when you decided to pick up bass fishing I'm sure you thought I'm going to spend thousands of dollars on 10 rod and real combos right now of course you didn't and you shouldn't realistically you only need one rod and real combo to catch a bass but just as Tiger Woods could play better golf with just one Club than the rest of us ever could the same thing goes with fishing rods they each do a different thing so in today's video I'm going to recommend five different rod and real combos in which order you should purchase them if you want to slowly Build Your Arsenal and become a more efficient baset angler my name is Tyler and let's talk about it another giant another giant look at that y'all I can't believe what I just caught yes now this list of rods is my opinion on which order you should buy your first five rod and real combos whether you are fishing from the bass boat the bank or the kak and this is again my opinion but based on 20 years of bass fishing experience throwing every lure Under the Sun and this list moves from rods that are meant to throw easy to fish Lures and therefore hopefully easy to catch fish on lures to your more technique specific expert type stuff I've put a ton of thought into this five combination order hope it helps you and if you do plan on purchasing any of the combos I talk about or any other fishing product please use the links in my video description those are affiliate tackle links so if you click the link make your carton check out it helps my channel continue to grow now let's hop into Combo Number One I think every bass fisherman should have and that is a 7ft medium spinning rod there we go yes sir I gave him a little more business right on the grass line are you big now I myself am a bait caster fanatic but I really think for most people that are just picking up the sport of bass fishing that you need to get yourself a spinning rod there's less moving Parts than a b than a bit Caster the the backlash potential while it's still there when it was called wind knots on a spinning reel it's not quite as bad you don't lose as much line as you do if you're going to pick up a bay Caster first as opposed to a spinning rod now the first thing I'll say about all of these rods is that there's probably a 2in give or take leeway on the actual length of the rod that I'm talking about so I said 7ot medium spinning rod it could be 610 could be 72 just somewhere in that range is good for your very first spinning rod now I feel like I need to discuss real quick what power and action mean on these rods that way all five in which order I put them actually make sense so on a rod you have a power this is a medium and an action it is a fast and what that means in in layman's terms is that the power is basically just how whippy the is if you go into Academy or bass per shops and you whip a rod around you are actually feeling the power of the rod not the action the action is how quickly the tip of the rod transitions to the actual backbone the hard blank of the rod that is the non-scientific way to describe power and action so power goes all the way from like extra Ultra medium light all the way to extra heavy and then the the uh the action goes from what is it moderate fast fast and extra fast and so in my opinion to throw the majority of the easyto fish Lures I'm talking soft plastic worms small crankbaits U maybe small top Waters tiny little jigs you want a again around 7t medium spinning rod and now that I'm thinking about it the main reason why a beginner should probably get a spinning rod is because it can just cast further when you are just beginning your journey fishing so not everybody can go slinging a bay casting rod out there 50 yards from the bank but as long as you have a heavy enough lure you can overhand cast a spinning rod the line spools out and you have a good long cast and that is crucial if you are just beginning your fishing journey to get long casts out there and a spinning rod usually has a slower gear ratio than your average bait caster does and so it allows you actually doesn't allow you it forces you to fish slower unless you're to reel this thing extra fast down there with your lures and as I talked about the more beginner style lures your wacky rigs your Texas rigs all kinds of soft plastic worms they Excel matter of fact I would highly recommend that you fish them extra slow and so I think a spinning combo while bit casters are the majority of the rods on this list a spinning combo is absolutely needed if you are just beginning your fishing Journey so again 7 foot 610 72 somewhere in that Medium category I would say is good for your first Rod I would not recommend an extra fast Rod action just because I feel like it's a little bit too stiff up there at the top you can't quite feel your soft Plastics your Drop shots your racky rigs just a 7 foot medium fast or a 7ft medium moderate fast is the best rod and again I will have all my favorites linked down in the video description so that was Rod number one we're going to set that one off to the side as we discuss Rod combo I think every angler should get number two and that is a 7t medium bake Caster ooh oh my goodness holy cow come on now now I'm sure the first thought that's popped into your head about a bit Caster is Tyler that is cool but man is it scary and I backlash this thing every time that I've tried I gave up on the bait casting rod I'm just telling you guys if you look at the front deck of the majority of pro bass fishermen again the professional athletes are the ones we look to to see what the best way to do things are they have majority bake casting rods and that is because this style of combo is just a more efficient way to fish I can fish faster I can fish more efficient in shallow water and in deep water I found that finesse is better on a spinning rod but everything else for me hooks that power fighting a fish managing the fish is better on a bait casting rod and that is why this one number four and number five are all bait casters now I feel like the the uh the thought process for a long time in the fishing industry was 7ot medium heavy and that's probably still the number one bait casting combo sold at all brick and mortar and online stores but I feel like 7ft medium heavy the same reason why I chose a medium power spinning rod not a medium heavy is because I feel like when you're a beginner angler you don't quite have the mechanics to get a really good load of the rod to cast extra hard and if you try it may result in a backlash pretty quick and so I think a medium power Rod being a little more flimsy just allows for a little bit better cast when you are just beginning the rest of my bit casters are not medium matter of fact I only have one two maybe three bake casters that are medium power rods for the majority they are not medium but I think again for every beginner angler whether you want to throw lipless crankbait vibrating jigs uh soft plastic worms I say with a weight up to like/ qu ounce uh half ounce and under jigs a 7ft medium bit Caster can work fantastic for that again give or take 2 inches although with a bit Caster I would go more on the give to 72 medium I believe this is actually yes this is a 72 medium extra fast bake casting rod the lose mock smash fantastic combo I I will have it linked below as well as kind of my favorite combo to put together from a different rod and a different reel but this thing is a fantastic Rod I have actually met people at the bank during my hunter Pawn series that throw this exact same combo and they tell me it is fantastic and I also can attest I own one it's great now I know this video is not about fishing line it's about the rotten reels but if you're a beginner and you're wondering what the best line for a bait caster is I would say 15b fluorocarbon this here is seagar Basics or 30 lb braid those are both good lines to throw on a bait caster I think braid backlashes a little bit less than than a resin line a mon a filament or a Flor carbon but I would highly recommend Flor Carbon on your bited Caster to start out just because you're throwing a whole bunch of soft Plastics and crankbaits that kind of stuff and fluorocarbon is a better line than braid for that so that is Rod Combo Number Two let's move on to the third combo back to the spinning rod and that is a 7t medium light spinning rod got him oh yeah oh yeah I think this is a five yeah yeah this is for sure a five pounder now Tyler you said a 7t medium is the first rod and then a 7t medium light is the third Rod aren't those just practically the same thing to that I say absolutely not at least in my opinion the difference between a medium power and a medium light power is immense and so if you are getting into your bass fishing journey and you've thrown a lot of the same style of lures so the same Texas rigs the same little top water poppers and jigs it is time I'm telling you to master finesse fishing as our bodies of water I'm talking about ponds Lake like we have behind me in the bass boat and the kayak as they get more and more fishermen on them our bass are getting smarter and smarter and so especially during high pressure times of the year and when the fishing just gets tough because of the weather you want to go to finesse tactics and I think every angler should have a finesse only Rod combo and that is why I put it at number three because I think it's so dang important so here we have the uh 69 medium light again 2 to 3 in either way I think if you're fishing from the bank you want a a little bit longer Rod because you don't have as much leverage as I do in a bass boat or in a kayak and so again 69 7 7'2 again medium light is the power that I would say and this here is a fast action any action around fast to extra fast on your medium lights is preferred and I'm just I feel like I'm beating a dead horse sometimes if you do not have finesse fishing mastered you cannot call yourself a good angler every great angler out there knows how to fish a finesse combo well and so does it have to be a drop shot only combo no you can throw wacky rigs you can throw Nik rigs you can throw Ned Rigs and shaky heads that is all good on a finesse combo I'm just saying every single angler needs one and if you followed my really any Series Hunter pawns uncut my bassboat stuff you've noticed that I use a spinning combo specifically a medium light almost all the time because it's a fish catcher it's a skunk Buster you need this combo in your life so let's put Combo Number Three to the side and talk about Combo Number Four that I think every bass angler should own and that is a 7t 3 medium heavy bait caster D son holy cow wa get in here now the reason why this combo is coming in at number four and not earlier in my list is because I value finesse fishing from the majority of Anglers out there if you're just beginning finesse is more important in my opinion in my experience than bigger lure so bigger top waterers top water frogs and big Jigs and dragging a big worm around and maybe a 5 bait sounds vibrating jig a big spinner bait across the bottom those are all great lures to catch fish on and you should experiment with those techniques but I just think finesse is a little more important so that's why 73 medium heavy lands at number four now I made an entire video talking about why a 73 medium heavy is the perfect all-around top water rod and that is because I fish a lot of really grassy shallow bodies of water and so the top water frog is my top water of choice I would say 75% of the time in both ponds and lakes and a 73 medium heavy is I wouldn't say the perfect rod for it this one here actually has a frog we'll talk about that here in a second at number five but this one can throw Buzz baits and top water walking baits and top water frogs and like I mentioned it can also throw well kind of the more challenging lures to fish if you're just beginning the top water frogs the uh heavier vibrating Jigs and spinner baits and dragging a big warm around skipping a jig underneath laydowns and having the actual power again the medium heavy of the rod to get a fish out of heavy cover that is all stuff that as a bass fisherman you will eventually experience but you just don't have to get there right away that is why this combo sits at number four I've got the brand new lse custom I don't think it's even out to the public yet but I will list some of my other favorite bake casting reels down below and this is the team lose Signature Series it is my favorite 73 medium heavy rod for just all around underwater fishing when it comes to the top water I like the mo 2 combo which I've used in that video talking about all top Waters I will leave that combo listed down below that is Rod Combo Number Four that every angler should own now for number five we have a little bit of a dealer's choice and that is you can kind of pick whatever Rod combo you want for me that is a 74 heavy holy cow that was so cool that was so cool oh my gosh now like I just said it is a little bit of your personal preference what your fifth Rod combo should be and you know what if you want to stop at four if that's enough for you go for it I just feel like there's a few technique specific things that maybe you on your bodies of water really want to be even more efficient at and the rod combos I mentioned all kind of being allpurpose General stuff don't really fit to be best suited for that so specifically I'm talking about top waterer fishing I fish a top water frog this here is the Strike King Popp and Pad perch I fish this top water in some absolutely nasty shallow water stuff I'm talking laydowns and skipping it underneath docks that have the nastiest poles uh over sloppy grass that is just super thick and so can a 73 medium heavy work for that yes it can but a 74 heavy I've talked about it before I think it's a rod that every bass angler should own because if you want to get into throwing swimbaits like Glide baits even the uh the 5 six inch soft swimbaits with the trailer the the uh the treble hook on the bottom kind of that pre-rigged swimbait all of that is best in my opinion on a 74 heavy power Rod I believe it's a heavy fast action this here's the lose custom like the brand new rod and my favorite reel for what I call again this bigger style of bass fishing the more bulky the more inyour face heavy cover stuff is the lose tournament Pro and I've actually got the big uh big handle knobs put here on on the handle and I have 50 or 65lb braid on this thing again that is my preference for the bodies of water that I fish if I was to fish ponds in Dallas Fort Worth where I live I would pick up those four rods and then finally I would pick up this Rod right here now if you fish a lot of really clear bodies of water and you want to fish swimbaits more or you want to fish uh um lipless crankbaits or maybe a suspending jerk bait maybe a square Bill Rod is good for you or maybe a jerk bait Rod is good for you I think Rod number five in your bass fishing Journey should be something that's a little more technique specific or fits a mold of something you don't yet currently have so is Rod number five a 74 heavy power for me it is but for you it might not and so I feel like by the time it's time to buy your fifth combo which I really think is the max number of combos you really need to be a fully efficient bass angler I think you know by that point which Rod you need and if you don't the comment section is open down below as well as my email Tyler realfishing gmail.com and my Instagram I try to respond to as many messages as I can and so
