and just a heads up before we start this review you will want to have some booze with an easy reach and to be fair if you're watching any of my videos you probably half cut already now the pixel 9 Pro will cost you 999 gbps that's 200 quid more than the regular pixel 9 but it is a more affordable and pleasingly compact alternative to the pixel 9 Pro XL which doesn't compromise on the camera Tech and other features it's got all the same smart ass stuff that Google crammed into that whoop and great XL model but in a pleasingly pant friendly form I've had my Sims stashed inside of the pixel9 pro for a full week now came straight to it from that XL model so here's my in-depth review and for more on the latest and greatest Tech please do pug subscribe and ding that notifications Bell cheers let's begin by addressing the obvious problem here and that the pixel 9 Pro looks far too much like a sod iPhone for my liking I mean come on Google don't flip reverse the script and start copying Apple of all people for scrotum's sake it's incredibly confusing cuz I keep feeling like I want to drop kick this thing into the ocean and then I remember that it's not actually an iPhone thankfully you do at least still get that vertical camera bump which covers the entire width of the pixel 9 Pro it's a great finger shelf and it also means no wobbly desk shenanigans that oend is Co in soft touch matte glass which unfortunately does have the tendency to get rather finger printy and greasy still Al though maybe it'll be less obvious with some of the other color options as well as this here obsidian model you can also snaffle a pixel in porcelain rose quartz and a bit of Hazel as well which I think might be my personal favorite and you got a bit of Gorilla Glass victus 2 front and back and touchwood after a full week of pretty heavy-handed use the pixel9 pro still looking pristine although my pixel 9 Pro XL did have a light scratch on the back end after again a week of play time so you're probably going to want to Chuck a case on there just to be sure I mean these things ain't cheap you want to keep them looking as nice as possible and you once again have a metal frame but that shiny glossy finish makes it look shockingly cheap it's even more fingerprint and smear than the ass end so definitely knock off some points for that and the fact that it looks like a bloody iPhone but apart from that that compact finish on a pro model absolutely a breath of fresh air after being stuck in a lift full of farts that's the pro XL model by the way the lift full of farts as for that software well it is uh still Android 14 unfortunately but Android 15 will be here imminently and Google once again offering seven OS updates and seven full years of security patching with this bad boy 2 and of course you got that fresh new ultrasonic fingerprint sensor which I can't remember it fallen on its ass a single time this past week and even if you are wearing gloves or something you've always got a bit of Face Unlock as backup does usually take a wee bit longer than that fingerprint sensor depending on the Li and conditions but usually gets there in the end and I'm sure you'll be deeply relieved to hear that yes Google has kept that temperature sensor for the compact Pro perfect for those is my can of beer cold enough to consume emergencies although frankly I'm British I would happily consume it even if it was hotter than piss and you've also once again got that Ultra wideband Tech bunged in the Google pixel 9 Pro and of course I can't review this phone without banging on about all of those AI flavored features but wait don't click away let's make it a bit more Jolly by doing a shot for every AI feature mentioned got your booze ready kitties all way we go so first up there's Gemini which comes preloaded onto the pixel 9 Pro with a full year subscription to the advanced model checked in for free so you can get a bit of Gemini live on the go all that Shenanigans I have already banged on about this in my tips and tricks guides definitely go check that out for a closer look and as I said in my Pro 9 XL review I really really like Gemini especially Gemini live it's great been able to have a back and forth conversation with something that's actually pretty bloody smart it's great for planning your day then that just makes it worse that you only get the onee subscription to the advanced version and it'll cost you like 19 quids $20 a month after that if you want to keep it up it's enough to drive a massive skin Flint like me to drink uh next next up there's pixel screenshots oh one sec now every time you take a screenshot Gemini can read everything on there so rather than hunting through months or even years worth of picks you can just ask for specific info so for example what was the discount code for that Sushi offer I got this weekend and BOS there you go it's found the screenshot and it's given me the discount code that was in there and then there's pixel Studio which is exactly the kind of bollocks that most people probably think of when you say AI just ask it to draw a picture of whatever you want as long as it doesn't involve any people cuz it can't do those just yet and it also can't be anything that Gemini reckons is a bit dodgy massive bloody kill Joy no wait did I actually do my shot for that one yet oh well better safe than sorry and of course there's also all of the old Guff like Circle to search and uh can't really think of any more now then I can't really think of much to be honest and oh yeah Google has slapped a lovely super actual OLED display onto the pixel 9 Pro it's got 1280 by 2856 pixel resolution so it's a bit sharper than that standard pixel 9 despite maintaining the same screen size it's a dinky 6.3 incher but I still found it perfectly spacious enough for enjoying bit of movie action just a few episodes of stuff as your roing about and all that got extremely limited customization of the actual visual output put but colors are reasonably poppy you've got nice natural looking contrast full hdr10 streaming support of course in the likes of Netflix and I found that that display was just about bright enough to clearly see Outdoors even when it was sunny although if it was proper sunny I did occasionally have to pee over my shades to see what I was doing and unlike the regular pixel 9 it's ltpo Tech so that refresh rate scals all the way down from 120 HZ to just a single Hertz and despite it's decidedly dinky design the Google pixel 9 Pro can really spaff out a good bit of audio got a proper stereo speaker setup it's loud but also on that top volume I wouldn't use it to listen to music of course things are a bit tiny to say the least but certainly more than good enough for just enjoy some YouTube or Netflix or whatever if you can't be asked to get some headphones on the go and then of course performance you've got that tensor GeForce slapped in here the exact same as the pro XL and the regular pixel 9 that's backed here by a generous 16 gigs of RAM and I found with all of your regular day-to-day use everything runs silkily smooth and if you are into your gaming well the pixel 9 Pro can handle the likes of w and waves but you will see some frame drops when you boost the graphic settings to more higher levels especially if you're legging it about the place to the next Quest checkpoint or whatever and the pixel 9 Pro also wastes no time in heating right up those top edges are practically sizzling after just 10 to 15 minutes although thankfully I didn't see the performance drop any further and this phone doesn't get so toasty that it decides you know what this noise and just shuts itself down now for the battery life you've got the same capacity cell here as the regular pixel 9 4,700 milliamp I got to say one of the biggest upgrades for me on the pixel 9 Pro versus the old pixel 8 is that battery life it's absolutely Ruddy Stellar in fact the pixel9 pro is quite comfortably one of the best smartphon I reviewed in 2024 for longevity most days I end with at least 30% battery life remaining and that's with plenty of camera play which usually drains these things pretty fast not to mention video streaming audio streaming all the usual stuff and fortunately however like all Google blowers the pixel 9 Pro rather lethargic when it comes to recharging you got 27 WT wide charging support So bung a cable in it and it'll take the best part of an hour just over an hour usually to fill back up if it is mostly drained and You' also have that Chi wireless charging support as well 21 wats so slightly nippier than the regular pixel 9 of course filling it back up will still take bloody ages so let's finish as always by banging on about the camera Tech and what you got here is the same 50 meg primary octopede sensor and 48 Meg Ultra wide angle shoots with autofocus as the other pixel 9 blowers and like the big old Pro XL you've also got a 48 Meg quad PD Tel for Al shooter with five times optical zoom and the camera app enjoys the same setup as that Pro XL as well so once again you've got that dedicated Pro section where you can bump up the resolution to 50 meg if you want you can also shoot raw images and manually select the lenses and I was happy approximately 97% of the time with the photos that the pixel 9 Pro out occasionally I'll have to H away a pick because of some kind of lens flaring or saturation even if I wasn't shooting directly into the light and if it's a bit dark and my subject dares to Twitch well chances are you'll get a bit of blur which magic editor still can't properly sort out but the rest of the time we're talking gloriously natural looking shots with realistic tones and textures I mostly ignored the 50m highres mode cuz the default 12 Meg mode spaffed out finely detailed photos to the point where I could digitally crop into them on my laptop and still be left with a sharp looking image even nasty HDR type scenarios don't flx the pixel 9 Pro although you will see some slight grain when the light is in limited Supply as usual this Google blower is excellent for capturing stills of your kids cats and other living stuff as long as they can bloody keep still at night of course oh and yeah I've got to give a quick shout out to the hunterian museum in London and its awesome gift shop where I took this pick got to admit I did not expect a museum that was dedicated to surgery to stock any kind of kids merch in the gift shop but hey there's something strangely adorable about a soft toy small poox and a cuddly dip theia as for that Ultra wide angle lens well this is a g in for your macro shots as well as more dramatic snaps again with a pretty natural looking output overall as for that telephoto sensor where you can zoom in up to 30 times in ttal helped Along by some AI sharpening that's as good as any that I've seen lately and this shooter is particularly good for portrait picks as well as capturing photos of your fluffy Pals even when they're in full on leave me the alone mode and of course you've got the Nifty new adme feature which works pretty well just take a shot and then swap with anyone who was already in the pick so then you can be added into the shot for a complete group pick and as always Google has stuffed loads of fantastic editing tools onto the pixel 9 Pro including the snazzy new autof frame feature which is perfect if you do struggle to frame shots normally just offers up a few different alternative options including some that are pulled back even further uses AI to fill in the gaps around the frame but again I'm banged on about the photo editting Shenanigans in that pixel9 tips and tricks guide so definitely go have a squint at that if you want to know more and video capture is as smooth as ever you got nice sharp crispy visuals at that 4K resolution setting and you can swap between all three lenses on the Fly although the picture does Skip slightly awkwardly to the side when you hit the five time zoom and it switches to the telephoto sensor got a triple mic setup on here and some pretty clever processing means Crystal Clear audio a your capture with reduced wind noise and background Boler and the pixel 9 Pro phones also offer up a tasty bit of video boost which has improved a lot over what I saw on the pixel 8 Pro and this does still need to upload your footage to the cloud in order to clean it up and while rendering time is now allegedly a bit shorter video boost still seems to take hours every time you use it but still it is worth it for those low light clips which come out the other end with a lot less grein and video boost can even upgrade that resolution to 8K if you've got an 8K Telly you're rich sod and like the pro XL you've also got yourself a 42 Meg selfie shooter which is a pretty good in pixels of the past used to struggle in lower light and yeah you'll still get some grainy results at times but the pixel 9 Pro generally vomits out quite sharp picks with impressive color reproduction even when that backlighting is full on my skin tone was usually a wee bit warmer than in real life making me look less like an albino which frankly I quite liked and using that front-facing camera you can once again show up to 4K resolution Ultra HD video footage stabilization is not quite as good as with the back but not too bad at all and the audio capture again nice and clear and that right there my Lov these and a tasty we nutshell is the fresh new Google pixel 9 Pro I got to say it's one of my favorite phones thus far in 2024 cuz I like a dinking and you don't get much more dinky than this in 2024 that's for sure because you got all those Pro features still packed in there with no compromises despite the fact that you can slip it into your pocket without popping your pancreas Also the battery life has massively improved over the previous generation as well so absolutely no stresses in that department at all it's pretty bloody good for gaming as well even if the G4 does still tend to get a wee bit tosty anyway there you have it my lovelies that's
