## Gap Analysis
The Gap between the current state and a desirable state
In information technology , gap analysis reports are often used by
project managers and process improvement teams as the starting
point for an action plan to produce operational improvement.
In software development , gap analysis tools can document which
services and/or functions have been accidentally left out and which
still need to be developed .
In compliance , a gap analysis can compare what is required by
certain regulations to what is currently being done to abide by them. 5/3/2025 7
## Gap Analysis
Steps:
1. Establish specific target objectives by looking at the
company's mission statement, strategic goals and
improvement objectives
2. Analyse current business processes by collecting
relevant data on performance levels and how resources
are presently allocated to these processes
3. Compare the company's target goals against its
current state
4. Draw up a comprehensive plan

## Gap Analysis
Documentation/Reporting:
Lists the processes and characteristics an organization seeks to improve
Area of focus can be:
broad, targeting the entire business
narrow, concentrating on a specific business process
Analysis can be:
Quantitative, e.g., looking at the number of customer calls answered
within a certain time -period
Qualitative, e.g., examining the state of diversity in the workplace 5/3/2025 9

Ability of cloud systems to add/remove resources in response to
real -time changes in demand
"With cloud elasticity, a company avoids paying for unused capacity
or idle resources and doesnt have to worry about investing in the
purchase or maintenance of additional resources and equipment"
"Typically, automated so it doesnt have to rely on human
administrators round the clock, and offers continuous availability of
services by avoiding unnecessary slowdowns or service
interruptions "
"Security and limited control are concerns to take into account when
considering elastic cloud computing "

## Challenges with integration
> 5/3/2025 30
On of the biggest challenges that I see our clients facing as they
start to purchase more and more different cloud services is how they
ensure that those cloud services will work well together and that
theyre integrated , and also how they will work with all of the
existing IT , which is not going to go away any time soon . Without
taking a very planned, and very careful approach to that, it could
become very chaotic very quickly, so understanding that whole
integration piece, and having a clear plan for how youre going to
make that work, is fundamental . Andrew Greenway, Accenture
> Managing Director -Global Cloud Sales and Strategy
Summary & seminar topic Summary
The process of gap analysis is a key part of understanding what
the business needs and what cloud services solution may best meet
that need.
Different patterns of business demand (for example) will
create different best solutions for a range of cloud services
(e.g., applications, platform or infrastructure)
The actual implementation of a cloud services solution should
be managed as any other significant IT project .
Integration is key

## Seminar topic
Consider Tesco
What aspects of their business would experience changes in
business demand as previously described;
Predictable bursting
Unpredictable bursting
Fast, regular growth
On and off / sporadic demand
What aspects of Tescos IT systems would need to be able to
respond to those changes in business demand and how?
