How to Start a Clothing Brand in 2024

Yo, what up YouTube? I'm back with another video. And in this video, I'm going to be showing y'all how to start a clothing brand in 2024, the best and most efficient way to make you as profitable as quick as possible and turn your life around in 2024. So if you don't know who I am, my name is Caprice. I am an 18 year old clothing brand owner, almost seven figure clothing brand owner. My brand is Project Caprice. I'll pop it up right here. You can go do your research. I used to have a brand called Adore Caprice before I rebranded, made almost a million dollars off my brand alone, not aside from everything else. I'm a young entrepreneur and I made one of these videos last year, but the clothing brand scene is always changing. So I'm going to make an updated one and I'm going to show you how to make this profitable and how to make clothing your living. First thing I want to do before we even start this video is I'm going to do a little bit of self promo. I have a School, which is basically a community with 700 plus brand owners. I'll pop up some videos here and literally everything. And when I say everything, everything I'm mentioning in this video is in my school. What do you call it? Designers, manufacturers, how to market, how to get in touch with influencers, size charts, measurements, everything, fabrics, anything you need to learn is in my school. I do weekly calls in there. I have people like Who's Casper, Hollywood Shack, and they're doing calls, dropping sauce. So yeah. And just for this video, since I hope this video is going to do pretty good, since I know a lot of people are starting brands this year, I'm going to do a sale for it right now. Right now it's $75. I'm going to drop it down to let's say $47. Now I'm going to also be telling you guys how to do everything in this video without joining my school. So I already have a ton of members. I already have a lot of people I'm helping. So if you don't want to join, that's fine. I'm going to tell you how to start a clothing brand with and without it. Disclaimer, before we even start this video, a brand is not a get rich quick scheme. If you don't actually have a love for clothes, fashion, et cetera, then you should not be making a brand. I know you probably see everybody else around you making brands, making good money off it and stuff like that, but I promise you it's not a get rich quick scheme. And if you're really trying to build the brand up, you won't be profitable at the beginning unless you have the right mentorship or the right guidance so you don't make the mistakes everyone else makes. right? So it's not a get rich quick scheme. So if that's what you're thinking, then either click off this video or keep watching this video and see if you have love for it and you'd really want to do it. Okay. So the first thing you're obviously going to do is come up with a name. Now, a good catchy name that's not too corny or cliche is always going to do you the best. Now. You're not going to have nothing with motion. I said this in my last video. You're not going to have nothing with motion in it. You're going to try to not use this little corny stuff. You know what I'm talking about. You've seen the brands that are clones, Hellstar dupes, whatever, whatever. You don't want to just have a basic name. A hint for getting a name is, well, my brand name is Project Capri and my name is Caprice and Capri is Latin for goat. So in Latin, Capri means goat and it's Project Capri, which is the project of turning the youth into their best versions of themselves and turning them into their best version of themselves. Because if you don't know what goat means, it means greatest of all time. A suggestion to find your own name is take a name that you want to use and go to Urban Dictionary and see what it means in other languages. And maybe you'll get a cool name. For instance, my cousin, I'm currently mentoring him right now to build up his brand. So if you don't believe my words, when I made this video, my cousin's brand has like 20 followers. Maybe he hasn't even posted. And I'm about to turn him all the way up, make sure everybody's eating. So his very name is Omureta.cos. Cos stands for code of silence. And Omureta is basically like a Latin word that means like no snitching, no telling and stuff like that. It's all on his page if you want to go check it out. But you're going to want to first come up with a name. And that's the easiest part. You should be able to do that alone. And then once you get a name, you're going to want to go to the next part. Okay, next, you're going to want to pick an aesthetic. There's a bunch of different brands with different aesthetics that you can search through, or you can go find a brand that you mess with and try to use their type of aesthetic. But basically, aesthetic is what someone feels or what it looks like or what vibe it gives when someone first comes to your page, right? For instance, Billionaire Studios and Euphoric 777 have completely different aesthetics and niches. but they can both still sell. So that's why you need to figure out what niche you like the most and which niche you enjoy. And then you're going to try to run with that niche and keep your designs within that niche. There's streetwear niches, like more of like an email type niche, more of a happy uptight niche. You know what I mean? There's a whole bunch of different niches, whatever brand you like, you can follow that niche and just keep it in that bubble. So you know what your target market is. Okay. Next thing you're going to want to do is you're going to want to get a designer. now a lot of y'all aren't gonna be able to do this yourself not everyone is just artistically gifted you know I mean so you probably can't draw you probably don't know how to use procreate now can you obviously learn those things of course but that's gonna extend the amount of time it takes for you to get your business up and going so what you're gonna want to do is get you a designer of course like I said there's a whole list of like 20 of them in my school but if you don't want to go to any of those designers you can just put dot std on the search of Instagram and a bunch of designers will pop up only bad thing about using those designers is everyone's going to the same designer so everyone's designs look the same you know what i mean and that's how you get the hell star dupes and the weak clothes and stuff like that so yeah either do your own research use the ones in my school or search dot std and you'll find you a designer and basically what you want to do is come up with an idea of what you want and basically have the designer bring it to life So for me, for instance, I design my own clothes or I'll come up with the ideas only here and there will a designer come up with the whole thing. That's if they just like make it pre-made, but I'll come up with a design for a pair of jeans. I'll either sketch it or explain it to my designer. And then my designer will make something called a mock-up. And this is how a mock-up looks right here. It's not the physical product, but it's how the product is supposed to look once it's done. And once they make you that mock-up, they're going to send you the files that you need to send to your manufacturer and everything like that. And then boom, now you have a whole design. So you're wondering maybe what should you make first is really up to you and really up to your budget. You can make a t-shirt first, which isn't too crazy. People aren't too urged to buy t-shirts. You can make a hoodie first. I would maybe recommend making a set first because sets have the best profit margins. For instance, I can get these sets that I sell right here for about $49 a set. And then if you sell the hoodie for 65 and the sweats for 65, you could do the math on how good of a profit margin that is. And for the people that don't watch me wondering like, damn, why is he dropping his prices like that? If you didn't know, I am the most authentic, genuine, transparent brand owner slash business person on this app. You'll meet. I'll tell all numbers. I don't really care. and I used to hate when I was starting up that nobody would tell me the numbers, nobody would tell me how much profit they would make and stuff like that, because then you don't really know if you want to start the business or not. So I'm the most transparent motherfucker you'll meet. So that's why sets are the best for profit margins, because once you sell even the hoodie alone, you already made your money back. So then when you sell the sweats, you done made all that money basically free. Okay, so you have your design, you have your files, and you know what you want to drop. You're going to have your Instagram set up and everything, and now you're going to have your website set up. You need, well, basically the most important thing, a manufacturer. Now I'm going to keep it a thousand with you. If you want to separate yourself in 2024, especially with your brand, you have to go to a China manufacturer. You cannot go to one of these Instagram manufacturers. You cannot go to a Pakistan manufacturers. And to be quite frank, half of the Pakistan manufacturers are scamming anyway. Literally my homie uses a Pakistan manufacturer and him and two other influencers that he knows have been scammed by the same manufacturer. It's kind of like the dope game when it comes to these Pakistan manufacturers. you'll do a small bulk, they'll do it right. You do as little in a small bulk, you do it right. And as you gradually build up, now you're spending 10K on a bulk. They rip your ass. They don't send you your shit or they don't send you the amount that you asked for. Fuck up the quality, whatever it may be. But definitely shy away from Pakistan manufacturers. The quality difference is crazy. I can tell just by looking at something. Now, like I'm going to say on every list on here, you can either go in my school and there's about 25 lists of manufacturers from beginner manufacturers to the most advanced manufacturers that even I use. But if you don't have the startup money, then you're going to want to go to Alibaba. Alibaba is an app where you can find a manufacturer and you're going to go on that app and you're just going to scroll around and you're going to basically search for some manufacturer, get their work, see how they've done. Alibaba is insured. So you're, even if you get scammed, Alibaba will give you your money back. and let me give you guys a little trick real quick on how to find a manufacturer on alibaba okay so when you go on alibaba and you're on your page if you click at the bottom right where it says my alibaba you can see right there it'll say request for quotation and then basically you can make a post and you can put a picture of your mock-up how much gsm you want it to be what fabric you want it to be if you wanted acid wash whatever you can make that post and then it'll get sent out to all the manufacturers and any manufacturer that thinks they can do it or do that either for you they will text you so you don't even have to find a manufacturer now all you're gonna have to do once they text you is obviously have them send pictures of their work make sure it's quality work and then yeah now you have just found yourself a manufacturer for free uh hopefully the business is good i don't know i don't mess with just random manufacturers all my manufacturers i either had to pay another brand owner for i found myself or it was just trials and tribulations you know i mean so definitely make sure the manufacturer is legit and then now you have a manufacturer you Okay, now that you have your design, you have your manufacturer to get it made, now you're going to need a Shopify. Now, this is what stops a lot of people. And I always say that someone just asked me the other day, like, how did you accomplish so much at a young age? Like I said, if you guys don't know me, I'm an 18-year-old entrepreneur, almost seven figures liquid. I bought my dad a house, bought it by my mama house. I have a track hog and an AMG. So I've built a lot of sets just off the brand alone. scurried out into a bunch of other things, right? So someone asked me, how did you do all this so young? And I always say that you start something young and if you really want it that bad, you'll just figure it out. If you really want to make a clothing brand that bad, you wouldn't let Shopify saying you have to be 18 stop you from making a Shopify. So basically all you have to do is get anyone over the age of 18 that you know to let you use their SSN, which sounds crazy. but it lets you use the SSN to make a Shopify. Basically, you're going to go on Shopify. You can even sign up. Sometimes they have a deal for $1 a month for three months. So that's like three bucks right there. And you're going to get either a brother, sister, mom, anybody. When you're signing up, they're going to put their name on it and they're going to put their SSN on it. And then you can just switch it once you turn 18. You're going to go get a Shopify theme, which I have for free in my school, or you can go to FKX Media on Instagram or like openspaces.io, I believe. and you can go buy you a theme and you're gonna change your website around so you just don't have the blank website basically right and then you're gonna want to download an app called postscripts postscripts is the best app Let me show you something real quick. Okay, out of my almost seven figures in sales for my clothing brand, 330,000 of them have came from my postscripts. Basically what a postscripts is, is if you ever went onto a website and something pops up and it says, enter your number here for 10% off, enter your email here for 10% off. Basically what that is, is you give your number and it texts you a discount code for the website. And then what you could do as a brand owner, is you could go to is you can send out a text to everyone on your SMS list, which comes straight to their phone. And that will basically notify people whenever you drop, whenever you do a discount on anything, anything you need to do. Basically what you want to do is funnel as much followers and traction as you can into your SMS list. I have, I think I just said 24,000 subscribers on my SMS list. because those are the people that really, really want to buy your clothes. And if you can funnel it to them, then boom, you can do drops just with your SMS list alone. I don't even have to post on Instagram if I don't want to. I can literally just go send a text out through my SMS and boom, I can have a sold out drop just like that. You know what I mean? And the conversion rates are way higher through your SMS. So definitely set up a postscript and yeah, that's going to help you for sure. Okay. So next thing you're going to want to do is actually get your product in hand and bring it to life, which is one of the best feelings as a clothing brand owner out there. So what you're going to want to do is get a sample. So let's say you did a set. You're going to get the hoodie and the pants. A sample can be anywhere from a hundred to $300. And if you don't have that, go out there and do something, work for it. Like I said, like my mom was just saying, my last video, I used to sell water bottles when I was little, just so I could get money to buy shoes, to resell, do whatever you got to do. even if that means you got to get a nine to five, work for a week or two, get a good check to start it up, boom, or just even if you take a loan from your homie and you'll pay him back plus interest, however you got to do it, get that couple hundred dollars so that you can buy a sample of your clothes. Now to avoid fucking up a sample, you're going to want to know your stuff off rip. So you're going to want to know what GSM you want. You're going to want to know if you want to acid wash fade on it. If you want any distressing on it, you're going to want to know what size chart you're going to want to use. which all of that info is available to learn slash use in my school. And if not, you can go on essence. It's a clothing website. And then you're going to go find a hoodie that you like the fitment of scroll down and it'll show you the size chart. And you can use that size chart for your hoodie. And then basically GSM is kind of just like how much your garment weighs. So for a t-shirt, they're usually like maybe two to 300, if they're made overseas for a hoodie, they can be anywhere from 400 to a thousand. You know what I mean? just all stuff you gotta learn that acid wash this purple hoodie i got right here as you can see up here at the top is acid wash so yeah just learn all that stuff so you don't mess up your sample and you're good the first time and before you officially buy a sample you're going to want to know if you're going to have influences or not so if you're trying to send out to a heck of people you're probably going to want to order samples in their size so you can send it out to them or you could do what I did. I just met up with my homie three stacks today so he could take some pictures in these denim. I'm about to drop soon, but I only have one sample. So I have him take pictures in them. I'm going to take pictures in them. I'm going to ship them to an influencer. They're going to take pictures in them, send them back. I'm going to send them to a different influencer. Doing all that with one sample and about like $30 in shipping labels is how you can utilize just one sample to your max potential. All right, next thing you're going to want to do is figure out how you're going to promote your brand. Now there is a A couple of different brands. This also goes with your aesthetic, but you're going to be, if you're a brand that runs ads heavy, you're going to see if you're a brand that's more organic, you're a brand that uses a lot of influencer promo, you're a brand that shows a lot of love to their customers. Like for instance, a brand that maybe uses ads a lot would be like Euphoric 77. Like I said earlier, a brand that repost their customers a lot would probably be like GVG Gallery, et cetera. There's just different kinds of way you want to market it. This is where studying comes in, where you're going to want to just look around, see other brands, see how they're marketing, see what you want to do, and just learn a little bit about marketing. Once you know how to market, and I've been a marketing student for three years now, and just learning marketing on my own through trials and tribulations with TikTok and YouTube, et cetera, you can damn near make any business. You know what I mean? I can go make a business fucking. selling water to a whale right now. And as long as I know how to market and convince that whale to buy that water, then you'll always be good. So marketing is definitely something you want to learn. Obviously, yes, I teach that in my school. Marketing is what damn near best that. So you can learn some stuff in there as well. And I don't want y'all to think that I'm promoting my school heavy, but it's just like, I literally made this school for the sole purpose of that. You would be able to do everything you want for your brand in literally one location. so like it's just for me to say all this stuff and y'all can be like damn where can i find that damn where can i find that guess what it's in the school motherfucker i've got 700 plus brand owners in there i've had less than like 15 cancellations total for people that left so you can leave anytime yeah the link will be down below but that's why i just pushed the school so heavy because literally everything you need is in there you're also going to want to figure out if your brand is going to be scarce or if you're going to want to figure out if you're The brand is going to be a brand that you can shop from 24-7. And if you hear my little brother in the back, that's my bad. Just charge up the game. But there's two different brands. For instance, Minimal.LA, which is M-N-M-L-L-A, right? They're a brand that you can shop at any time. No matter when you go on their website, they're going to have clothes available. It's good for impulse buys, which is when someone's just up randomly at 2 a.m. and they want to get their wardrobe together or something and they go shopping for clothes. And then you run across an ad and you can buy it at any time. And then there's brands that are more scarce, right? So a scarce brand, their drops are either pre-made or they only drop a couple times a month. And what this does is it makes you be able to price your items higher. In the market of clothing, scarcity also equates to like how much it worth, how much it's worth basically. So for the same way that you don't see a lot of people in Balenciaga is the reason Balenciaga can charge so much. And also because of the people who wear Balenciaga. So you're going to want to figure out if you're going to be a brand that's constantly having stuff on their website. that people can buy or if you're going to be a brand that's going to have maybe two big drops a month for instance i'll have like one collection drop a month that'll do like 250 000 that's completely pre-made that ships in only a week now obviously if i wanted to i could run a pre-order and instead of doing 250 000 i could do like 400 000 but that fucks with your customer service because if it's a pre-order your ship is going to be way longer so that's what you're going to figure out are you going to constantly have stuff on your site and then just order a bulk every week? Or are you going to have drops that are like pre-made ish where you only have drops here and there, which is a little bit easier to maintain. And then obviously the most basic thing is what you're going to want to find out is if you're doing a pre-order or pre-made, or you're going to use my method. So a pre-order is let's say you have minimal funds starting up. Let's just say you have $500 to your name. you spend it on samples, a couple ads, or maybe an influencer, right? So you obviously don't have the money to buy a bunch of inventory upfront. So what you're going to do is just promote your sample and then run a sale and let people order, even though you don't have the clothes, obviously you have to let them know that. And then you're going to order the clothes that the people bought with the money that they bought it with. Now, if you're running a pre-made, this is going to raise your conversion rates and raise how many people will actually end up buying your clothes, but you have to have some money put up from whatever you've done before. let's say your book is 5k, then you're going to pay that 5k to start it. You're going to get the closing and then you're going to sell them as they're in, which is going to raise your conversions and you can sell in person, but you're definitely gonna have to have money put. Now my method, which is my favorite method, which can save you money is it's called the half and half method, basically. Right? So let's say your book is 5k and let's say you have 5k saved up, right? You were working a job, you had a side hustle. whatever. You're going to pay to start your book, to start your book. It should be no more than half of the percent. So you're going to pay 50% of whatever the book prices. So if your book is 5k, you're gonna have to pay 2,500 to make them start making it. So you're going to pay the 2,500 to start your book right out of your own money. And then they're going to start making it. And they're going to tell you a date around when it will be done. let's say your book finishes January 5th you're gonna drop December 31st so when you drop December 31st you can still market it as a pre-made because the pieces are already done and finishing up and it's already a limited quantity so it is pre-made and then you're gonna drop the 31st your check is probably gonna hit on the second or third and then the money you made you're gonna use that to pay the other 2,500 right so this is what I do because for instance my books will be like 70 grand to make 220 grand right so I'll pay 30k up front out of pocket and then they'll start it and then I'll drop I'll do 220k I'll get that 220k check I'll send the manufacturer another 30 and then pay another 10 for shipping and then boom now you got left over with the profit your shipping only takes about a week or two and your customers are happy and boom all it takes is a little startup money so that's just my personal method I don't really know no other brand owners using that method so if I put you on make sure you drop in like comment down below because like someone was telling me someone in my last video when I was explaining how much I make a month they were like oh he got to be capping if he was making that much a month he wouldn't still be making YouTube videos and I don't think y'all realize that I'm a social media influencer or that I make money off the internet so like videos like this are helping me as much as they're helping you you know what I mean so Now you have your brand name, you have your Shopify, you have your meaning, you have your samples, you have your manufacturer, you have your designer, you have everything you need. Now it's going to be time to drop. So now you're going to want to promote for about two weeks. You don't want to promote too long because then the people that seen you at the beginning, by the time it's the third week, they're going to be like, come on, bro, this shit's getting old. Like when are you going to drop? You know what I mean? So you're going to want to promote for about two weeks. I personally would not drop until you have at least 2,500 followers. on Instagram. If you use the 1% conversion rule with either your followers or how much traction you get through your website or how many SMS customers you have, 1% of however much you have is how many sales you'll end up with. So people be dropping when they only have four or 500 followers and then wonder why they're only getting two or three, four orders. And one of them's auntie Sam from down the road is because you haven't reached enough people yet. So I personally would find a way to not drop until you at least get. 1500, 2000, 2500 to be safe. And then you're going to run either meta ads, which I have a ads coach inside my school that runs meta ads and you can track your conversions, or you can just use boost posts. Boost posts only really work though if your product is really, really like him for real, you know what I mean? So, but boost posts can definitely help. You're going to want to post IG reels, TikToks, YouTube shorts, whatever you need to do to get yourself out there. and push your brand a little bit more. So you're going to do that. And you're going to try to rack up as much followers and as much things as possible. You're going to lock in with some influencers. There's a lot of upcoming influencers that have a good amount of following. And if you just give them a free piece that they'll promote your stuff for free. And then there's also some influencers that have a bigger following that if you pay them, they can definitely add a good amount of revenue to your drop. So you're going to want to get some influencers and stuff like that. So you don't have to do it all alone. And when scaling your brand, you're going to do stuff like reposting your customers or showing love, giving back to your customers, which make people have like a cult fan base to you, which will always be great. So if someone posts your clothes, repost it, someone does a feed post, repost it. You can even do a feed post with the top 10 flyest customers you got. You know what I mean? Stuff like that will help you scale your brand immensely. And just getting your clothes in the right people's hands is super important. And then boom, it's drop time. Now you're going to have to buy the basics. You want to buy some poly mailers. You can get those off Amazon. You want to get a label printer. You can get that off Amazon. You're going to want to get the label printing paper. You can get that off Amazon. Just simple stuff like that. Maybe little thank you cards. All that should add up to no more than like 150 maybe, right? So you're going to want to order all those things. So when your stuff comes in, you can actually fulfill them. You're going to want to keep your customers updated throughout the whole process. So you don't get what's called chargeback. chargebacks will have Shopify holding your money and holding a percentage of how much you make. Shopify just released 115,000 from me three days before my birthday also. So like they will hold your money and you only have to have a 1% chargeback rate. So if you get a hundred orders and two people charge back on you, then Shopify will hold your money and they will be coming after you. So make sure you keep your customers updated and you ship in a timely manner. once you get your clothes and once you have all your stuff together and it's time to fulfill them, you can either go through pirate ship, which is a little bit cheaper. And there's videos on YouTube on how to use pirate ship, or you can just go through Shopify itself and buy all the labels. And yeah, basically you're just going to want to print all the labels out, get your clothes, put them in the poly mailer, look at what they ordered, boom, slap the label on and boom, you just shipped it out and you just made some people's yearly salary in one drop at whatever age you are. So it's definitely not too hard. It's just the reaching people part in the marketing part That's hard because a lot of people just want to be rich They want to have a good lifestyle and they've never really done nothing with social media like that So they're not good at making content and then they try to make a brand and their contents wag They're using a Pakistan manufacturer shippings two months and then they wonder why it doesn't sell That's why it's always good to have a mentor and I'm not telling you I have to be your mentor You can go to any brand owner that you think is successful and ask them to mentor you and or if they have a paid community like me, basically it'll get you through all the nooks and crannies. So your first drop can be 15, 20 K, 25 K. You're putting 10 bands up to move away. You know what I mean? So that you're not having to go through what I went through gradually, each drop making a little bit, a little bit more money. You know what I mean? But mine happened a little bit quicker than a lot of people else. So I'm blessed for that, but it's all about marketing. Trust me. and boom now you have a fully functioning clothing brand after you get to about maybe 20 30 K in sales you're gonna want to go get your LLC, EIN, all your documents and papers that you're going to need. If you're over 18, you're going to want to go get a business bank account and you're going to want to run money through your business bank account and especially through a credit union because they will give you good loans for your drops. So now they give you a 50K loan, you buy a 50K bulk, you sell out, give them their 50K back with minimal interest and boom, now you're basically making money out of thin air. So you're going to want to get that. I just got like my 1-800 number, my virtual address. That's once you're a little bit more into it, you know what I mean? You're going to end up getting all that for your brand. And now you have an established business that can make minimum 10K a month if you know what you're doing, which is what some people strive for. I've scaled it to the point where I can do 200K at any given month that I want. And I plan to take it even further. I hope my brand does around 1.5 to 2.5 million this year. So it's definitely a profitable business. one big thing that people don't get about clothing is maybe at the beginning the profit margins aren't good like that if you're trying to like be justifiable to everyone else in your prices but the profit is definitely there a lot of people will say like i'll have a 200k drop and they'll be like oh you made 200k but how much of it was profit like bro i just made some people's yearly salary in fucking 30 minutes and you're worried about how much of it was profit but for the people that do want to know a 200k drop for me is about 125 grand profit but i mean you get the money back regardless so it's not like you're losing the money so if i put up 70 bands get back 200 you know i mean i still get that 70 bands back you know what i mean so it's definitely a blessing for sure and our generation has it way better than older generations my parents you would love to be able to do stuff like this when they were younger. So definitely take advantage of it. You don't have to take the traditional route. You don't have to go through the route that everybody else is talking about. Find you a hustle to support your dream. And then boom, you can take off with this shit. I promise you I'd have done crazy shit. I'm going to do way more crazy shit just off my brand alone, not this other stuff I do. So that's how you start a clothing brand in 2024. For the last time, I'm going to say this. If you need designers, manufacturers, if you need help with designs, if you need an ads coach. If you want to see weekly calls like this with me and my group, daily calls for the inner circle, five different coaches. If you want any of that, the link will be down below. I'll pop a little preview of how it looks right here. It is on sale right now. So make sure you go join while you can. And I hope your brand is successful and I hope you take off in 2024. And I'm out. That's how to start a clothing brand in 2024.
