Notion Linking and Page Creation

Oct 1, 2025,

Overview

This lesson covers how to create links and subpages within your Notion workspace, focusing on both block links and inline links, as well as multiple methods for adding new pages and subpages.

Linking to Pages in Notion

  • Notion allows for infinite nested pages, which can be accessed via the sidebar or through links.
  • The "Link to Page" block can be created using slash command (/link) or by pasting a Notion page URL and selecting "Link to page."
  • Adding "Link to Page" blocks also adds the linked page to your sidebar for easy access.
  • Inline links can be created by pasting a URL and selecting "Mention page" or by using double brackets [[page name]].
  • Inline links do not appear in the sidebar and are embedded within existing text or blocks.
  • You can link to pages using the @ or + symbols, which work similarly to double brackets.
  • Hyperlinks to external web pages can be made by pasting a URL and selecting options like bookmark, embed, or using text highlighting.

Creating Pages and Subpages

  • New top-level pages can be created using the sidebar’s + button or the "New Page" button at the bottom of the window.
  • Subpages can be created by clicking the + next to any existing page or by using the slash command (/page) within the content area.
  • The + syntax allows creation of inline subpages on a line of text, which still appear in the sidebar if they live on the current page.
  • To create a subpage in another location, use +, type the page name, and select the target parent page.
  • Inline subpages created within text cannot be transformed into other block types, unlike page blocks.

Backlinks and Page Navigation

  • Linking to a page creates a backlink, allowing you to see where a page is referenced from.
  • Backlinks can be managed and displayed in different ways via the three-dot menu and "Customize Page."
