Liver Meridian and Acupuncture Points

liver to a level three are used a lot in clinical practice however the liver Meridian has 14 acupuncture points it was so powerful today I'm going to look at each of them function location and clinical pearls we're also going to look at the Meridian pathway because it's important to understand why points are doing certain function and are helping different kind of indications welcome back to my channel if it's your first time here I'm Clara and I create acupuncture and transmission content for students and practitioners making it easy to grasp and fun to learn first we're going to look at the liver acupuncture points locations because it's really important to know where they are and then we're going to look at the function and indication but stay till the end because I will do a quick recap that will show you that it's easy to remember the best feature of each of those 14 points let's do this deliver Meridian has 14 acupuncture points let's look at its pathway now before we start with level one and the pathway we have to remember that the previous Meridian was the gallbladder which finishes at gallbladder 44. however there was a branch from gallbladder 41 that went and connected to the big toe to meet the liver Meridian So This Is How They connected level one is on the opposite side of spleen one on the big toe spin one is much more medial of the big toe while level one is more on the lateral side of the big toe even though they're both on the medial side of the foot so little Meridian starts at the big toe and will Ascend along the dorsum part of the foot all the way to the ankle now this is one two three and four five six and seven are going to be on the medial aspect of the thigh eight is at the knee or the middle aspect of the knee nine is going to be on the thigh again on the inner thigh and we're going to go Ascend to the inguinal region where we're going to have 10 11 and 12. then the Marine is going to wrap around the external genitalia this is very important and we'll see why when we talk about level five later on then it continues to ascend to the hypochondriac region to meet liver 13. it will enter the body then this is why I have little dots that means it's an internal part of an origin go around the stomach meet the liver organ and then the gallbladder organ then it will emerge back out at level 14 and Ascend along the ribs all the way to the throat the nasal pharynx and to the eye inner eye so to connect with the eye system it will continue to ascend all the way until it reached 220 to connect to the dumeridian on the vertex then there's a branch from the inner canthus or the eye system that will go down and wrap around the lips this is why the liver and the spleen are very much connected there is a lot of liver points that will help with digestion so those two are very much connected and then there's a one more branch that starts at the liver organ it's an internal branch and goes to the lung where it connects to the next Channel which is the long Meridian and then we start the cyclical flow of chi again make sense so let's recap it we start at the big toe go all along the middle aspect of the thigh wraps around the external genitalia goes to the hypochondriac region on the lateral side of the body will go inside and to around the stomach through the diaphragm to the liver organ and gallbladder organ emerge at the liver area where liver 14 is on that side on the other side it will be more emerging at the pancreas area see again very much connected to the digestive system and then Ascend along the ribs to the throat to the nasopharynx to the inner eye where it connects to the eye system and then all the way to do 20 then there's a branch from the inner eye that is going to go down and wraps around the lips and the second Branch starts internally at the liver and connects to the long Meridian where the long Meridian will be obviously the next one yes okay so the liver Meridian is a joy Yen Meridian it is a Yen Meridian but it's a joyian Meridian Joy means the end or The Terminal or the end of Yin so this is the translation the best translation and in the six stages two again is at the end it's at the bottom the liver Meridian is activated between 1 and 3 AM and this is when we get Clues when people are awake during that time that there is something that is going to be off or out of balance with the liver Meridian often it is due to stress and people will wake up and that's usually a liver young rising and if they can't fall back asleep that could be a little fire right so but it stems from Liberty stagnation and being good so that's for the pathway of the liver Meridian the liver Meridian itself as a function IT addresses a lot of the stress neurological issue IT addresses issue with the external genitalia pain of course digestive system and mental health so it is really well-rounded Meridian and we use it a lot in clinical practice so let's look at all the acupuncture points location and function and let's do this in the easy way like I like to do level one as you can see is on the base of the toenail point one soon however it shouldn't be saying the medial side of the toenail it should be the lateral because the medial side would be spin one which is the yellow dot there so spin one is on the medial side and level one is on the lateral side of the base of the toenail 0.12 now liver two is between the first and second metatarsal have it soon from the web margin liver 3 is located also between the first and second metatarsal but one soon from the web margin liver for his interior to the medial malleolus and often is mixed with spin five spin five is inferior and anterior to the medial malleolus while level four is just above it because it's interior to the medial malleolus but it's also located right medial to the tibialis anterior tendon liver one is a genuine Point as a gene wild point it can help fainting like all Gene well point but its main function which I think is very useful is for uterine bleeding that is abnormal and spleen one is a really good point for that as well so you can use either spleen one or level one both those points are great to really stop that abnormal bleeding of course Crystal need to look for the root cause it can help incontinence in general but it's not the best point for this so I'm not going to focus on that I really wanted to focus on the abnormal bleeding also for uterus prolapse now for you to respold apps you can use level one but also screen six run six and do 20. those three points adding to level one are fantastic for prolapse of the uterus specifically if it's stage one I use liver two all the time this is one of the best points for the young rising and the young Rising stems from Liberty stagnation when people are really stressed and then heat rises so it's a really good point to bring liver young down it's also a really good point to bring fire liver fire down so those indications are for anger irritability feeling like the volcano is going to explode that's for those people also for very heavy menstruation specifically when there's heat the heat is the one that's causing the heavy menstruation it is also used for red eyes and which is liver fire constipation due to excess heat or excess fire it's used for Tempo headaches at the end of the day that feel much better when we put an ice back on it or some cold compress on it right so you know it's a heat kind of headaches when the cold makes it feel better this is a great point for that as well it also stops internal wind into the wind can create dizziness epileptic attack epilepsy attack sorry and they can create other issues like convulsions right so this is a really good point to have as part of a wind winter no wind issue as well it's really good for the lower gel to help with urine retention bladder infection specifically when there is heat remember this is a point that really clears heat liver 2 is fantastic number three is probably the most used liver acupuncture points in practice right for everywhere in the world for everyone so liver three is the best point to move Liberty when there is liver cheese stagnation and the best combo is to combine it with large intestine Force so li4 and level three are called the four Gates when we needle them we open the gates for better flow li4 removes blood and liver three move Chi and in function of Qi is to move blood right she is moving blood so those four points two between the first and second metacarpal and two liver three between the first and second metatarsal they're kind of the same points opposite limbs so together they form the four Gates so we open the gates and get better flow when it comes to Liberty stagnation there were three is the best point and it's going to help relax the person when there's a lot of stress and my patients say that all the time oh that Point's gonna hurt today because I've been really stressed the second thing it's great for PMS specifically for premenstruation syndrome for women that have breast tenderness constipation a lot of tension stress moodiness during that period prior to menstruation it's also going to be great for temporal headaches for a lot of stress constipation that is worse at the end of the day or bloating that is worse at the end of the day that is going to help also it's a really good point not just for Liberty stagnation but also to help when it comes to cooling the body when it's a little bit overheated specifically for high blood pressure so like level 2 it brings the liver young down but it's a better point for Liberty stagnation obviously it's often going to be talked about to be used for depression now the reason is you can't just do liver 3 for depression you need a whole diagnosis and we need a lot more to it however when there is depression even though the pattern may be blood deficiency or phlegm or whatever the pattern is there is always an underlying Liberty stagnation in any depression because the person feels stuck they're stuck in that state and they feel like there's no hope no way out so that's why liver 3 has to be part of the protocol and if you haven't signed up to my free course on Mental Health please do so in the link above or in the link below this video because it is really useful to understand how to see them can help when it comes to mental health it's a free course check it out now level three again is a shoestring point it's a special Point twice and the unsource T point so any issue specifically stress that is affecting the body it is going to be such a good point never three rocks level four is underutilized in clinical practice and what's interesting is when we talk about acupuncture points a lot of them are directly impacting women's health because women's health is so intricate right but we don't have a lot of pointers specific to the male reproductive system kidney 10 is one of them but never four is another one number four is great for the male reproductive system specifically when there is seminal emission erectile dysfunction external genitalia issue and urine retention specifically for men now we can use it for women as well when we have external genitalia pain but that's not the best point for it think of this point as the male reproductive system issue point and actually in TCM the liver is and the Duma region are the two that we're going to use a lot more for male while the Chong Meridian and the spleen Meridian are going to be used more for female so it's kind of interesting to see it in that perspective are you enjoying my Graphics today well they're all part of my accupoint made easy book The Hard Copy ships all over the world but if you'd rather the digital version it has video links to complement it check out the link below this video for all the details and if you don't have a copy yet what are you waiting for level five is five soon directly above the medial malleolus but interior to the screen meridian so closer to the edge of the tibia level six is the same it's close to the edge of the tibia but seven soon directly above the medial malleolus and remember that between the medial malleolus to the knee Chris or popliteal crease is 15 on the medial side 16 soon on the lateral side level seven is one soon posterior to spleen nine and spleen nine is directly below and posterior the epicondyle of the tibia on the medial side of the leg and liver eight is at the middle end of the popular crease or medial end of the decrease when we bend the knee level 5 is a lower Connecting Point lower connecting points are part of the lower collaterals and the lower laterals of the liver will Ascend and wraps around the external genitalia remember we talked about this when we talked about the pathway so level five function is to treat anything that's happening with the external genitalia and it's also for bladder infection after intercourse so if people have bladder infection that occurs after intercourse that is the best point I use this point as well for interstitial cystitis I use this point a lot for herpes outbreak and any external genitalia issue also for yeast infection for women this will work very well so this is a point that clears damp and heat in the external genitalia region and it's fantastic it works so well you have to use livified level six is a Chic Life Point and she clef points relate to blood issue and pain issue so with this point we're gonna have to use it when there is pain during intercourse which is very common for women also rib pain or hypochondriac pain which is a very much a liver issue masturbation pain although this is not the best point for that spleen 8 is better than kidney five is better however if that's what you wanted to focus on you could put all three points kidney five splenate and liver six makes sense right if there is any kind of hernia pain this is the point so now if there's inguinal hernia specifically I would use this point over a little earlier for example makes sense good this is a great point for pain don't you love when acupuncture points only are going to do what they do best which is to address pain in the area where they are located while level seven that's exactly what it does and I have to say I probably have used level 7 in 20 years of practice maybe a couple of times for the pain in their lower knee on the medial side area that's all I have to say for that liver eight is a fantastic point it's a hussy point and as a hussy point it's located around the knee like all the other one like stomach 36 gallbladder 34 bladder 40 kidney ten speed nine all those points are very powerful because they have a lot of tea and a lot of blood so Liver Aid has two main functions first it nourishes blood which is fantastic for liver blood deficiency which creates amenorrhea or very light menstruation for postpartum fatigue so a little bit more of a woman's point this time but it's also going to be used for damp heat in the lower gel affecting the bladder and the external genitalia as well so it can be used for excess and deficiency not a lot of points can have that so I love liberate specifically to nourish liver blood I use a lot more to tonify than to clear I use it along with skin sex and stomach 36 and it works really well specifically when there is menstruation issue and DCM blood deficiency spin 10 is located too soon directly above the patella Medio upper border however level 9 is located Fortune above the female epicondyle on the medial side between the Sartorius muscle and the vastus medialis we can feel that it's pretty tender on a lot of people level 10 is located three soon directly stomach 30s stomach 30 is Fortune lateral to the upper border of the pubic synthesis and never then is also located at the lateral edge of the abductor longus muscle liver 11 is the same as Tut soon directly below stomach 30 on the lateral border of the abductor longus this is why it's a tricky point but liver 12 is two and a half soon lateral to the midline right below stomach 30 and it is where the femoral artery can be palpated so a little dangerous have you ever used liver nine there's that point a lot at all for some reason it never comes to mind it's not a bad point I think it's quite good but for some reason I never think of using liver nine and it is used to relieve pain so it kind of moved Chi for pain like abdominal pain menstruation pain or having any issue with low back pain as well but it's not my first choice and I don't think I ever use level 9 for low back pain so if you have let me know in the comments below because I have never used that point much at all level 10 11 and 12 because of the location I don't think I've used them a lot however I have used them for inguinal hernia specifically liver 12. because that works really really well and I'll talk about this when I talk about liver 12. level 10 is easy urine retention abdominal bloating that's pretty much it it's not a point I use a lot because of its location as well so that's a pretty fast and easy one for that one literally love regulates the Chong and the red Meridian for irregular menstruation so that's a very specific function however I think kidney points in that area like kidney 13 is going to be probably a better choice also stomach 29 is also a better choice because of its location I don't use liver 11 that much but that's its main function level 12 although it's not located in a great place because of the female artery is a great point for inguinal hernia this is really located where the pain is it's very local and so when I treat inguinal hernias I will use gallbladder 34 to relax the body Spin Six because pin 6 is a commander point of the hips and it's encompassing the whole area and a point like level 12 would be a really good add-on however I don't do it on the hernia side I do it on the opposite side but be aware of the female artery because we don't want to puncture that liver 13 is directly below the free end of the 11th red level 14 is located on the sixth intercourse of space Fortune lateral to the midline if you use the clavicle which is eight soon you go halfway down and reach the six into also space that's where level 14 is liver 13 is the front move point of the spleen so it strengthened the screen specifically when it comes to digestion so it's great for diarrhea for bloating for nausea and weak digestion specifically also it is the John influential point so it can be used if there is any issue affecting the Zone organ which are the heart the liver the spleen the kidney and the lung so if all of them are affected somehow or they're all impacted in the health of the patient liver 13 is a great add-on to your treatment also it's a really good point because of where it's located for pain in the ribs which often stems from Liberty stimulation level 14 is the front move point of the liver as such it helps relieve pain in the physical liver organ for hepatitis for example or fatty liver or any enlarged liver issue it's not going to get rid of it but it's going to relieve the uncomfortableness is that a word uncomfortableness I make English words up all the time sorry when people are in pain in the liver specific area and you can middle both sides it doesn't have to be just on the liver side it's also going to help the liver as a TCM entity so for depression for rib pain for stagnation Liberty stagnation is going to help move it as well it also help when it comes to digestion which is great because liver is involved in the digestive system right sense so level 14 is a great powerful point and I think it's underutilized in clinical practice as well remember we talked about how the liver Meridian is a dragon Meridian and in the sixth stage the last stage is the stage of the joy in which is the liver and pericardium and when there's high fever if the pathogen has penetrated all the way down to the drain level liver 14 needs to be there because it's going to help with the fever and try to expel the pathogens to come back up are you ready we are going to look at the 14 acupuncture points of the liver and narrow down the best feature and this is how we're going to remember all 14 points function less than two minutes ready let's go level one great for abnormal uterine bleeding liver two brains liver young down and never fire down for all the fire and young that effects the liver liver three moves liver cheese stagnation from depression PMs and feeling stress specifically combined for large intestine 4 to open the four Gates level four great point for male reproductive system issue level five this is the lower Connecting Point so great for external genitalia problem or outbreaks liver six is the Chic left point so great for pain affecting the menstruation but also abdominal pain and hernia pain level seven local knee pain level eight fantastic to nourish the blood specifically when there is masturation issue but also to clear damp heat in the lower jaw Never Nine never use that point but great for pain in the abdominal region and pain of the lower back level 10 11 12 all located in a hernia or inguinal hernia area level 12 is the best point for that while the other two are not used a lot but can also affect the area level 13 final point of the spleen so really strengthen the spleen and can address anything for a week Digest level 14 Franklin deliver so any issue affecting the liver organ but also the TCM liver entity as well done easy wow make sure to subscribe to my channel so you don't miss out all the videos that I produce regularly including shorts long form and live and check out my
