my goal with this video is simple i want you to walk away finally understanding the four quadrants of the abdominal area right here i want you to walk away knowing this cold here we go [Music] hey everyone it's the paramedic coach here and i am fired up and excited to deliver this lesson to you today if you're new here smash that like button down below hit the subscribe button and tap that notification bell to get more videos just like this well any further ado i'm gonna deliver to you right now the four quadrants let's go so here's what we have here okay and you gotta know i'm gonna step in here okay the abdominal region is split up when we learn in emt school here in the four quadrants okay we got to understand this to understand our patients if i have pain here what does that mean if i have pain here what does that mean so first let's identify what's going on in the four quadrants okay let's do that so here we have the right upper quadrant now real quick while i'm going through this i'm going to tell you something to remember so this is how you learn things in medicine you got to give yourself mental tricks mental shortcuts to understand this you could just jot notes down here and remember it but i'm gonna give you tricks to remember this cold so right upper quadrant the liver is best friends with the gall bladder from now on if i go i got pain right here in the right upper quadrant what do you think of the liver is best friends with the gallbladder right okay so liver and gold bladder live in the right upper quadrant the liver is giant actually kind of goes like this even going into the left upper a little bit but the majority of the liver is in the right upper quadrant okay now what do we got here whoa the transverse colon transverse well we have a piece of colon that goes right across here okay the colon kind of goes ascending going up ascending transverse descending and then we have sigmoid and we're out okay so transverse colon slides across here okay now the left upper quadrant how do we remember that there's two s's in the left upper quadrant how many there's two s's in the left upper quadrant stomach and spleen they are best friends the stomach and spleen because they both start with s okay so stomach spleen and we got our friend the pancreas the pancreas kind of slides between both but the majority if you're taking an exam is left upper quadrant is pancreas okay and that transverse colon slides across now you're probably wondering evan you got s i right in the middle of this what's si what's that stand for small intestine it's a circle here for you to remember what's right in the middle of these four quadrants but i go right in the middle if i said to you right now what's right in the middle of all the four quadrants right in the center of your abdominal cavity it's a small intestine it's gonna hit all of the quadrants your small intestine okay so i got started there in the middle so you never forget okay now the right lower quadrant what is the thing we're going to remember that piece of information the right lower quadrant is appendicitis land okay i'll say it again the right lower quadrant is appendicitis land if i have pain in the right lower quadrant the first thing i'm thinking about is appendicitis but i'm not going to get tunnel vision i'm going to think about this as well what else lies in here the right ovary the right fallopian tube and like i said earlier the ascending colon ascending is up descending over here other side down okay so there's that now obviously you're the ovaries and the fallopian tubes there's a female patient okay now we're slide over the left lower quadrant what do we know about the left lower quadrant how do we remember pain over here on the left lower quadrant diverticulitis this is diverticulitis land when a patient has diverticulitis they flares up i got pain over here that's how i remember it and where is that at most commonly the old sigmoid colon is where it's going to be okay the old sigmoid it's gonna cut around there and those little pockets are gonna get infected in that sigmoid colon the descending colon slides down the sigmoid colon loops in and we're out okay rectum through the midline okay and then we have the ovary left and the fallopian tubes of course only if you don't female patient okay small intestine in the middle and there it is folks that is the four quadrants now before i go i'm going to put on the screen right here your tips to remember your rules to live by so you remember so you remember this cold now here it is remember let me get out of the way here remember the right upper quadrant liver and gallbladder are best friends right upper quadrant left upper quadrant there's two s's that are friends stomach and spleen that's how you remember that okay transverse slides across both pancreas right there okay what else the middle small intestine transverse we're going across okay down here what we got here that's appendicitis land hey what about over here diverticulitis land that's how you remember this for the rest of your life and you will get it cold and get it down on exam day if you're one of these three people if you are somebody who is getting ready for emt school advanced emt or paramedic school the schooling is very accelerated i believe the reason why students fail of class is not because they don't study and not because they don't try hard enough it's because they do not prepare themselves for the acceleration of the course of the class you're about to take this is why i created my video study course if you want more lessons just like this click on the link in the description if you are preparing for school if you're in school right now or studying and want a whole review of your national registry for every level from pre-emt all the way to your first year as a medic that's inside the course right down below including even on the job tips for when you're out in the field i'm going to give you a lifetime access right now you click the link down below before the price increase my friends i hope you are doing well thank you so much for the kind words i try to get back to all of your comments here and my friends much love i'll see you next time let's go place don't waste any time don't don't be hesitant and just do it because i know this program works and i know it got me to where i was where it's been a year without school from emt to hey i passed my test and 70 questions like go for it you could do it like do not hesitate and don't waste any time people that don't know you they need to they need this program this program is not a choice to me this program is a habit i went through it i i spent the time and money in other areas and i'm just gonna let you guys know that uh this was everything i was searching for the whole time the first couple videos i watched um when i noticed it just i i just immediately started connecting dots um on some of these things i didn't have graphs if you're looking for a different way to to learn and absorb the content in a non-threatening way in a caring way then i would absolutely recommend you
