Swimwear Design in Procreate

So, you want to design clothes, but you don't know exactly where to start from. In this video, I'm going to be teaching you how to design clothes using Procreate, even though you're not a creative. This is the easy method, and I've used this techniques to create different type of designs. So, let's get into [Music] it. So, when it comes to designing, the first thing you need to do is find inspiration. And you can find inspiration anywhere. You can find inspiration on Pinterest. I particularly love Pinterest because they are one of the most accessible ways you can find inspiration. Like you don't even have to leave your house to find inspiration. And for this easy method, what we are going to be doing is to find pictures of the clothing like the type of clothing that we want. Exactly. So for this particular video, I'm going to be working on a swimwear collection. And the first thing I'm going to do is to find pictures of swimwear that I really like. So I'm just going to come here and search swimwear. So the idea that I have today is um when it comes to like the fabric, the idea that I have is lava. I want to include lava and flowers. So I'm going to do that as well. Like search for um lava. Okay. So I really like this picture. I'm going to save it. I love the colors. I already went ahead to download majority of the ones that I would like to use in this video. So, we're just going to jump right into it. So, note that we're not going to be copying this word for word, but instead we're going to be recreating in our own way, adding our own twist to it. Especially when you're out of creative juice or you just feel like you're burnt out, you're not that creative at the moment, this is going to come to your aid. So, the app we're going to be using to draw our design is called Procreate. Procreate is an app for drawing and doing other cool stuff. I promise you it is worth every penny. It is not free, but it is a one-time payment. Like you just buy it once and it is yours to keep forever. So this is what Procreate looks like when you open it at first. And you're going to click on the add button here. So what this does is going to show you different sizes. I'm going to be using the 4,000x 4,000 size. And this is what that looks like. That's basically square. So, I'm just going to bring in the body figure that I have. And here's the thing, you don't have to use a body figure when you're drawing your designs, but I personally like to do that because it just makes everything looks put together. So, now that I've brought in my body figure, I'm going to reduce the opacity by clicking on this end here and reducing the opacity to about 30 35 or so because I want whatever I'm drawing on it to be more visible. If you want to get something like this, I'll be leaving the link in the description box so you can check that out. So the next thing you want to do is to make sure that you have symmetry on. So you're going to come here to your tool box here and it's going to bring this box out and you're going to click on drawing guide. Then you click on editing drawing guide and then you click on symmetry. So when you click on symmetry, you have to make sure that this tiny um line in the middle align with your model like the midpoint of your model. So I'm just going to align that. I want to really get the midpoint. So once you are sure that it is in the midpoint, what this does is that whatever you draw on one side, let me draw, let me draw on side. Whatever you draw on this side is going to show on this side, it's going to mirror on the other side. So that would really help you as a beginner to draw like when you draw one side like you're done. So the brush I'm going to be using to draw is called the outline brush. I'll be leaving that in the description box for you if you want it. It is free. So, I'm going to bring in the swimwear pictures that I've downloaded. So, I'm just going to bring them in. I want this. And I'm just going to I'm just going to try to fit it on the body that I have. I think this is close. I'm not entirely sure, but you just do that. And then you reduce the opacity of that. And you can see that it does not actually match, but I'll just try to make it match. I'm taking off the body figure away because the next thing I want to do, I want to focus on only the silhouette of my design or the drawing. So, I'm going to turn on drawing assist and just trace out the swimwear design that I like. So now I'm going to take off the swimsuits. And what we have is just the outline. And I'm going to bring back my body figure that I have here. So what I'm going to do now is to resize this to fit the body that I am drawing on. So I resize this part. And for the bottom part, I am going to click on the transform here. So I can select and move only this part. So I'm just going to make it bigger so it can fit the body. And I think this fits the body. So now I'm going to reduce the opacity again. And this time around I'm going to be making sure that I'm drawing the swimwear to match the croak, the body figure that I have there while integrating my new design detail. So, the design detail that I really want to include in this, I'm going to click on reference. The design detail that I want to include in this is this twisted knots kind of vibe. Like, I like the twisting. So, what I'm going to do is have my drawing assist on and I'm going to mold the body. And I want this to cover the entire bust of my croak. So, I'm going to adjust that and clean off the parts that are not perfect. Okay. So, now this fits the body perfectly. But the new thing that I want to add to this design is the twisted knot. So, there are two ways you can get this done. Either you manually bring in this picture and trace it out or you use a brush set. So I have a brush set that actually has this type of um detail like this twisting detail. So that is what I'm going to be using. So this is the brush set that I'm using for this part. I am not going to be using my drawing assist because this is a twisted um effect. And if I am mirroring it, it is not going to look perfect. It's going to look odd. So I'm just going to do it in one swipe. I'm going to try to do it in one go. Okay, that's not bad. So now I'm just going to erase the excess that I don't want and come back here to erase the top parts because we want the um twisting to be on the top parts. So now that I'm done tracing out, I no longer need the initial stretch that I made. So I'm just going to take that out. So this is going to be our first design. So I'm going to go ahead to do more designs like this and then we can come back to putting in the fabric. I wanted one of the loops to have beach skirt on it. So, I came to Pinterest to find the type of beach skirt that I think I want on the design. Okay, I like this one. I'm going to make this big enough. And I'm going to trace just like we've been doing before. But because this is asymmetrical, so I'm not going to be using symmetry. I'm just loosely trying to follow the silhouette as much as possible. And I'm going to bring it in here. make it bigger so it fits the body that we are doing. I think I want the um panties or should I say the bikini pan to show like even after you wear the cover up on it. So I'm going to I'm going to be clicking on distort so I can make this longer and a bit wider. Okay. So, I'm going to change the panties. I think I want it to be a rope one to match this. So, I'm going to reduce the opacity of this and draw over what I've brought in before, making sure it matches the body. to add my own twist to it. I think I'm going to make this shorter so it just covers like here. Sorry if my camera is shaking a lot. I'm so sorry. I'm still trying to find the perfect [Music] um arrangement. So, I'm going to take off the layer to see what we have. I've gone ahead to delete any parts that I'm not using. So, all I have right here are my designs that I've made. I've made three in total. So, now that we've gotten all our designs, the next thing is to think about the fabric that we want to use. I have this idea to create this lava kind of fabric with flowers in it. So, I went ahead already to find pictures and colors that I would want to use. So, I'm just going to pick out the colors that I see from here. And I'm doing this on a different layer, not on the layer that has the picture. So even if I'm drawing over it, it does not affect it. Duplicate that and just make it like very big. So, now that I've filled up everywhere, I'm going to go to my um effect list and I'm going to click on liquify. So, what this does is that it just moves the colors around like it gives you this new effect, this um liquid effect. So, that is what we're going for. Now, I'm going to increase the pressure and the size just so I can move around the colors into one another more. You're going to go with 12 so the colors can start mixing into each other. You can do this for as long as you like until you find the perfect pattern that you like. And I think what I have here so far is not bad at all. I think I like it. So, I'm just going to end it right here. And all I just have to do is click on this. And here we have we already have our fabric. So what I'm going to do is I'm going to copy it and take it off that layer. And now I'm going to go back to all the designs that we've made. I'm going to create a new layer underneath the swimwear outline. And I'm just going to paint it in just one color. Let's have drawing assist on so we can be fast with what we're doing. um make sure that there are no broken lines. So immediately I close that up. You see that when we fill it, everything is like filled inside. So you're just going to keep that in mind. I'm going to merge everything together. Create a new layer and click on paste. I can now rescale my fabric to whatever I want. But make sure when you're rescaling this option here is on by cubic because if it is on nearest neighbor, you're going to lose a lot of quality and then everything is going to look a bit um jagged. I want this part to have a bit of yellow and the red. Honestly, I want it to have everything. So, I'm going to make the scale even much smaller so we can fit in all the colors that I want. M I think this is fine. So what I'm going to click on is clipping mask. And as you can see, everything is clipped on onto only the parts that I painted previously. So that just makes our job faster. And now I'm going to create a new layer. I think I'm going to have the ropes in a totally different color. So let's try yellow first to let's see what that yellow would look like. Okay. So, the yellow looks good, I think. For now, I'm just going to leave it at that. So, we're going to move on to the next design. So, before moving to the next design, I'm going to group all these layers into one group so that we can easily bring them back and put them back together. To group the layers, all you need to do is to swipe right like this and then you click on group. So now whenever you click on C and on C everything goes together as a group. So this is off. Now to our next design. So that is that for that design. But before we finish off, there is this golden rod here. You can just pick um a brownish gold color to fill that in. Um pick an even lighter color to just highlight the midpoint of it. And you can even go lighter again just to give it that shiny look. See how simple that was? So now we're done with that design. We're going to make sure we merge everything together as well. we group everything together instead. So now they are grouped and then we are moving on to the last design. For the third design, I already went ahead to do the fabric since we all know what the process is and the only thing that is different is the cover that we have on this one. So you're going to come to the layer of the cover and create a new layer underneath. We're going to paint everything like we're going to fill it up in one solid color. So once I've filled it in, I am going to reduce the opacity and then duplicate to show that there's difference in the transparency. We're going to bring in this fabric and copy and we're going to paste it. And we're going to paste it on top of this layer and reduce the size just like the way we've been doing before. So, we're going to reduce the size. I know that it is not as big as the skirt. So, we're just going to duplicate and make it like as big as the skirt. So, you're going to notice that this part is going to look odd like the joining part. But do not fret because we can do the same thing that we did when we're creating the fabric. So, what you just need to do is to merge these two together. And we're going to go back to your liquify like you've done before. We're going to reduce the size because we're dealing with a much smaller space. So, you're going to start swirling swirl right or left and you cannot really tell that there's been like a a join in there. So, that is basically how you do that. So, before you do anything, I want you to duplicate this layer, this um fabric layer because we might need this exact print later on when we doing the double layer. So once you've done that, because this fabric is transparent and is mesh, so you're going to click on clipping mask and what you're going to notice is that you've lost the vibrant color and that is totally fine. At the end of the day, this is mesh. So if you want to get that exact like color, vibrancy and all that. What you need to do is to come back to this part here and then you have your saturation and then your darkness just to bring back the, you know, the intensity in the color. You need all those things back. So if you if you bring this back to if you bring this back to 100, you're going to see that the colors are not the same anymore. But when you reduce it, the colors still look like um they are still like similar. So you're going to do the same thing for that layer that we have. So you're going to come back to the layer that you duplicated before, the fabric layer. So this one you're going to bring it on top of the double part, the flipped part. And then you're going to have it like this and flipping mask. You can see that they are very similar. Even though we actually edited this fabric part, you can see how similar they look. So lastly, before I finish off everything, I'm going to come back here and bring back the skin tone. You can see everything in their true tone. So let me just duplicate and put everything in their places and show you what we have. So these are all the three designs that we worked on. These are very simple. So the last thing you need to do is to label. You can choose to label or not to label. So if I want to send this to my manufacturer, I'll probably label it so they can know exactly what design is for what part and all that. So that is it guys. I hope this video was helpful. I'm going to be leaving the brushes that I used to create this in my description. And if you want this fabric pattern as well, I can leave that um I can leave a link for you to download it as well. If you like this video, give it a thumbs up. Share to your friends. Share the word. We're going to be having more tutorials like this. Um, see me in the next one. [Music]
