Tech Challenge 2024-2025 Season Game: Into the Deep

Overview

  • Presented by RTX.
  • Teams consist of:
    • Up to two driver operators, a human player, a computer, a coach, and a robot.
  • Matches include:
    • Four randomly selected teams, two per alliance.
    • Each alliance may have one human player.
    • Opponents in one match may be partners in another.

Robot Specifications

  • Must be built from materials specified in the competition manual.
  • Must fit within an 18-inch sizing cube initially.
  • Can expand after match starts but must not exceed a 20x42 inch rectangle horizontally.

Game Elements

  • Primary Scoring Element: Plastic sample, 1.5” square x 3.5” long.
    • 20 samples per red and blue alliance.
    • 40 yellow alliance neutral samples.
  • Clips:
    • 20 clips per alliance.
    • Human players attach clips to samples to create specimens.

Field Layout

  • 12-foot square playing field with foam tile floor and 1-foot high walls.
  • Submersible Structure:
    • Located at the center.
    • Contains barriers, low/high rungs, low/high chambers.
  • Corners:
    • Low and high baskets in opposite corners.
    • Taped-off net zones below baskets.
    • Taped-off observation zones in other corners.
  • Zones:
    • Ascent zones on both sides of the submersible.
    • Red, blue, and neutral preset sample zones on front/back walls.
  • Navigation Aids:
    • April Tags on field walls.

Match Setup

  • 60 samples randomly arranged in the submersible zone.
  • 20 clips outside each observation zone.
  • 12 samples in preset sample zones.
  • Robots start touching side walls, with either a specimen or sample.

Match Format

  • Autonomous Period:
    • 30 seconds.
    • Robots score using pre-programmed instructions and sensors.
  • Teleoperated Period:
    • 2 minutes.
    • Robots score using driver inputs.

Scoring

  • During Auto/Teleop:
    • Sample in Net Zone: 2 points.
    • Sample in Low Basket: 4 points.
    • Sample in High Basket: 8 points.
  • Specimens:
    • Created by attaching clips to samples.
    • Specimen in Low Chamber: 6 points.
    • Specimen in High Chamber: 10 points.
    • Specimen colors must be alliance-specific.

Endgame

  • Last 30 seconds of teleop.
  • Protected access to ascent zones.
  • Scoring:
    • Contact with Low Rung: 3 points.
    • Low-level Ascent: 15 points.
    • High-level Ascent: 30 points.
  • End of Match:
    • Robot in Observation Zone: 3 points.

Rules & Regulations

  • Foul points added for rule violations.
  • Major Rules:
    • No entering observation zone with human player present.
    • No launching scoring elements.
    • No interference in ascent zones during endgame.
