good morning everyone those were held so far just gonna wait a few minutes for a few more students to come in and then we're gonna get started okay okay see we have some more people coming in we just stood today's session is pretty short put it to the point so just gonna give everybody a few more minutes let's get a few more people in there watching and so we could have more participation so we could get started all right so welcome everybody and everybody hear me to give me a thumbs up or you can say yes in the chat so that I could know that we are working and ready to start all right I got a bond so hopefully everybody could hear me good morning everyone my name is mrs. Turner beam and this morning I am going to be your instructor and we are going to go over industries we're still an arthropod service for industries and today we're going to look at the main focus of industries are different types of industries okay so right now we're gonna do a quick review about what we covered yesterday okay so I want I would love full participation from everybody um I'm gonna answer questions and you're going to be able to put your response in the chat and from there we will go through and then we will go over the answers at the end okay is everybody ready I hope so let's get a move on good so we're viewing now and yesterday we went over the factors that are necessary in operating an industry okay we had about we had two sections of factors we had physical factors and then we had human and economic factors okay so now we're going to look and see this is only 7 of what we did yesterday and it's a mix of both human as well as physical and economic ok so I'm going to read the question and I'm going to give you a chance to respond to the question in the chat ok just reminder I'm the only person myself and the parents are the only persons who are able to see your responses okay so feel free to answer and there's no wrong answer ok I mean there is but we're not judging okay it's we're all learning and this is a new platform so let's make the best out of it ok so let's get started number one river valleys and flat areas were essential to industries due to lack of real is cars or lorries which of the seven answers from in our world box above would apply to this answer we have capital labor markets transport power supplies raw materials and natural roots so the question is river valleys and flat areas were essential to industries due to lack of railways cars and lorries okay cash out I see your response Parise I'm seeing your sponsors good let's think back on I see okay sir I see you let's think back on what we reviewed yesterday okay so our river valleys in our flat areas were Sanjit our industries remember we didn't they didn't have a lot of cars they didn't have a lot of trends they didn't have a lot of modes of transportation right so they had to use what was given by the environment correct before all of these things came into place so this will take a factor on the answer or the response for number one okay so I'm seeing my responses and that is not exactly it's this it's another act it's another response so let's see we could get it really quickly let's think if we could think about how luck of having railways cars and lorries affected our industry locations so they had to locate in us in specific areas that catered to them so I could see we have about 15 attendees and I'm only seeing a few people I would love everybody could get involved I'm seeing four responses so that means they either not answered yet so let's all give it a try if you weren't here yesterday then that's ok you are able to still participate there's a still learning experience and you will all learn from each other all right so let's go on to number two costs increase when items moved are bulky fragile heavy or perishable which of these responses would be perfect for cost increase when items moved are bulky fragile heavy or perishable all of these responses are used once all responses can be sent to the chart no not exactly a shot anyone else wants to give it a go for number two not exactly Samuel not exactly okay cash shot I see your second response not exactly okay Sarah okay I see some answers coming in very good I love that you're participating excellent so let's go to number three this includes both quality and quantity excuse me this includes quality and quantity which of our responses touch based on quality and quantity okay I'm seeing very good Michelle very good all right I'm seeing some responses not exactly Sammy was not exactly all right some responses are coming in okay let's move on so number four this is needed to work the machines in the factory okay this is needed to work the machines in the factory good shot I see you sir I see you very good very good all right I'm seeing some responses very good number five the size and location of this have become more important than the source of raw materials the size and the location of this has become more important than the source of our raw materials remember yesterday we spoke about certain areas and their demographics and what who the people they care to okay that has a specific word okay and that word is the answer for number five okay so most industries would locate in these areas simply because they see more profit there that it would then they won't see if they were to locate next their raw materials so some responses for number five okay good I'm seeing some answers coming in very good number six early industries depended on wealthy entrepreneurs early industries depended on wealthy entrepreneurs now industries today they still dependent entrepreneurs but they are now more from more ways of them receiving this overhead and so you could go to a bank you could have an investment things like that so what would be what would be the answer for number six where early industries depended on wealthy entrepreneurs very good very good good all right I'm number seven the bulkier and heavier these are to transport the narrower the factory should be located to this the bulkier and heavier these are to transport the narrower the factory should be located to this good I'm seeing some arts and responses coming in very good good okay I'm seeing a response and question and I'm so very good I see you very good good so now we're going to go over these really quickly and we're going to get the answers remember if you weren't here yesterday don't feel bad if you got the wrong answer this is all a learning experience and so we are able to correct our mistakes um all right so now okay I see I see that you're considering what some answers may be so let's go so number one river valleys and flat areas were essential to industries due to lack of railways cause or lorries okay so the response and the answer to this is natural routes remember the land itself had the river where's had all these areas well the industry will be able to take advantage of the natural moving with from water so that it would decrease their cost okay because remember they were weren't any cars when it wasn't any way to transport outside of what the environment gave you okay so the natural routes would have been the best and easiest way for industries to make profit okay when it came to moving them down fresh product okay number two costs increase when items moved are bulky fragile heavy or perishable the costs increase when items moved are bulky fragile heavy or perishable and that would be transport remember if you when our industries to locate themselves they have to find a market and they cannot be too far from their market because when it comes to carrying their bulky items they're fragile all these things is going to become more expensive for them okay so transport is one one way they looked at it in terms of costs okay so this number three this includes both quality and quantity the answer is labor are good so remember our industries would locate for labor based on quality the quality of labor that they would get specialized skills so they would be if they would say hey I'm gonna move to this area because it caters to my industry and I don't know the trained people as much and they already know what to do on the other hand you up industries that looking for quantity where they could get a large amount of people working but little or for small widgets okay so that would increase their productivity number four this is needed to work the machines in the factory when I access question most of my responses were correct and that would be our power supplies you cannot operate without power and remember in our early industries power was fueled by coal okay you had to be located understand steam so you had to be located very close to these coal factories in order for you to have electricity to run your factory okay now today that is not the case we don't have to be located at very close to ppl to work or to have in the streets okay number five the size and location of this has become more important than the source of raw materials our response to that would be our markets remember our market is where we sell our finish good ok so if you have a market for let's say pepper sauce you would locate well you would find your markets so that you where you place your products you know that you could get it saw the most ok so a good place to put pepper sauce would be let's say our walkie there's a market out there you have persons who indulge in crank arms any of any contest con solid and they would want to put more probably want to put more pepper inside of their food ok so that's just an example of how you have to factor in your markets ok so some people look locate themselves in their market instead and without factoring in their raw materials because there's more profit ok number six early industry is dependent on wealthy entrepreneurs everybody got this one and that would have been capital okay so we know kappa we need capital to start these industries right and so you would find wealthy entrepreneurs today you have banks all these are the facets of of means of getting more money ok number seven the bulkier and heavier B's are to transport the narrower the factory should be located to this ok and last but not least we have our raw materials remember raw materials are sometimes much heavier than the materials in their finished products ok so for example I gave the example of potatoes yesterday potatoes natural in a natural state are extremely heavy okay if you're now going into a business where you're making mashed potatoes you would want to locate next to your potato farm or wherever you're getting your potatoes from to make the costs of you transporting your raw material much cheaper that way you could benefit when you sell your finished product okay so very good thank you so much to everybody who participated so let's get started on today's lesson so today we're going to be looking at our objectives we're going to defy the term industry okay we're going to be able to differentiate between primary secondary and tertiary industries and then we're going to evaluate the importance and role of ordinary industries today okay good now let's get started so a brief overview of the entire topic every country including the Bahamas produces some form of good or service okay every country so for example if we look at Trinidad they produce oil and steel and gray Onodera produce rice and gold you make a bauxite and beverages that can anybody tell me really quickly what is bauxite used for when you extract bauxite what does it use to make it can anybody really quickly inside the child you could just shoot that out to me I would really appreciate it and then is there anyone who could stay what we may produce here in the Bahamas what is one from a good or service that we produce here in the Bahamas okay salt very good now salt is natural we don't really have to produce that in its natural state we do produce salt and we do export we do exports also very good we have and salt is prevalent in anyone who's prevalent salt is Souls is mainly done in in Agua good I'm saying petroleum bauxite is not used as a form of petroleum very okay good thank you so much miss dams thank you so much cash our dragon Island also deals with salts very good very good kappa bauxite is used in assisting to make aluminum okay so the foil to use everyday bauxite is a natural products that's used to assist in making that okay good so I have a quick video on industries it's pretty fun something else you probably never saw before so let's get to it and just let me make please just tell me if you could hear it when it starts from the somewhat silly to the downright strange today we're going wild with crazy candies first a new way to be nerdy Willy Wonka makes a playful nerds rope that's measured in miles [Music] hi everybody welcome to unwrapped I'm Marc summers and today we're exploring candies so unique it can only be called wild and crazy now here's the question are you the type that likes to play with your candy perhaps you would like to wear it well these are nerds ropes and they can be a necklace perhaps a bracelet or they can be stretched out like that now how do they think of these things and how do they make them let's watch call it colorful and crazy twisty or tasty nerds rope stretch the imagination network is quite quite something it's a gummy Center covered in rainbow nerds it's like a big delicious strand of DNA nerds ropes are fairly new but regular nerds have been around since 1983 the most popular flavors are great and strawberry and if you like them tart they also makes our nerds and flavors like lightning lemon and amped Apple usually one box of nerds has two flavors but the Nerds rope is like a cluster of five colors and flavors grape orange lemon watermelon and strawberry it's it's quite an experience willy wonka invited us into his private factory in Itasca Illinois where nerds ropes roll off the conveyor in not feet but the violin we were to line up all of our nerves rub so we make it one day and then we'd have over 60 miles of nerds rope believe it or not it's thought this sugary strain came about by accident the word run the factories that one day there was a load of nerds laying around somebody was experimenting with some gummies that mystery inventor apparently dribbled some of the gummy mixture over a pile of nerds and then he went to lunch and when they came back they discovered this amazing thing and then they said about how to how to create this so that lots of people could enjoy and they were very successful [Music] before you can have an urge rope you have to have nurse nurse are justice iconic amazing candy that have tons of character I mean I think when you see anything made it just it just blows your mind more than a hundred fifty million of these tiny crunchy candies coat the ropes each day the sugar spins and pans like this and slowly grows in the lots of uniquely shaped nerds in Iran and depend later check out these naked nerds this is what they look like before they add color [Music] meantime the gummy Center cooks with gelatin sugar and a special ingredient citric acid for fruity flavor this is not a shower of nerds it's more like a storm countless little candies cover the long sticky red ropes then they cut them and cool them down and within a few minutes a conveyor leads the finish ropes to a container called a you board and ie board allows us to be able to wrap it so it'll maintain a shape III bow colored creation slides into a shiny foil wrapper as for what happens next well that's up to whoever opens it is one of those super super creative canoes I mean it's just like pure imagination I would say it's so the next time your kids want a colorful candy edition to play dress-up how about a nerds row furring or belt for candy bling dirts ropes make a funny fashion statement and an even better edible accessory candy can anybody name any you could send send responses to the chart the name of our candy factory in the Bahamas when we make sweet bohemian treats very good very good very good I'm Bernard oh I see your response very good good so we do have an industry here in the Bahamas just like what we saw in the video now it may not be that large or extensive as to compare to Willy Wonka's factory so we have we have it on a small scale so based on our video what was some of the raw materials that we saw coming in being used to produce the final product in the video so remember our final product what we saw was the Nerds rope so what was some of the raw materials that they mentioned that was used to make the material I mean the product very good very good Samuel good anybody else they mentioned an acid did anybody take note of the acid that they said they used for the fruity flavor when they came to making the gelatin does anybody remember the name of that I said very good Samuel good so when you put all of these things together good very good thank you so much I see you gave up so when you put all these things together that video would have shown us how we have these small these small pieces that they put together to make that one final product and the main product was sugar right then you should go they use some type of materials to make gloss they use citric acid they use gelatin these things to keep the candy together okay and then we saw a lot of the processes that were involved but they had a lot huge machines so the machines did majority of the work with spin the candy with coke candy would make the gelatin do all of these things and we saw how the process the process is fact structure would work when it just continues it goes through a train goes through these machines and even wrapped them she even wrap the candy okay and that as well we now need specialized you need more quality labor instead of quantity labor because you need persons who are going to assist you in making sure that your machines do not go down who are just going to check and make sure that the candy is coming on how it's supposed to and um just for the market to make sure that's acceptable in the market so we saw the entire industry process for nerds in terms of inputs our processes and in our output okay good so now let's get started this is gonna be really quick so stay with me alright so what are industries okay industries is the manufacturing making and selling of goods and services okay so whenever you make something or you have to sell something that is a industry okay so any good or service that you need up falls under the industry sector okay so for example we are the auto industry all right now our industries come in stages okay I'm there many types of industries and we divide them into sectors or classes whichever one you would want to refer to it I suspect so uh for men but we have three men and then we have one more okay so our three men are primary which is not extractive industries they're made out secondary which is on manufacturing industries and then we have tertiary which are a service in the streets okay and last but not least we have quaternary quaternary industries deal with research and development okay so everything they do under the Sun falls under some sort of industry okay good so now let's look at primary industries so primary industries are extractive industries where we take the natural resources okay and turn them into primary products okay so most of these materials that we get from this industry are considered to be raw and then they could be processed or taken into the secondary industry okay so can anybody give me some examples of what primary industries may be can we have some can someone can you shoot some answers into the chart so we can see some examples of primary industries very good my mining I'm seeing mining good fishing fishing very good is there anything else give me think of anything else I have some pictures that assist you farming very good parise very good Samuel oh good excellent so let's go do I have some examples here so our major examples of primary industries include agriculture or farming an example of our culture and farming in the Bahamas is can anybody tell me the answer our big farming a big agricultural area I mean business the name of it really quickly very good Samuel the answer is BAM Z so we know major and the shoes come from major farming is done through BAM Z okay and then we also have the Bahamas agricultural and industrial cooperation I believe the C's for cooperation or also known as PA I see they are located in soldier Road across the road from PT VI so you may sometimes see when you see the popups on the weekends when mommy and daddy or granny may say who I had to go get some fresh food some fresh vegetables so they go out and they go into this open area these are pop ups that's because of PA I see so that's from that comes from our agriculture and farming industry okay next we are fishing we know fishing is a big thing in the Bahamas we eat up snapper or grouper lobster punk enemy of our seasons forward as well we are forestry the Bahamas used to be very big on forestry especially in Grand Bahama in our northern islands okay so when we cut down trees we know that trees are used to the wood the bark is used to create wooden products tables chairs for example okay then we have mining very good so mining is where we would go in and extract in the strapping so for example we don't have it here but diamonds we also mined our sand okay remind our son and the actually export our son okay and son can I give me the name of son it begins with will be referred to with us it begins it's a mineral and we call it it begins with a letter A anybody could shoot me that answer really quick alright Samuel I think I know what you're trying to say and the response to that would be aragonite okay so our son refer to as aragonite as the mineral that we would export next we have salt making we know we have our primary ship salt in an agua and right at Island I did not forget okay so salt making is extremely important to us and we also extract our salt I mean the instructor salt and export it okay and then we have crabbing okay cropping is a Pistons can be considered a primary industry remember we're going into and we have to extract and we sell those products okay so Father's Day is coming soon or we're gonna see a side road soon is probably crap okay well if we're not locked down next we're moving on to our secondary industries so our secondary industries are this is where we take our raw material and we turn it into a finished product through the manufacturing process okay so for example I have paper pulp to change and turn into paper cotton into cloth here in the Bahamas we have some very small-scale secondary industries as well as large scale okay so based on our primary industries I'm going to now use fishing okay so we have some industries and businesses that operate in the primary when they fish and they get they go when they catch large amounts of fish lobster Kong all of these things and then they bring it back to their business and they actually prepare it for you to purchase okay so this is a second this would be this would fall under the secondary industry but ever clean the fish for us there was Brewster Kong they were cut it up so all we have to do now is go and buy it okay so the secondary industry is where we take our raw material and we change it we manufacture it so that we can have a finished product okay so some examples the sector is often divided into light and heavy industries so it's just how just out the name says is what is referred to light industries would be those of light weight and heavy would be those of anyway so tell me getting examples can anybody give me an example of secondary industries any examples of secondary industries that we could think of hmm good I'm saying wow I'm seeing some excellent answers construction construction sites bakeries yes and our bakery is we take flour sugar our water our eggs and we take it and we turn them into something else into a cake or a pastry or twist very good they're making a bear very good excellent answer food processing good so some of our light industries and heavy industries just depends on a you on how you think not how you consider it but car manufacturing would be considered by heavy in the street okay and then we have construction isolated we are both building another heavy industry and we do build boats in the Bahamas okay and boats are mainly used and what festival or what events do we have where we showcase our boat making scales and sailing can anybody tell me I'm sure some of us have been rough in before especially if you live in the island very good thank you so much excellent and creating t-shirts will be considered online industry where the finished product is not as heavy okay or it doesn't take as much to create bad products okay so excellent so now we're gonna go on to our tertiary industries everybody you know works in a tertiary industry okay so whether it's primary secondary or whether they start up in primary they're gonna end up in tertiary if they start up in secondary they're gonna somehow end up in tertiary okay every bohemian every human is involved in tertiary industries okay so this is where we provide our services so this is a service industry okay so the ad product is not most time is not anything physical but it's just in you doing your work so the work performed and then sometimes says no Goods or product to receive outside of you working okay good thank you Bernardo you gave me some responses very good so when we're looking at our tertiary industries some examples and I'm sure we know some thank you Sarah excellent that is one so some examples anybody else wants to shoot me some answers I got some I got three already and they are all correct gonna give everybody a chance to get some responses in very good insurance banks excellent very good briefs tourism good the other doing amazing so let's go over some examples there's just a few it's not because there are so many we honestly cannot faster everything in or we can't go over everything very good plumbing very good so we have teaching what I'm doing teaching we are providing you a service the service of education so that you can learn and that you can go out there and provide services okay we have banking we knew but we know banking and can anybody tell me where is banking ranks and our service in the street can anybody tell me web thank you very good excellent yalla on the roll today so banking is technically tell I see what I see we're doing here so banking is our second most important industry right but let's consider today today when we have a full shutdown right we don't have any tourism which is our number one industry so banking is now can now be considered our number one industry we can consider it although it's so second to tourism for us banking can now be considered our primary tertiary industry our primary service industry today okay just to get your Brock your brains stirring a bit but thank you so much for the responses that we have tourism on number one industry we have lawyers we have caterers so if you are if you know someone who cooks right some of the cooks they cater weddings Ted all these things that is an industry they are service best services to provide you with delicious food okay and now our grocery stores this is a tertiary industry that we especially need now right our grocery stores they are supplying us with our food food materials are washing materials anything that we need to basically live day-to-day and survive okay good so now we're going to look at coronary industries so sometimes one when we talk about ordinary industries we're looking at our intellectual services can anybody tell me the name of one of our intellectual services or where we go for research and development well it's one place that we go then we want to improve ourselves you want to research something but that development need information okay Bernardo yes but in a sense let's think a little higher let's think a little higher this is a place where I'm gonna feed you some feed you so we could get our brains ticking there's a place where all of us want to go we're told we should aspire to go here so our ordinary sector of Industry this deals with intellectual services third this includes research develop information okay so what about main coronary industries which I'm seeing responses for very good is the University of the Bahamas College so this is these are the places where we go to learn more okay so can anybody tell me very good venado so can anybody tell me why is it so important can be evaluate can we really value it the importance of our coronary industries right now how important our coronary industries do it as we consider our living situation today we have it's a lot at stake we're in a new age we don't know what's gonna happen so we need we have to rely on research and development and information correct good so when we rely on these things we now have able to see a way out of this pandemic or to see how we are we can move forward to be better in the future okay so that is one example or one way that we can evaluate the importance of our ordinary in the streets okay so when we think about it simply put our primary industries are where we cultivate or exploit our natural resources our secondary industries where we take the outputs from our primary industries convert them into our consumer on capital goods and then our tertiary industry is where we sell our products okay and a tertiary industry is what really holds the economy of our countries okay so they call me the world it's down now because a lot of our tertiary industries our service industries are on hold okay so let's review really quickly the first one the person flipping a book and everybody tell me what that is thank you to meet rest I am seeing your response excellent can we come can anybody tell me what the first answer is excellent briefs very good so for the sake of time I'm gonna go through so our first one is our ordinary industry so he's reading he's trying to gain more information but our first our second picture with the cow what industry would that be very good the shot our second balloon is primary goods Parise good Kevin our third pitcher with the big truck which industry would that be very good excellent that would be our secondary industry and then our last and final but the doctor wrapping up a cast would be a very good thank you so much for not I'm seeing your responses thank you and that would be our tertiary industry excellent thank you so much Carol Reese and Sarah you are correct good so this is a quick activity this is going to be on the site all right it's going to be attached to them to the actual table this attached the actual PowerPoint excuse me so you're going to match the industries from the word box under there correct in the street now this is Bahamian bass okay I did my best to make a payment based outside of one or two okay so you are going to take the word boss and you're going to list the industries based on primary secondary and tertiary okay so I gave some examples so primary would be farming a secondary industry would be furniture making and in our tertiary industry will be teaching okay so this is there for you to work with okay and the total points for it would be 20 so I think that is the end of my PowerPoint right on time and everybody did such an excellent job today I want to thank everybody for participating with me and working with me in the PowerPoint this was fun and thank you so much for coming please remember to review your notes these notes are yours if you want to take them and write them into your book if you want to print them do whatever they are yours to learn from okay so I will see everybody on Friday God spares our life thank you so much be safe everybody
