Exploring Jesus in Third Nephi

hi everyone I'm Dave Butler I'm Grace Freeman welcome to don't miss this scripture study class all together yeah so happy that you're here um we're in a really really exciting part of the Book of Mormon I feel like I don't even know if this on camera but as I started walking I went you can't wait you're doing a cheer I really I don't know why I did it but so just in case you saw it I don't know why it happened I'm just kind of excusing myself for just a minute but um in the book of we move through the Book of Mormon this year week by week following the come follow me schedule and point out things that we think you don't want to miss hopefully it's inspiring first of all um and second of all hopefully it kind of help you um in teaching and thinking and studying um the scriptures and learning more as as you're going through them also so uh I forgot to point these out last Point these out to show you this last week so we started a new book last week which is third Nei so uh your tippins if you didn't glue in your tippins if you didn't at the beginning of the year slide those into the beginning of third Nephi um these are at Desert book If you ever any time in the year want to get them I think they still have them um PS you can't even wait until next year's Tippin I can't even talk about them right now but just prepare uh just write a will I was thinking when you when I just looked at it said y That's the End write your will because you might die of happiness for them I think it's our best thing we've done so far but um so but put this in third fight 11 kind of remember turn your scriptures into like a study book so we're on this book which is so awesome and and in what the introduction calls like the golden moment I can't remember what they call this moment in the Book of Mormon the Pinnacle yeah the Pinnacle is what they say moment in the Book of Mormon where you get Jesus's Ministry it starts in third Nephi 11 and goes all the way to the end of third Nephi so we're super excited to jump into that today um we've seen the hand of the Lord all throughout the book and and we remember we've been keeping track of like the mercies of the Lord and learning about his character and then I just think this is it's just awesome to then have him come in person and be really clear about who he is and um what his intentions are uh the nature of his heart and just to watch him interact with with people it's a it's an answer to John you know at the end of The Book of John when he says um man he almost like is wishing for one more story of Jesus and and I feel like what some people call third Nephi um the fourth gospel fifth we have four we have yeah the Fifth Gospel and just more stories about who he is and his personal teaching so we're super excited to jump in to this one um all right we're starting in chapter eight which is a little bit uh scary to be honest um and you read this and it really does make you think like there are sometimes in life where you're just like man is is God actually good can I trust him um is he the god I find in the tender parts of scripture because chapter8 is a is a destruction chapter and and and there is a lot that's uh happening in these chapters where you're like oh my gosh and God is the one the Lord himself says I destroyed this city I destroyed that city um and and kind of places that are left desolate and you're a little bit it's a little bit intense uh as you read it and you're and God seems a little bit scary and we talked about this a couple weeks ago but I just want to bring it up again right here um a couple things to think about when you get the spots in scripture about the Judgment of God one is the Judgment of God shows the heart of God um if you've ever been in a circumstance anybody who just has a problem with the Judgment of God has probably never been to a war torn country they've never seen um the dark part of humanity um and and uh and you want God to be a god of judgment you want him to write the things that are wrong you don't want him to brush the horrible things that happen in this world under the rug a couple chapters ago pregnant women were being trampled by you know vicious enemies and you're like hold on we don't want God to just say like oh no worries about something like that like there needs to be like a response to things it makes him loving to not just say like oh I he's addressing he keeps saying I'm add dressing the blood of the Innocents that are calling from the dust right and so you you are I I think that's really important to remember as you're he didn't he didn't just show up like this it's not like it was like uncalled for right that's not right yeah it's in response exactly it's in response too um and then you'll also find in just a minute how often he has called for some other way for a rescue from your own uh from your own sin your own sin is causing chaos it's almost as if the Earth is responding to the chaos of the soul and I think this is happening literally it might be poetry it might be metaphor and so we want to be you know we don't know we don't want to make wrong assumptions about who God is in reading this story and something that can help us with that is what we see and what we hear from him in the next couple chapters so you'll read eight first but you almost kind of need to read 9 10 and 11 and then go back and read8 and remember oh this is the same God of judgment we find in 8 is the God we see in 9 10 and 11 and make sure you're seeing him through that lens make sure you're seeing him through the lens of the of the God who sacrificed himself on the cross to rescue and redeem and save all of mankind like that's that's who it is and I kind of noticed something in chapter 8 and I don't know if this is intentional or not but it's interesting that like water Wind and Fire are sort of the methods of Destruction that you're seeing in those and those are also the same if you look in the Book of Revelation and the and the PE of great price those are the elements of of sanctification and so you start to maybe wonder if oh what's happening here um this like you do in a forest a fire is used for regrowth right there's something that's happening first that the intention of all of this remember is Restoration in the end so that water spirit Blood Fire are all sanctification words and I don't know if that's on purpose but I do know that is something about the nature of God that judgment and destruction their only purpose is Restoration in the end which is so promising that even in destruction God saying that is never the end of the story right when you see destruction don't think that I am finished working I am just getting started that's step one to him coming right is figuring out everything and saying okay we might need a fresh plate right now like we might need a little restart right this is the beginning of the story not the end I think sometimes we get confused because we think oh he's coming this is the very end and it's like wait wait wait no no no this is the beginning part of him coming yeah which if you if you if you are an observer or aware of the terrible things that are happening among Humanity you want chapter 8 to be the end right good it's actually deserved by people so the fact that it's not the end is wildly and unfairly merciful of him like you're just like whoa why it's almost like you it almost goes to the flip other side where you're just like I don't want him to be that good yes to Sinners I don't want him to be merciful and is that the gospel all the way through right so let's take a look in as you're reading eight maybe read 9 10 and 11 first or at least look back on eight with what you learn about God in 9 10 and 11 and so Grace's going to teach a little bit in nine and then I'll share some in 10 well and I think it's very much my personality when I read that I am going to imagine that I am in the story it does not matter if I'm reading Harry Potter or the scriptures that is just how I that's just how I do stories is that I am just going to imagine my imagination works like that and I think that maybe you're the same way that when I grew up reading this I imagined myself there and I know who I imagined myself to be and it was the insecurities in me deciding what what my fate was I can tell you that much 100% And it's so interesting because at the end of chapter at the very beginning of chapter 8 in the like intro to the chapter it's so interesting to me that it says Those Who Remain because even when I read that like in my head I'm like not a chance it would have been me like I'm like those who remain seem so limited that I think no matter what when I read it when I heard these stories I just qualified myself and I said there's no way I am good enough for that and honestly it wasn't even until this time reading the other day when I read in chapter 9 and um the darkness come there's three days of darkness when Jesus dies and doesn't that just make perfect sense that is just seemingly to match the story which I think is a side topic but I love that God knows how to tell a good story and that it's consistent his story stays consistent no matter where in the world he's telling it he's really good at telling the story yeah that the birth brought light and his death brought Darkness 100% yeah and um in the middle of the darkness the voice of the Lord shows up and he starts speaking to this people and um starting in verse number 13 he starts speaking to the people that survived and they had just witnessed this death and destruction and the fire and the water and the wind and so many things that all of us like I think inherently when we grew up that's what we focused on for the coming of Jesus in The Book of Mormon and sometimes we do that with the second coming same thing that we focus on all of the destruction and do you know what's interesting I forgot about this is back in and it kind of goes what you're saying the at the end of chapter 8 and 24 those who were there said oh that we had repented I wish you know so it's sometimes like I look at this and I'm like oh he's super harsh and then it's interesting that the ones it was happening to were the ones saying oh we deserve this yeah like we we we knew you know what I mean like they're looking around and saying this really is a mess yeah this really is a mess we brought this on ourselves yeah you know yeah we could have S done something different yeah and what happens is the voice of the Lord starts speaking and verse number 13 and chapter 9 and this is what it says this is his invitation to these people oh all ye that are spared because you were more righteous than they and sometimes that's what we remember we put the period in the sentence right there oh the ones that were more righteous were spared and then in our heads when we read it we think who's more righteous than me and we make a list and then it's never us we're not getting spared and then we're so scared of what's about to happen um but you can stop the verse right there because that's not where Jesus ended his sentence and he continues and he says will ye not now return unto me and repent of your sins and be converted that I may heal you the people were spared had not even yet been converted you want to talk about a people that needed a second chance and you're like wait why did God why did God destroy all of that why did he destroy them wait wait wait like the people that were spared weren't even converted yet they were not sold on this they still needed to return to him that's such a repentant word and it even says the word repent of your sins they they were not already repented right like they were not already clean they still needed Jesus they were not perfect people they were not doing everything exactly right they still needed their moment of conversion it is not that Jesus was unjust it's the fact that Jesus looked and he said I will be merciful you don't need to disqualify yourself from this because you're not perfect he is there to save the imperfect people and I love that he says listen all you've got to do is come to me you've just seen what is happening in the earth and all I need you to do is return to me and then in verse number 20 he keeps talking and he says listen everything you've known is going to be different and the laws and the way you behave and like all of the things that you know to be true about your relationship with divinity is now going to be flipped the law has been fulfilled you're going to do things different than you ever have and let me tell you where that begins he says you will offer a sacrifice unto me a broken heart and a contrite spirit and I wonder if he looked around at that group and they looked at each other and they said wait a minute that's exactly what we have after what we've just gone through we are brokenhearted people with contrite spirits and I love that Jesus said your path to righteousness your path to being converted your path to turning back to me starts exactly where you are mhm right here in the middle of the mess when you still realize and look around and say I do not know if I'm supposed to be here he looks and said no no no no don't worry your conversion starts exactly where you are brokenhearted contrite spirit after everything you've just went to went through this is where our relationship begins and it reminds me of Elder uorf said that in conference maybe a couple years ago I don't even remember when he said like the path wait what did he even say something like that that the path to discipleship starts exactly where you are right now yeah and isn't that true that that's true for them too well and it's interesting that not even exactly where they are but it started in a broken place and it started in a contrite place you know that was brought about by their mistakes and the way that they were living and it it's interesting that like that is where their discipleship begins that's where their relationship begins is in it reminds me of Eve's statement when she leaves the garden where not for our transgression we never would have gotten here you know and God is using their mistakes because of Jesus Christ like their bad decisions don't have to be damning but they can be developmental like he can take even their bad decisions and use them as a starting point for a path to eternal life 100% and and and and we think our Brokenness is is a is a um flaw yeah or or like Hance yeah hindrance yeah that's what I was looking for and I was like oh your Brokenness is not a hindrance it's actually the starting point for your relationship with God I was I was reading our friend Katie hughes's son's letter from his mission and he talked about his he's just there speaking Spanish in Mexico broken Spanish and like a feels like a a um an unsatisfactory missionary like I'm not I'm not the person I should be and um tells a story of in in that like um in insufficient and Brokenness he Bears his witness and he watches this woman in the house just just weep and and a response says I want to have a relationship with God and he just writes like after that and says like God used that insufficiency and Brokenness to reach someone and it it really is powerful that it's just like oh you thought that your Brokenness was hindering the work when in reality God needed your Brokenness to do his work and that's that's just a beautiful you expected him to need Perfection and in reality he just needed square one yeah which is awesome now add to that add to that so many verses in chapter nine that you're going to like this would be a great study to say teach me about the character of God what am I learning about him add to that chapter two because in it he he chapter 10 he mean and by two I mean 10 two times five is why you didn't let me finish right um oh and don't forget that last verse of nine where he just says for I have laid down my life so that all the ends of the Earth could be saved there is not a person on this world I don't want to save so everything I do including laying down my own life was so that every person in chapter8 may eventually be saved and all of you who are spared in chapter nine may be saved that's what I'm trying to do and he says in chapter 10 or 5 time 2 whatever you want to say 2 * 5 right where he just says how often verse four have I gathered you like a hen gathered her chicken under her wings and have nourished you and five again I like Circle that word again how of would I have gathered you as a k gather her house how and and don't you like that that how of have I how of would I have right there's just so many tenses there that he is using and he says how of in in verse six will I will I future tense gather you as a hand gather her chickens under her wings right I have I would have I am I will are all of those circles all those words and then in seven Circle this but if not but even if none of you will I'm going to come back again and fulfill the Covenant I made your fathers I'm willing to fulfill my promises right now but even if none of you say yes I'm going to try again in a future generation so that all the Earth may eventually be saved and I just think there's something really really power about that but if not even if you don't I'm not giving up on you even if you say no thank you or even if you exclude the thank you I'm not done so this is what we're learning about who he is in nine and 10 and use those chapters we just pointed out a few as a study of what do I learn about the heart and character of of merciful Jesus from chapters 9 and 10 okay now we actually get to see him right he's coming and and Mormon gives us the intro at the end of of of chapter 10 to it where he's just like oh get ready for great favors and get ready for great blessings that are about to come that's the cutest thing in my good he is given a drum roll he can't even wait right as he's about to etch this into the place and excuse that don't we want to write that on our mirror great blessings poured out upon their heads so good now chapter 11 we're calling this one seeing Jesus because it is so hard sometimes to see Jesus right to see him in the world that we that we live live in um to see him in in the circumstances that we find ourselves in and we learn a pattern I don't know you know it's not a math equation everybody it's principles I guess in chapter 11 about what what if I'm trying to see more of Jesus in my life and or in the lives of people that I love here I think there's some things that we can learn in here verse one spend more time marveling and wondering those are those open our eyes to to see them Marvel at what he's done Wonder at his at his goodness let his love like have work in your heart and and soul um where do they start two Converse about him more gather together share it uh over texts online in person in a journal share more about Jesus and particularly about the great change that he brings about in people's life right spend more time um doing that um then they hear this voice and it comes out of heaven right um and I and it might be worth saying here that they're gathered around the temple the Bountiful right so that seems to be a pattern in Jesus's life right yeah when uh when Mary can't find him where she eventually find him in the temple when they you know here in 3i 11 there's something about that that's neat too uh and they hear this voice and it's this small silent voice but it still like pierces them to the soul and and and they didn't understand it verse four I love this part the voice of the father is speaking to them and and they don't understand it which is even cuter when you think that like they were just still working on their conversion for real just one chapter before like they're just still trying to figure this whole thing out yeah and I do love that it's going to come three more times because because God's a God who keeps trying and he's a God who keeps reaching out and uh and he doesn't say like well you should have been paying attention you know but he just like oh did you miss it let me say it again oh did you miss it I'll say it one more time right and and and there's something about his character that's worth mentioning again and again and that's what everyone on Earth should be teaching their kids right now is that we hear so much like hear him hear him hear him that's such a Focus right now as it should be because hearing the voice of the Lord changes everything but I think sometimes we get so scared of like oh I missed it I'm not sure that I've ever heard it I don't know if I've ever felt the spirit before and maybe that's a good place to teach your kids oh don't worry yeah if you're not understanding it right now she's not giving up he's going to try again he's going to try again um in fact had this cross reference from chapter n a verse the at the end of that we were in oh my gosh David speak English okay for the for the people of God speak English Okay chapter 9: 20 at the end of it he talks about the lamanites and he was like there there because of their faith in me at the time of their baptism they were baptized with fire and the Holy Ghost and they knew it not I love that add that reference in when you're teaching this because and and have patience with yourself and others it was like they were being baptized with the Holy Spirit and they didn't even know it was happening like that gives me so much I don't see God right now that's okay I don't understand what he's doing that's okay because he's doing things right now that you don't even know he's doing and one day you'll be made aware and and that's what's happening at the beginning of Le and but there's more of a pattern they open their ears to hear it and their eyes towards it and they look steadfastly look at that pattern in five of those things that are being taught there right where it's like oh because it's actually really easy to live in this world and not see him and hear him and for him to pass right by we kind of have to be a little bit deliberate about that open up your eyes to see him because it's possible to miss him open up your ears because you could not here and I just think there's a great pattern there with lots you could learn in there and talk about in in um see learning to see Jesus when it feels difficult 100% um then after that it almost feels like Jesus's first impression and that's what we're calling this little next section oh and we forgot about this no but I think this is awesome this comes right this is our word of the week right here because then he is going to come and our word is to behold right and that word behold is it feels richer than the word to see so this is the word that the Lord uses in seven behold my beloved Son right um with your whole heart C like just stop pause what you're doing and will you with your eyes ears and heart like just look will you just look at at this picture I'm going to show you of him the dictionary definition that we have on here to fix your eyes to see with attention or to observe with care even that word hold is in the word right so make space hold it for a second and discover what it is that you see because I think the next several verses are are it's his first impression it's a description of who he of who he is it's almost like the father's like will you just pause and pay attention to this scene that's about to happen because there some things here that he's going to say and that he's going to do that I want you to hold and give space for because it's going to teach you about who he is and I think it's so beautiful because for me the word behold feels like an invitation into an experience he said this is not just something to look at really quick this is something to be experienced it's not a look and glance away it is a moment to pause in and really experience and I think it's so precious that um Heavenly father's voice spoke first and said I'm gonna give you an introduction let me be the one that introduces my son to my kids let me be the mediator and what I think is so powerful is that um they're standing there and he's going to give this intro of this is my son this is my son and I need you to meet him and to the group of people that he was talking to and the group of people that had just lived through 3 days of darkness which even if they knew that was going to end after a day and a half they were probably bored out of their minds and let's also remember that they didn't have a light switch to bring light back into their day like it wasn't like they could just be like well let's go inside it's going to feel brighter in there like yeah light some candles but it's just like this was a different world Darkness but they couldn't even light candles remember you go back and like they tried and there was nothing no fire no sparks no sun no moon no stars no reflection consumed everything in dark nothing in front of your face right yeah like it was just absolutely taking over which even if you knew that was going to end that would have been so scary that would have been absolutely terrifying to have just experienced not to mention the fact that in all reality they had just been surrounded by death and looking around and there would have been evidence of death everywhere for these people and now all of a sudden this voice is coming from heaven and they're hearing God speak and then it's just Jesus and his first impression and I bet that they were holding their breath wondering what he was going to tell them they had just gone through so so much what on Earth would he say and first impressions everyone always talks about how important they are how important like the first 15 minutes you have with someone is how like that determines what they are and who they are to you and I just don't think Jesus would have chosen his words lightly yeah he would have been very very specific and he would have known what they needed to hear and I think that what he says at the very beginning is a testament to that because he stretches forth his hand in verse number nine and in verse 10 he says I am Jesus Christ the one you've heard about the ones that prophets have spoken about who will come into the world it is me and in verse 11 and behold I am the light and the life of the world words spoken to people who had been living in darkness surrounded by death he said I am light in life exactly what you need I showed up as exactly what you need and isn't that the truth about how Jesus will show up in our lives that he will show up specifically and intimately as exactly who we need him to be and when we're suffering through Darkness he will show up as light and when we're absolutely surrounded by death and grieving he will show up as life and maybe in the moments that we are living in anxiety and fear he will show up as the prince of peace and I wonder and maybe this would be a cool lesson is if you sat down and you had everyone write down what they were going through and then said let's flip to the Bible dictionary to where it lists all of the names of Jesus is that in the Bible dictionary did I just that up yes this is so awesome um and it has a list of them and to go through and to just have them choose who they need Jesus to show up as because if third Nephi 11 evidence of anything is that Jesus will show up as exactly who you need him to be yeah and as he keeps teaching I drank the bitter cup the father gave me I suffered the will of the father this is a people who've experienced bitterness and suffering and he's one coming in empathy to say like I've I have felt that before too right I I drank the bitter cup and I suffered so that your bitterness and your suffering don't have to be forever the father is good and what he allows to happen and what he does it the the end is going to be good right and even not what he says but there's a lot in here this is the study we would do 7 through 15 and say what does he say and what does he do that teaches you about him because even and why would he want you to know that first right right your first impression why would he want this to be his first your first impression of him yeah because even before words in verse 8 for example he he descends he comes down he doesn't stay in heaven he comes down to to the mess he comes down to the destru to the crumbling that's there it didn't it didn't get put back together nicely yet and he says no no no no don't get it ready for me that's the reason I'm coming so that we can do that together right he came down and he stood in the midst of them I'm going to be here among you verse 9 he stretches his hand out what's the message there right and that stretching of the hand um and then and then those words U that the prophets testified should come into the world promisee keeper right and then he says this arise verse 14 they've fallen down to the ground right and then he says arise um there's there there's so much about Jesus that we learned from that word he says I came to lift you lift up your head have hope um have have faith and then come forth and come I bet you all think oh my gosh we shouldn't even be here no one's rushing up to him probably because they're thinking oh I don't deserve I don't deserve this and so there's something from him where Jesus has to say to people who feel like they don't deserve it come here and I want you to uh feel my side and the prince of Nails in my hands in my feet that you may know that I was I was slain for the sins of the whole world this come feel the evidence of your forgiveness come feel the evidence of the beginning of your new story and then this part in 15 that you know of that they did and they came forth one by one and that that's a part of his character we talk a lot about but that we should say again and again and not forget that he knows every single person's circumstances he knows every single person's pasts he knows the parents who raised you he knows the experience that happened to you unfairly he knows the details of why you are the way that you are the struggles that you have and where they came from even Generations past and one by one he's he's he's going he's he doesn't have a one um One Stop approach to Salvation to Redemption and to relationship with him come forth unto me all of your experiences will be different and finding me and coming forth unto me all your salvation stories will be very individualized to who you are um I think it's so interesting that everyone always talks about like in my head I wonder if they didn't know what their relationship with him should be like and maybe if they should worship him like a king or what or should they walk away or should they bow down in reverence and I wonder if there was like almost a hesitancy of what type of relationship do we have with you and then he said oh no come right up by me one by one each person individually because I do not have a general relationship with a group of people but he is the type of person that has an individual relationship with every single one and we always hear that phrase of like if you love someone show them and I don't doubt that Jesus would have told every single person there that he loved them but I love that rather than that he said let me show you how much I love you and then held out his hands full of scars and said you want the evidence of my love let me show you what our relationship is it was worth my entire life that's how much I love you one lifetime full and they all go up one by one which is just the most you want to cry even just thinking about it and I am sure they did I'm sure they wept but what happens and and there's something really neat too let me just throw this in too about that line I want to put them together verse 14 I'm the god of the whole world and was slain for the sins of the whole world and oneon-one at the same time right those two together cuz it would have felt so big when they he said that yeah and and almost as if to say none of you are excluded now let me show you how included you each are yeah one at a time I'm not too busy for you just because I'm the whole God of Israel right don't worry come on up every single one of you I will be here as long as I need to be and then it describes their experience and he said until they had all gone forth this is verse 15 and did see don't you love that word until I want to to I that don't lose that in this character yeah right I'm not done I'm not finished until you have all come forth until everyone's had a chance oh my gosh the fact that he would have been there forever yeah if he had to have been and did see with their eyes and did fill with their hands and did know of assurity and did Bear record that it was he the Jesus Christ said they had heard about their entire lives and I just think that maybe those three words are some that we should forget that that oneon-one individual relationship with him is built by seeing and feeling and knowing and that just because maybe Jesus isn't showing up here physically and inviting us to come and physically fill the scars in his hands um there's a doubt in my mind that that invitation to come one by one unto him and to see and to feel and to know is not still present for us right there this very second yeah and in the moments when we feel like he's a general God the god of the whole entire world and maybe it feels like he has a relationship with the world but not us I cannot help but know of assurity that he would say the same thing oh you come and get to know me one on-one and you look and see what I show you and you feel what I will put in your heart and you know who I am and that's what the worksheet is this week is to see feel experience and know and maybe you just want to sit down at some point this week and you just want to write down maybe you want to look big picture back in your life and you want to say okay when have I seen him show up in my life when have I felt him and what does he feel like to me when have I experienced my relationship with him growing when I when have I experienced feeling and knowing that he really did suffer for me and when did I know what do I know about him when did I know that he was real for me what are my evidences of that um or maybe it would be cool to start this week fresh and especially if you're the type of person that's like wait I actually don't know if I have that type of relationship with him and maybe that seems overwhelming and you're like I can't look back on my life and make a full list of all the times that I felt him show up maybe you want to put this somewhere that you can see and start every day and say can I see you a little bit more today could I feel you a little bit more today could I experience life with you a little bit today could I know something about you that I didn't know before today and start making your list of just how you build that one-on-one relationship with him this week alone and maybe another idea too is to have conversations with people and this is okay if you feel like I haven't seen and felt an experience for myself to hear what how have other people what's that been like because maybe I maybe it's happening I didn't know like the lamanites from chapter 9 verse 20 and or or maybe there's um certain patterns of living or or principles that would help me experience that in in my life what we know is how important it is to him and how important it is to us for verse 16 to witness for ourselves that this is a part of our faith journey is to have individual experiences with the god of Israel like it's it's a we want to talk about them we want to think about them anticipate them and and and have them for ourselves I forgot to mention our tender Mercy is this one by one that on both he wants a one-on-one relationship with us and we our faith requires individual experiences with him as well we they were experence by feeling the prince they were experiencing his atoning sacrifice for themselves and I can through forgiveness and I can through healing and I can through encouragement and imp empowerment I can through IND feeling individualized love and tenderness we that they're experiencing the atonement of Jesus Christ for themselves the love of the father made manifest so interesting in this scene that they all fall down it says in 17 hosana blessed be the name of the most high God and they fall down at the feet of Jesus just like Lehi saw in Vision at the tree when those who tasted of the fruit and fell down at the tree perhaps it was this moment and ones like it that he's seen like people tasted of the love of God for themselves and they and they fell down before him and they kissed his feet anyone who has a a verse 17 experience has had a verse 15 experience already which is why they're able to cry out in that in that praise to him um I think there's part of me every time I read this chapter that feels so jealous and I feel so sad that I've never been able to experience it and I just want to so so bad and I love in verse 21 that it almost is an invitation to all of us because he's going to go through and he's the Lord says I'm going to give unto you a power that you will baptize this people when I am again ascended into heaven there was going to come a moment when Jesus had to leave these people and it was going to be heartbreaking and we're going to get that to another day and they're not going to want him to leave but he's going to have to he's going to have to leave and to him leaving had to have been heartbreaking and it was and we read about that but also he said I am not gone for good and I'm going to give you power on this Earth that will make me feel closer even when I seem far away and that was the power of covenants he said that's what you need when you need me to feel close by don't worry that's a covenant relationship you can keep this one-on-one relationship that you just formed with me in verse 15 for the rest of your life even when I am far off this Earth do not worry because of the covenants which you have made and I just think that makes me so excited about a covenant relationship because the part of me that gets so jealous about not having this experience with Jesus like that verse reminds me that I am experiencing that that's what my covenants are that's why I love them and cherish them yeah and even that remember that word atonement is not so much we use it as an event and the word is actually meant to be the end goal this is the Hope is an at onement and he mentions that several times that we might be at one with each other like the father and the spirit and I are one this is my hope that we might be together in this Oneness not just us the godhead and you but all of you together which is why there's this beautiful message from him I love that Jesus's message when he comes is is twofold one we can have a one-on-one relationship and the doctrine of Christ might be the pattern in how to do that I was just realizing that was like teaching cool he says faith in me trust me turn to me enter into a official Covenant relationship with me and and let that relationship right the doctrine of Christ the gospel of Christ is like the pattern for how to do that which is really awesome and let me give you the power to do it and then I just love that simply as other one is and be nice right I'm I don't want disputations contentions of the devil isn't that this is crazy right this is the Pinnacle scene here and of course he would mention the gospel and doctrine of Christ and how to enter into relationship with him and how to experience the atonement of Christ that's what he's teaching and then also he teaches and can you please get along with each other you know you're like what are you going to say when you have your your starting message is going to be what and is going to say please be kind and don't fight and stop like even over Church stuff he was like y'all are fighting over Church stuff well and isn't this the most consistent message for him of all time that at the at the very beginning he says what do I need you to know I need you to know how to love God and I need you to know how to love people amen that's so beautiful that we may all be one come into the kingdom a synonym of kingdom is family come into the family all of us all together that we may be one an at onement for all of us it's it's it's why I died on the cross is so that this and everything else I've done is so that this could be about we could bring this about so so beautiful all right y'all so much more good stuff to come because Jesus is here you know oh we can't wait soy see you next week
