Understanding the Principles of Flight

📘 1. Properties of Air * Air has mass – it weighs something. * Air takes up space – it's all around us. * Air exerts pressure – it pushes on things. * Air is compressible – it can be squeezed into a smaller space. 🧪 These properties are essential for flight to occur. ________________ 📘 2. The Four Forces of Flight Force Direction What It Does Lift Upward Pushes the object up against gravity. Weight Downward The force of gravity pulling the object down. Thrust Forward The push that moves the object forward. Drag Backward Air resistance that slows the object down. 🔁 Balanced forces = smooth, level flight. ________________ 📘 3. Bernoulli’s Principle * Fast-moving air = low pressure * Slow-moving air = high pressure * Airplane wings are curved on top → air moves faster over top → lower pressure above * Higher pressure underneath lifts the plane = lift force
