Exploring Eco-Friendly Homes in Houston

hi I'm Delle I'm a realtor in the Houston area and this is Megan who is also a realtor in the Heights area today she is going to take us around the Heights in the Shady Acres area show us everything there is to do around the area as well as this beautiful new development that just started that is completely powered by Tesla wall it's the first of anything in the country according to Tesla so I'm really excited to see what she has to show us today so Megan started the Tour by taking us to a nearby coffee shop called wild that has specialty CBD shots in it five out of five recommend great thing about being in and around the Heights area is you are close to literally everything from groceries to nightlife and coffee anyways after coffee we took a walk around the neighborhood around here you're going to find a mix of historical homes new modern construction homes as well as high-rise condos what do you think of the coffee coffee was amazing energized for the rest of the day where are we now so now we are on the wide of trails so these connect to all the trails throughout the city so how far is this from the house so trails are really close to the house they're within walking distance nice [Music] so we're in the Oaks of Shady Acres Community in the Heights and this was developed by Utopia homes and they were partnered with Tesla to develop these eco-friendly living homes not only is it the first of its kind in Houston but first of its kind in the nation according to Tesla headquarters and the developers so I know nothing about a Tesla wall really so everything is included like it it comes with it so everything all the power is included with all the Technologies included with the purchase of the home let's go take a look first at the power walls so we have 11 in this community six are under contract or have sold so five are still available and you said this guy or this developer is like an international Builder he's done a lot in France so they work in Paris they have experience with solar all over the country all over the world uh London Florida California nice Chicago so this is what runs the house basically yes these are the power walls that run the home you have two batteries and this is enough to control or to power the entire home and charge your own cars so basically you would not have a power bill you're off the Texas grid you're off the grid but you're still connected to the grid so if you do decide to sell the power which you have the option to you can earn money that way as well so if I turned off my wall and just went with whatever power companies in the area I sell the power you can sell your power is there a chance like the Texas power grid that the Tesla grid could get overworked and then lose power we had during Hurricane Barrel most of Shady Acres was without power and these State stayed on the entire time they're they're built and designed to withstand storms like that so and they're completely paid off so they come with the house yes everything is paid off and comes with the home you're not going to have an extra separate bill or a lean on the property either so you control the power from your phone basically yes there's an app through Tesla that you can uh download and you control whether you use whatever power you have whether you sell it or save it so how does the roof work it like comes up during the day or what so the roof it there just tile shingles on the roof and they act as solar panels so they're made out of a steel and a glass material and they're the highest rated when it comes to hail damage fire and wind so you definitely need that for a place like Houston where we're the number one city for natural disasters yeah and then there's a a thing to plug in the car yes so there's a 240 volt EV electric car charger and it doesn't have to be Tesla right no it is adaptable to any electric vehicle show that in show it in that so here is the charger for your electric vehicle and it is convertible to any type of electric vehicle not just Tesla and how much do you think people save annually on average having a Tesla wall so just depending on the cost of usage of of electricity you would be normally around $3 to $4,000 a year instead you're saving that and potentially earning up to $4,000 or even more selling it back to the grid are you accounting the 4,000 still using your own power or just selling it all that is still using yours and having leftover to sell [Music] nice so tell me about the 11 houses all of them are kind of slightly different right yes so we have two floor plans the Acadia and the Solara floor plan which one's this one so we're in the Acadia floor plan that is 197 ft it's a slightly smaller one and the Solara floor plan is 2095 so first floor is office space we have a full bathroom downstairs so how do these houses kind of differ from the suburbs yeah in Houston there are single family homes that are single story twostory and we there's a lot more of three story homes four story homes in Houston and at the top of the stairs a half bath for guest second floor is the living space so you're going to have the kitchen living room family room five burner gas it's gas uh cookware right gas cookware yes so we have gas in the [Music] home I love that we have a hidden microwave that you can't see oo let me see and then quartz countertops in the kitchen and this is the patio yes are there so some of the ones in the back that we're not viewing today they do have views of downtown so no bedrooms on the main living level so first floor we have that room and office auction and then third floor the next two bedrooms laundry room here I love that laundry is on the third floor so it's close to you and then primary bedroom here in the front this is uh pretty spacious because that's a king-sized bed right yes and then the closet which is a walk-in and a small like bathroom so separate shower and tub oh I love the sandalon [Music] tub there is a lowf flow uh fa so that's ering energy as well conserving water as [Music] well and then there's one more secondary bedroom [Music] here anyways I hope you enjoyed this tour as always thank you so much for watching and I will see you next time
