Setting Up a GoDaddy Domain with Google Workspace

Overview

  • Linking GoDaddy domain with Google Workspace

Steps to Set Up Domain and DNS Records

Log in to Accounts

  • Log into both GoDaddy and Google Admin Console

Accessing Domains

  • From Google Admin Console homepage, access domains via "Account" > "Domains" > "Manage Domains"
  • Verified domains show Gmail activation (indicates MX records added)

Manage DNS in GoDaddy

  • Go to GoDaddy > Log in > Manage DNS for the specific domain

Adding Domain to Google Workspace

  1. Copy the domain name to Google
  2. Click on "Add Domain"
  3. Paste domain name
  4. Select "Secondary Domain" type
  5. Click "Add Domain and Start Verification"
  6. Google prompt to log into GoDaddy to connect and verify domain (may take a few minutes)

Activating Gmail & Creating MX Records

  1. Back in Google Admin Console, activate Gmail
  2. Create MX records in GoDaddy domain DNS

Additional DNS Records

SPF Records and Activation

  • Google creates SPF records automatically
  • Check DNS records to ensure no duplicate SPF records
  • Retain only one correct SPF record

Setting Up DKIM Records

  1. Go to Google Admin Console > Apps > Gmail
  2. Select domain > Generate DKIM string data
  3. Choose record length (e.g., 2048)
  4. Copy generated domain key
  5. Create new TXT record in GoDaddy
    • Type: TXT
    • Name: Google domain key
    • Value: Paste domain key
  6. Add record
  7. Wait for data to update
  8. Start DKIM authentication once updated

Setting Up DMARC Records

  1. Ensure all previous records (SPF, DKIM) are in place
  2. Check for duplicate SPF records and delete excess
  3. Create new DMARC record in GoDaddy
    • Type: TXT
    • Name: DMARC
    • Value: (from help article)
    • TTL: Set to 1 hour
    • Replace placeholder email with actual email address for receiving reports
  4. Add record

Final Steps

  • Return to Google Workspace
  • Create users for the domain
  • Connect users to Google Workspace and start using email services
