TikTok Growth Tips

have you noticed how some Tik Tok creators can regularly go viral and then others can make the exact same kind of video and get stuck in 200 view Gil it's so frustrating especially if you're the one that's in that position you might even feel like the algorithm hates you or like it's just randomly picking people to go viral because nothing that you try seems to be working and if you can relate to that you need to watch this video because I'm going to let you in on a little secret if you are not getting views and growing on Tik Tok it's because you are actually doing something wrong now that doesn't mean your content sucks I've seen some incredible videos on Tik Tok that just don't get the views it just means that you're making one of a few really common mistakes that's preventing your videos from reaching a broader audience so your amazing content can be seen so today I'm breaking down the biggest reasons that Tik Tok accounts fail and what you can do so you can be one of the lucky few who gets all the views and gets the followers and becomes a full-time content creator making a living from Tik Tok one of the biggest reasons that Tik Tok accounts fail is that you don't understand how the algorithm works a lot of people think that the algorithm hates them and that's why they can't get any views but it's the things that they are doing that's causing the problem what really happens when you create a video is the algorithm Works to match your video with the Right audience so you can get as many views as possible the problem is that when you first start uploading videos on Tik Tok the algorithm doesn't know who to show them to so even if you're making really great content that's super valuable to your audience you might not get any views at first until the algorithm figures out who your audience is so you have to actively train the algorithm and the faster you can do this the faster the algorithm will find your target audience and your account will start to blow up but you can't train the algor them if you don't understand how it works so let me use my iPad and just break it all down for you and I'm going to use the example of an online fitness coach who wants to grow an audience on Tik to so they can get more clients and let's say this coach specifically works with business owners who don't have a lot of time to get in shape so in this example our coach is going to make three videos and the first one will be about workouts for people that don't have time for the gym the second one will be about diets for people who don't have a lot of time to cook and the third one is going to be about how to stay on track when you're traveling because a lot of business owners travel and maybe that throws them off and when he starts his account this coach is going to have all these potential people that his videos can be shown to but Tik tok's only going to show his video to about 200 people at first as like a sample audience to see if the video is any good and what the algorithm is really searching for is people that watch the video the entire way through so they can get data about who they should be showing the videos to and so when he posts this first video about workouts it's going to be shown to this person and this person and this person and maybe none of them are interested in the video and if that happens the video even though it might be really good is just going to stop at 200 views and that's okay because Tik Tok got some information here it figured out who not to show videos to so now when our coach posts his second video Tik Tok is going to try and find different types of people to see if they can find the ones that are interested and so maybe that first one not so much they do another one isn't interested but then they find this person and that person loves the video and they watch it all the way through and this is great because now Tik Tok has some data and they're able to make more strategic guesses about who to show the video to cuz they're looking for the people people that are more like this one and so the rest of the sample audience is going to be shown to some other people and they're going to find maybe this person liked the video and this person watched the video too and now Tik Tok has this segment of people that they can compare to figure out what are they interested in and what kind of videos are they watching and it can start to put together the pieces of the puzzle about who the Right audience is for you the other thing algorithm's going to do is it's going to start showing this segment of people your other videos inside of the for you feed so these people they're going to see that original video and when you post that third video they're going to be shown that one too and this is one of the reasons that it's important that you don't delete your videos because it provides data and when Tik Tok figures out who the audiences it will reshow them that video and then maybe it starts to do well the final piece of this is that when this coach posts that third video not only is it being shown to that first segment but Tik Tok is now going to be even more strategic and it's going to go try and find other segments of people and so it might look here and that didn't work but maybe it goes over here oh and that worked and they find this person and this person and now you have another segment of people because of that third video and they're able to start growing your audience and making your videos more effective and it's important to keep in mind that even after the algorithm figures out who your target audience is you still have to make great videos some ideas are going to work better than others so you're going to have videos that go viral and you're going to have videos that get so so views and that's okay it's perfectly normal for example our coach's third video about how to stick to a diet while you're traveling might be super valuable but it may not apply to everyone in his audience and since it doesn't have as broad of an appeal it might not get as many views but most accounts fail because they confuse the algorithm and it never figures out who that target audience is and the most common reason that happens is because they post about too many topics when you post about a bunch of topics the algorithm can't figure out who to show your content to take the example of our fitness coach if he was also interested in photography and started posting videos about photography in addition to videos about losing weight the algorithm is going to be confused and what's going to happen is it's going to take this photography video and it's going to show it to this new audience that it found that was right for your original content and they're not going to be interested and now the algorithm is going well wait I guess that audience isn't very good and now I need to start over and figure out who to show the content to and so now the next time that coach posts a fitness video it gets shown to a totally random audience again and it gets stuck at 200 views and that's not the algorithm's fault that's that coach's fault and I get it I'm a multi-passionate entrepreneur I'm interested in a lot of things I'm interested in social media and online business but I'm also interested in football and baseball and I like drinking collecting bourbon but if I post about all of those things I'm not going to get any results and so you have to get focused if you want to be successful in Tik Tok if you want to make it a full-time thing you have to treat it like a business and so the first thing you got to do is figure out what are the topics that I'm super passionate about and I could talk about every single day in a video and then you need to take all of those possible topics or niches that you could possibly create content about and ask yourself which one of these can I make money with because the reality is do we want to do this do we want to show up every single day and create this this content and grow this audience if we're not going to be able to make money from it and so the way you do that is you go look at creators in those niches look at the links in their profile figure out how it is that they're making money and when you find that topic that you love and you're passionate about and you see that people are making money in that space then that needs to be the one topic for your account but what if you already are posting about one topic and you're still not getting views that's a sign that you're not marketing your content well and what I mean by that is you need to learn how to package your content better because it might be really valuable but people aren't watching it because if people were watching your videos and you were getting the high watch time you would be getting the views as well that's the other function of the sample audience it's trying to figure out how your video compares to similar videos on that topic and the video that gets the most watch time is going to get the most views and this is repeated over and over and over again at different checkpoints so they're analyzing the performance of your video at 200 views but then they're analyzing it again at the 5 to 600 range at 1,000 views 5,000 10,000 100,000 a million and that's the crazy thing about the Tik Tok algorithm how you get all of these views and then they suddenly stop that's perfectly normal but if your views are stopping at a number that you're not happy with and you want more of them then we really need to work on how you package your content and our goal is that we want to make sure that more people stop scrolling on the for you feed to watch our videos and that when they do watch them they watch them longer and actually finish the videos so here are some simple retention strategies that are going to help you increase your watch time and your views first you need to be spending 10 minutes every single day doing content research so you can come up with better ideas study other creators in your space and figure out what are the videos that are performing best for them find those recent successful videos that are relevant to your audience and go make your version of those videos next every single one of your videos should have a text based title titles are important for two reasons the first one is that they're going to grab people's attention and get them to stop scrolling which means you're going to have more people watching your video second our brains are able to process the things that we read faster than the things that we hear so when you use a title you're making it easier for a person to make a split second decision that they want to stay and watch your video instead of scrolling past it which means more people are going to stay and watch and speaking of getting people's attention right away you need to focus on the first 5 Seconds of your video and I mean put more time into what you say in the first 5 Seconds than you do the rest of the video and the reason for this is because we need to hook people's attention we need to give them a reason to stay but also eventually when you get monetized and you want to get a share of AD revenue from your videos that are over a minute long your views will only qualify if somebody watches more than 5 Seconds so you have to win at the beginning of the video If you want to get paid and if you want to get views and a great way to get people to keep watching especially in the beginning is to use captions and you don't need the big fancy edited captions just use the auto captions feature it's free it takes seconds and when people have the ability to read what's on the screen instead of having to listen to your video it means they're more likely to watch I heard some wild stat lately like 97% of people watch videos with captions on and that is not the right statistic but it's a big number and it also allows people to watch your videos while they're standing in line at the grocery store or while they're watching TV that they're not interested in with their spouse or whatever not saying I do that but I do next you need to be more concise deliver your points quickly don't repeat yourself move on to the next thing you don't want to lose people's attention and a great way to help with this is to record your videos one line at a time I do that in these videos a lot I literally say the next thing that I want to say and then I stop recording and I figure out what the next part is and then I say that and this makes your videos easier to edit and it creates something called the jump cut effect which is where you're able to remove all of the pauses and the silences in the video so that it almost seems like you're jumping from Line to Line and it engages viewers and improves retention now if you do all of these things if you train the algorithm if you post about one topic and if you approve the retention of your videos you are going to see a massive spike in the number of views and the follower growth on your account unless you make this next mistake and that's not posting consistently now I get it be consistent as a Creator is some of the most boring advice out there all the gurus talk about it but it is so important Tik Tok itself has told us that consistency is a major factor in the amount of views that you get Tik Tok wants you to be posting every single day and the longer that you post without missing a day the more consistent you are the more weight they're going to give you as a Creator and what that means is that you are going to get more views they're going to give you more views for being consistent you're going to have a bigger sample audience every time you post those videos and they're going to push you and so if you're not being consistent right now like do you really want to do this are you truly committed and I'm asking you this question I really want you to think about it because I know there's been times in in my Creator Journey that I have not been committed and I'll use this YouTube channel as a perfect example I got a couple hundred Subs my first like 20 something videos because I didn't even manage to post like every other week and then I gave up I didn't post for like 9 months until eventually I was like I've had it I want to do this I really do and I committed to it and I posted every single week since then and now I've been able to go from like 200 to over 20,000 subscribers in about 6 months posting every single week because I actually started treating it like a business I actually started showing up every single week and you have to do that on Tik Tok too you have to treat it like a business if you want to be a full-time content creator then you have to act like it the best part of being a content creator and Entrepreneurship in general is all of the freedom that you get in your life but the hardest part of Entrepreneurship in being a content creator is that you have so much Freedom you don't have a schedule like a regular job you don't have deadlines you have to create that for yourself you have to develop that habit and that discipline and it's hard when you don't even have to put pants on in the morning like how would you know if I was wearing pants right now so the most important thing that you can do is focus on that consistency to get more views and to get the Reps in and practice so you can make better videos that deserve the views and if you're watching this video and you're watching my channel and you're doing everything you can to learn how to be successful on Tik Tok those are all great things but it also means that you're likely making this other mistake that kills accounts and that's being too focused on tactics and what I mean by that is there are all of these little things that you are worrying about and feel like you need to figure out and understand in order to be successful things like your posting time and what hashtags you use and you feel like if you just knew exactly how to optimize those things that you would get more views but all it does is it prevents you from taking action and from posting and focusing on the really important stuff like understanding your ideal target audience and the type of content that they want to see and coming with better ideas and doing the content research and then because you're worried about these things when you post a video and it doesn't get views you think that it's because you posted at the wrong time or used the wrong hashtag instead of thinking about how to make a better idea or how to grab their attention in the first 5 seconds or keep their attention through the whole entire video and so I'm going to break all of this down for you right now that way you don't have to worry about it and you can focus on the important stuff and create videos and then when this video is over if you want all the details then you can go watch this video where I break it all down and show you exactly what you need to do to grow your account as fast as possible but here's the basics of what you need to know number one posting times don't matter as long as you're posting at regular times when people are awake and looking at their phone then you're going to do fine and get views in fact the only reason that I would even choose a posting time is to use as an accountability tool to help you be consistent pick a time that you're going to post every single day and then stick to it next posting and ghosting does nothing there are people out there that are telling you that you need to post a video and then get off of the app because Tik Tok is going to give all of these views to that video and people are going to engage with it so you get notification so you will come back to the app and that is the most absurd illogical thing that I've ever heard on this platform Tik Tok is not going to use your video to get you one person back onto the app they don't care about that what they care about is whether your video is good enough and gets people to watch long enough that lots of people stay on the app because of the video they're concerned about the thousands or millions of people that could see your video and the better it is at keeping them on the platform the more views your video is going to get so post your video and then do whatever the heck you want to do next your hashtags have a minimal impact on your views I do think that when you're first starting out that you should use four to six hashtags that are relevant to the topic that you discuss and what the video is about to kind of help to the algorithm what your video is about and who they should show it to because that can maybe help you get categorized faster but at the end of the day the algorithm's mostly looking at the people that watch your video and the types of videos that they watch and what other people watch similar videos to them so that way they can find who to show your videos to and finally you don't have to post three to five times per day in order to grow on Tik Tok if you post more videos per day at the same level of quality then yes you are going to grow faster but you can grow plenty just posting once per day Tik Tok recommends that you post one to four times per day and it's their platform and their algorithm so I would trust them instead of some random Creator telling you you need to post five times per day the big thing that I want you to take away from this is that you are not going to be successful by trying to gain the system in order to get more views focus on coming up with better ideas giving more value to your audience than anybody else does and getting better at the skill of making videos and improving your retention that's the stuff that matters and the only way you're going to get better at those things is through practice which means publishing videos so don't be a perfectionist people wear the label of perfectionist like it's some Mark of Pride but the reality is that it kills the growth of your account and I get it I have perfectionist Tendencies I know that I could have better lighting and a better set and I see the videos that other people are creating and I'm like man that's the level I want to get on but I don't let that prevent me from hitting publish on a video and unfortunately I think a lot of people do don't worry about your equipment or your set start with what you have you don't need a fancy camera I do all of my videos on an iPhone when you see me with this phone in these videos this is my old iPhone that holds a charge for like 5 minutes I just put my iPhone on a cheap little tripod and I hit record and I make the video if you want to improve your production value then just do something like this get like a little $10 mic and improve your audio but beyond that your content is more important than how your video looks even though I want to make this all look really nice and have the cool backlighting and all of the things I know that showing up and Publishing my videos and making them valuable to y'all is more important than how my background looks and this is true of the actual content you create too you need to just show up and create the best video that you can today make the best script that you can share the most valuable content that you currently have don't overthink your ideas just hit record and publish them the biggest thing that I struggle with as a Creator is that when I come up with an idea that I'm really excited about and I think is going to get a lot of views that I want to put in all this extra time doing the research and making the video perfect so it can perform the best it could possibly perform and so then I think to myself well maybe I shouldn't create this video right now I'll create it later when I have more time but you can't do that create the best version of the video that you can create today even if it's not perfect one of the great things about Tik Tok compared to YouTube is that you're posting every single day so if you post a video and it doesn't get as many views as you want it to who cares you get to post again tomorrow and you can try the same idea again in a different way and make a better version next week so just hit publish and try to get a little bit better every single time now the one thing that I am a perfectionist about is how you set up and start your new account on Tik Tok and I'm talking everything from the settings that you need to use in order to train the algorithm to figure out who your target audience is faster to how to optimize your profile so that way you get more followers so I want you to watch this video next and learn exactly how to grow on Tik Tok it's basically a free 30-minute course that goes step by step through everything that you need to do to get results fast
