Switching from Windows to Mac OS
Right Click Methods
Ctrl + Click
: Hold down the Ctrl key and click trackpad/mouse.
Two-Finger Tap
: Use the trackpad with two fingers.
Magic Mouse
: Activate right-click in System Settings:
Apple Logo → System Settings → Mouse → Set click right side for secondary click.
Dock vs. Taskbar
Mac Dock
: Similar to Windows Taskbar for pinning apps.
Place most-used apps here.
Launchpad: Access all downloaded apps; drag to Dock for quick access.
Rightmost section: Recently used/open apps, and Trash Bin.
Adding Folders
: Drag folders to Dock for quick access.
View Options
: Right-click folder → choose view option (Fan, Grid, List).
Notification Center
Access
: Swipe with two fingers from right edge of trackpad or click time/date in top-right corner.
Widgets
: Personalize by drag-and-drop.
Control Center
Quick settings for sound, display, Wi-Fi, and Bluetooth.
Drag specific options next to the Control Center icon for one-click access.
Spotlight Search
Activation
: Command + Spacebar.
Functions
: Search apps, settings, files, text within files, weather, currency conversions, quick calculations.
File location
: Use Command + R to reveal in Finder.
Finder
Path Bar
: View → Show Path Bar to navigate folder hierarchy.
Sidebar
: Pin important folders by dragging them there.
Viewing Options
: Command + 1/2/3/4 to toggle between list, grid, etc.
Preview Files
: Spacebar to sneak peek content.
Moving Files
: Option + Command + V instead of Command + X.
Menu Bar
Top of screen, changes with app focus.
App Settings
: Usually found under app name → Preferences.
Apple Menu
: Always present, quick access to Mac info, system settings, App Store, shutdown/restart.
Switching Between Apps
Command + Tab
: Toggle between open apps.
Command + Tilde (~)
: Toggle between different windows of the same app.
Mission Control
: Swipe up with three fingers or press Mission Control icon to see all active windows.
Stage Manager
: Available in macOS Ventura, keeps active app front and center, others on the left.
Window Management
Resizing
: Hold Option while dragging the corner to resize from the center.
Splitting View
: Click and hold green maximize button to tile window.
Third Party Apps
: Magnet, Rectangle, Better Snap Tool for window snapping and arrangement.
Closing Apps
Red Circle (X)
: Closes window but not the app; use Command + Q to quit app.
Force Quit
: Apple menu → Force quit or Option + Right-click on the app in the Dock.
Scrollbars
Always Show
: System Settings → Appearance → Always show scroll bars.
