Introduction

  • Originated in 1975 with key leaders like Dr. Bill Bright and Loren Cunningham.
  • Concept of "Seven Mountains of Culture" also known as "Seven Gates of Society" or "Seven Spheres of Society".
  • Aim: Develop strategies to influence society and spread the gospel.
  • Influential figures: Francis Schaeffer - theologian promoting societal influence.

The Seven Spheres of Society

  1. Religion

    • Every society has religious beliefs; Western religions tend to be monotheistic, Eastern religions often polytheistic.
    • Christianity and Catholicism dominate in the West; postmodern views rising.
    • Generation Z is returning to family values and faith.
    • The church ("eklesia" - governing body) should influence all spheres of society.
    • Mission: Spread the love of God and the gospel internationally.
  2. Family

    • Foundation of society; when family structures break down, society follows.
    • Biblical portrayal of families as united in God’s love.
    • Issues today: Fatherlessness, high divorce rates, abuse, and redefinition of marriage.
    • Call for spiritual and biological fathers and mothers to restore family order.
    • Malachi 4:5-6 as a mandate for turning hearts and healing the land.
  3. Education

    • Once grounded in biblical values, now secular and humanistic.
    • Original education in America was tied to religion and family values.
    • Current system indoctrinates with anti-biblical values.
    • Need for reintroducing biblical truth in education.
    • Importance of educating children on biblical truth and values.
  4. Government

    • Righteousness exalts a nation; leadership influences societal morals.
    • Separation of church and state meant to protect religious freedom.
    • Need for righteous leaders, not necessarily Christian, who govern rightly.
    • Freedom of religion as a human right.
  5. Media

    • Powerful in swaying public opinion and disseminating information.
    • Rise of social media as the primary source.
    • Need for truthful, uncompromising reporting.
    • Media should include a message of hope and truth.
  6. Arts and Entertainment

    • Influential in shaping culture, particularly among youth.
    • Includes music, film, television, and cooking.
    • Often promotes negative values but has potential for positive influence.
    • Christians should enter this field with excellence to impact culture positively.
  7. Business

    • Wealth creation is a God-given gift; free enterprise vital to nation.
    • Business prone to greed and corruption but can be redeemed.
    • Christians called to manage ethically and use wealth for Kingdom purposes.
    • Aim: Prosperity with a purpose of advancing God's Kingdom.
