship for the most part it's just a mode of transportation but here the world is divided into so many islands it's just so much more number four tales of destiny r released for the playstation 2 in 2006. the original tales of destiny was my first experience with the series and as i said before it needed some improvement but boy did it get it in this playstation 2 remake everything is upscaled beautifully you can customize your character's stats rather than just relying on level ups and if that wasn't enough not only can you play a stan but there's a whole separate leon path too this is the definitive way to play and man i am happy that it finally received an english translation number three tales of the abyss released for the playstation 2 and 3ds first in 2005. at first i didn't like abyss because of luke but later on i realized the story is great the character development is second to none the combat is fluid fast and fun especially if you control sexy guy and the skits are laugh out loud funny essentially the entire world's destiny is written in the score and everyone is obsessed with ensuring that the future plays out as it is written everyone's just so complacent so it's up to luke to break everybody's reliance on that score and allow people to live their own lives number two tales of arise released for the playstation 4 5 xbox and pc in 2021 i'm sure that most of you thought that this game would be number one but i try to be as impartial as i possibly can whenever i rank these games and just because it's the most recent doesn't mean that it's the best arise is a return to form with beautiful sweeping vistas gorgeous cut scenes great voice acting and a gripping story and second place is nothing to sneeze at however there's one tales game that i enjoy just a tad bit more and that's number one tales of esparia released for the xbox pc switch and playstation 4 first in 2008 this is my favorite tales game it has everything that i need a beautiful traditional world map an easy to learn skill progression system centered around your equipment kind of like in final fantasy 9 characters with great personality and clearly defined classes and a protagonist who doesn't take anybody's yuri is a take no prisoners vigilante he gets caught up in a conflict between the empire and the guilds and he will stop at nothing even murder to achieve his goals it's just so refreshing and well done be sure to pick up the definitive edition that's out for the playstation 4 not the inferior xbox 360 version though well that's it for all the mainline english release tales games ranked how would you rank the series do you agree or disagree let me know in the comments and if
