I'm going to show you how to add 20 me Team Borax your pool to get a B level of 50 parts per million in your pool it's the pool of my house here it's about 16,000 gallons the free form pool okay let me get the pool cleaners out of the pool and I'll go ahead and add the borax I have the new version of the creepy crawly in my pool I took it out here and the hoses hanging here with the hose hanger Pro and I also took out the solar Breeze cleaner from the pool I have a next up here salt water system at my pool so the pH is always high this should help stabilize the pH in the pool and I'll give a plug to Dave Ramsey we've actually been on this plan we were debt free including three houses in Southern California the best thing to do is use a pool calculator to find out how much borax add to your pool let me actually move it to my bigger screen here so I have my pool size there which is 16,000 gallons I don't think these numbers matter much but I'm going to put the pH what it is today and the arity was at 80 okay you scroll down to the box where it has Borox and it tells you how much to add to reach the desired level and I put in 50 parts per million so in that case I'm going to need to add 59 lb or 12 boxes and as far as the acid to counter that I'm going to need to add three gallons and two quarts okay the first thing you want to do is have your chemicals in balance before you add the borax to the pool I'm going to go ahead and test my pool I've been working on it for a couple weeks to get the alinity down to 80 and the PH down to about 7.4 I'm going to go ahead and check it right now to see what it's at you're going need a good test kit to get the alkalinity and pH readings and you're going to have to take those readings often during this process you're also going to need a borate test strip to measure how much borate is in the pool going to need your boxes and Borox of course and you're going to need a case of the muratic acid so I'm going to go ahead and try 12 boxes of the borax here in this pool and I have the pH right about where I want to start the process about 7.4 and I'm going go ahead and run an alal test of the tailor kit I also have a test strip here that shows the Alini is about 80 pH about 7.4 7.2 I'm going to turn everything on I'm let it run for 24 hours you want to take the Borox you want to pour slowly into the skimmer while the pool's running I'm going to do this with all these boxes here again pour it it slowly okay poured all 12 boxes into the skimmer I'm going to check the pH see where it's at took this reading by the return jet it's probably pretty Skyhigh after adding all that borax to the pool you can see that the pH shot up pretty dramatically start with adding 2 gallons of the muratic acid and kind of balance that out then if I'll recheck it in about 4 hours and add some more if needed pour it in the pool okay so I poured those two gallons and that should counter a lot of the pH rise then I'm going to check it about 4 hours once Cycles through the pool and at any time if you don't feel comfortable using the pure borax you can go ahead and get the pool proof it's a hexabor the liquid form of the borate you can add to your pool it's been about 4 hours here I'm going to go ahead and check the pH I'm sure it's pretty high cuz two gallons of acid shouldn't have lowered it too much and after 4 hours of pH is still pretty high I'm going to go ahead and add another gallon and a half of acid we go ahead and add another one and a one gallon and a half of acid okay so so far I added the 12 boxes of the borax to the pool 3 1/2 gallons of acid some let the pool run for 24 hours I'm going to go ahead and check it tomorrow come here the next day I'm going to go ahead and check the borate levels and the pH see what the readings are here what the borate levels are at so I'm going to call it just about 50 parts per million here according to the color chart look like the pH is about 7.4 hold it against this box of borax I can see it so it's pretty much right on the money it's what I started with when I started the treatment but I think I calculated perfectly the uh pool pool calculator was pretty accurate so it's always a good idea to have a couple boxes of the borax handy in case you do your pH test and you notice that it drop below 7.0 you definitely want to add some more borax to the pool it won't move the needle too much on the B level of the pool but it'll definitely raise the ph back up and I just checked the alinity it's at 90 so it's just about where it was when I started the process the only question that my pull here is the actual size of the pool again it's a free form there goes kind of a weird shape so I think it was about 16,000 G I think I was pretty close to that it wasn't too difficult of a process to do you just have to make sure you get the right pool size you calculate that and so that's a quick look at adding The Borax to your pool to raise the borate levels to 50 parts per million and when the Sun hits the pool the water is definitely more sparkling
