The history of the Sharingan from Naruto. The Sharingan is the Dojutsu Kekai Genkai of the Uchiha clan that appears selectively among its members. It's regarded as one of the three great Dojutsu, the others being the Byakugan and the Rinnegan.
While its powers originated from Kage Otsutsuki's Rinnei Sharingan, independent form was first manifested by Indra Otsutsuki, Hagoromo Otsutsuki in the anime. Welcome to the Imagi. In today's video, we're going over the history of the Sharingan.
Before we begin, we publish a new video every day, so be sure to subscribe to our channel and ring the bell to be notified about our latest videos. I just posted a video on my vlog channel and I'd really appreciate it if you guys would check it out. In the video we bought a 7 foot teddy bear and hid inside it to scare kids with, we bought wrist mounted flamethrowers to turn us into firebenders, and we bought 50,000 pieces of candy to give away to trick or treaters.
It was a fun video to film and I really hope you guys enjoy it. I'll link to it on the screen now in the description, and in a pinned comment so if you guys want to check it out you shouldn't have any trouble finding it. And with that out of the way, let's get back to the video. Acquisition When a wielder of this kakagenkai experiences a powerful emotional condition with regards to a person precious to them, their brain releases a special form of chakra that affects the optic nerves, transforming the eyes into sharingan. For that reason, the sharingan is described as an eye that reflects the heart.
Often, as per the Uchiha's so-called curse of hatred, this emotion is a negative one, brought on by stress or loss. The emotion can also be positive, driven by a desire to protect or reunite with a loved one. In the anime, it was shown that usually after first acquiring this power, the user's enhanced perception will throw off their timing, causing them to overstress their bodies from trying to keep up with the increased reaction time, forcing the user to adjust to properly move with it. A higher control of one's chakra is also required to maintain its power for long.
It was also shown during emotional states that begin to trigger the Sharingan's awakening. It can temporarily blur the person's eyesight until finally manifesting. Assuming that the user is aware they've awakened the Sharingan, they are thereafter they're able to freely use it.
When first awakened, each Sharingan usually will only have one Tomoe, although in some cases, they immediately gained two Tomoe in each of their eyes. Through emotional growth of extreme conditions, the Sharingan will continue to develop, its full maturation represented by a third Tomoe. When Hagoromo awakened the Sharingan in the anime, he had all three Tomoe immediately. All the Sharingan's abilities are available to the user from its earliest stage, but with greater development comes greater proficiency with those abilities.
sample. With full maturation, the Sharingan's ability to perceive all targets and events around them is fully developed, which can cause the user's movements to drastically differ from their earlier movements if the Sharingan matured mid-battle. As with any Dojutsu, Sharingan can be transplanted into non-Uchiha.
They're unable to deactivate it and its use has a greater chakra demand for them than an actual Uchiha who only need minimal chakra to keep it active. For these reasons, non-Uchiha tend to cover their Sharingan when they aren't using it in order to conserve chakra. Sharingan that originate from the same Uchiha are still linked to the same Uchiha. to some extent, even when wielded by separate users, at times enabling those users to see these same things. Abilities.
The Sharingan grants the wielder two broad abilities, the Eye of Insight and the Eye of Hypnotism. Although the abilities are not literally restricted to certain eyes, Madara Uchiha noted that the Sharingan can only be used to its full potential when both eyes are together. Even within these two categories, there may exist several distinct, though similar, abilities.
Eye of Insight. The user can see chakra, giving it color in order to distinguish it by its composition and source. Though not as capable in this regard as the Byaku God, it can see chakra through some, but not all, obstructions, and detect irregularities in a person's chakra flow. such as those caused by genjutsu influence.
The user is granted incredible clarity of perception, enabling them to read lips or mimic something like pencil movements. Sasuke Uchiha's Sharingan was even able to see on a cellular level. In combat, this allows them to see fast-moving moving objects and once fully developed, offers some amount of predictive capabilities. They can anticipate an opponent's next move based on the slightest muscle tension in their body and act accordingly to dodge or intercept.
They can also read the enemy's hand seals to give them an insight of the performed technique's nature, regardless of the speed or performance, so long as the hands are not physically hidden from view. Although a Sharingan user can see these things, they also need the physical ability to actually act on the visual information. In the anime, it's shown that with advanced enough prowess via eye contact, the user can even enter the target's mind to look through their memories, and even erase them with a long range for several targets.
The user is able to copy almost any jutsu they see, memorizing ninjutsu, genjutsu, and taijutsu with near perfect accuracy. They can then either perform that jutsu, or perform a jutsu that is not to or modify it to suit their needs, as when Sasuke Uchiha bases his lion combo on Rock Lee's front lotus. Again, Sharingan users need the prerequisite abilities before they can mimic a jutsu that they've seen, and for that reason they cannot, for example, reproduce kekai genkai abilities they do not have or nature transformations they haven't learned to perform.
Eye of Hypnotism The user can perform what is generically called Genjutsu Sharingan. While there are various manifestations and purposes to the ability, the better known one is to, through eye contact, suggest thoughts and actions to a target, coercing them to divulge information or act in a particular way, potentially without the target's awareness. In extreme cases, the Sharingan user can take complete control of the target's body, forcing them to do exactly as the controller wishes.
This control is visually indicated by the Sharingan's design appearing in the target's eye. The Uchiha are particularly infamous for using this ability on the tailed beasts. and in fact can enter its or a Jinchuriki's subconscious to more precisely control the beast's chakra.
Multiple targets can be taken control of in this way, though the more divided the user's attention is, the easier it is for targets to escape this control. While not an ability per se, the Sharingan user can appear as if they're able to see the future. First, the user must perfectly mimic every move their opponent makes, and possibly their thoughts and words through careful observation. Then, they suggest an action to the opponent, such as hand seals for a technique that the opponent and Sharingan user already know, and copy that. With these things done, the user can complete the action even before the opponent does, possibly using the Sharingan's Genjutsu to confuse or delay them.
In addition to these abilities, there are two other jutsu that a Sharingan user can perform. Izanagi allows the user to warp reality for a short time, changing reality into illusion and illusion into reality, thus escaping death and rewriting destiny. Izanami traps the victim in an infinite loop disregarding the target's five senses, specifically designed as a reprimand for those who would abuse Izanagi. The use of either ability causes the Sharingan with which it's performed to be blinded afterwards, and for that reason the Uchiha classified them as Kinjutsu.
Transformations The Sharingan can be evolved into the Mangekyou Sharingan by experiencing the Trauma of Loss, granting unique, user-specific jutsu in addition to the Sharingan's standard abilities. Awakening the Mangekyou Sharingan will automatically fully mature a Sharingan if it isn't already. Use of the Mangekyou Sharingan causes blindness over time, but this can be negated by transplanting another pair of Mangekyou Sharingan from a close relative, such as a sibling, to acquire eternal Mangekyou that never lose their sight. A Sharingan can become the Rinnegan through mixing of both Asura's chakra and Indra's chakra, which will bring out Hagoromo Otsutsuki's chakra. Both of Madara Uchiha's Sharingan become Rinnegan several decades after he integrated Hashirama Senshu's DNA into his body.
Sasuke Uchiha's left Sharingan became a Rinnegan after acquiring half of Hagoromo Otsutsuki's chakra. As showed with Madara, the awakening of the Rinnegan restores full eyesight to the eyes, fixing the blindness caused from using Izanagi. In the anime, Hagoromo Otsutsuki was shown awakening his Mangekyou Sharingan and his Rinnegan through a a similar method that the other wielders awaken their own mangekyo. Hagoromo's Rinnegan was unique in that it awakened simultaneously with his mangekyo, and skipped over it entirely in the process.
Mangekyo Sharingan The Mangekyo Sharingan is an advanced form of the sharingan that has only been activated by a handful of Uchiha. They are noted to be the heavenly eyes that see the truth of all creation without obstruction. A Mangekyo Sharingan is distinguished from a normal sharingan by its appearance, which is a sign of the power of the Mangekyo.
which changes the form of the Tomoe seal. While the exact design differs for each user, they all resemble pinwheels. It's initially awakened by the trauma suffered from witnessing the death of someone close to the user. Uchiha have historically misunderstood this criteria as the user needed to be able to to be responsible for the person's death, and for that reason they developed into the practice of killing their closest friends in order to gain the Mangekyou Sharingan.
Obito's Mangekyou activated immediately after his trauma, whereas in Naruto Jinraiden, Sasuke's Mangekyou didn't activate until several weeks afterwards. The Mangekyou Sharingan retains all of the Sharingan's generic abilities. In addition to that, the Mangekyou grants powerful abilities that differ between each eye, though abilities may be similar in nature. Both Sasuke and Itachi have access to Amaterasu's flames, though the extent to which they can use them differs. The abilities of a Mangekyou Sharingan may not even be the same for both of a single user's eyes, as Itachi has a Matarasu in one eye and Tsukiyomi in the other.
As each eye houses the particular Dojutsu techniques, one can only access them if they currently house the said eye, even if they were the originator of said technique. Once a user awakens the Mangekyou in both eyes, they're able to perform Susanoo, even without either eye. In addition to the unique techniques, the straight Tomoe of Madara's and Sasuke's Mangekyou Sharingan grants them greater fluidity in their movements while fighting.
Madara was able to sense this form and later deduced that he and Sasuke must be connected by more than just blood. As with many In Nido Jutsu, Mangekyou Sharingan can be transplanted into a Nanuchiha, granting them all of its abilities, albeit with steeper chakra demands. Abilities of a Mangekyou Sharingan can also be programmed to activate under certain circumstances, either within the user's own eyes or in a target of the user's choosing. This programming remains even after death.
Using them comes with a certain sensation that sensors can feel, although it doesn't show which technique is being prepared. Even for true wielders, usage of the Mangekyou Sharingan's abilities can cause a great strain on the user. It drains a considerable amount of chakra when simply activating and maintaining the advanced Dojutsu, and even more through each technique used.
Even more, it can cause considerable damage to their being, leaving the body in agonizing pain and causing deterioration to their vision until eventually overusage leaves them blind. Their vision can be restored by transplanting the mangekyou sharingan of an uchiha with strong blood ties, ideally a sibling, thus awakening the so-called eternal mangekyou sharingan. Unlike with other transplants, this second evolution will allow the user to retain their original techniques.
Although these eyes merge the designs of the two Uchiha's Mangekyou Sharingan, they're still the eyes of the previous user, and thus react to certain techniques that are aimed at the original owner's Mangekyou Sharingan. Also, they no longer suffer any negative side effects from using them, even reducing chakra draining to an unnoticeably minimal level. According to Madara, the eternal Mangekyou Sharingan is proof an Uchiha has continued to push forward despite experiencing great losses. Itachi Uchiha awakened his mangekyou sharingan after watching the suicide of his best friend, Shisui Uchiha, shortly before the Uchiha clan downfall. With his left mangekyou, he can use Tsukiyomi, an extremely powerful genjutsu that distorts the victim's perception of time.
With his right mangekyou, he can use Tsukiyomi, an extremely powerful genjutsu that Mangekyou he can use Amaterasu, creating inextinguishable black flames at the user's focal point. Since he awakened both Mangekyou, he can use Susanoo. Because both Tsukiyomi and Amaterasu use vast amounts of chakra combined with his terminal illness, multiple uses of the Mangekyou's abilities are possible.
in a short period of time is particularly debilitating for Itachi, such that after using it three times in one day, he was required to deactivate even his normal Sharingan to conserve energy. Sometime after Itachi's death, desiring the power to kill Naruto, Sasuke Uchiha had Itachi's eyes transplanted into him. Variations Obito Uchiha Obito Uchiha awakened his Mangekyou Sharingan after the death of Rin Nohara during the Third Shinobi World War. Obito himself only had his right eye at the time, but the event caused his Mangekyou to simultaneously awaken in Kakashi Haruke, who wielded Obito's left eye.
Both eyes wielded Kamui's left eye, and both eyes wielded Kamui's right eye. Kamui, able to teleport objects to and from Kamui's dimension, though in different manners. The right eye is able to use close-range Kamui, teleporting the user and or those they're in contact with. By teleporting only parts of their body there, they can, in effect, seamlessly pass through other matter. matter.
The left eye is able to use long-range Kamui, creating a barrier around a target that teleports them, also able to produce an attraction force to draw other targets close enough in. The left eye can also target the user themselves for complete teleporting. During the Fourth Shinobi World War, it was discovered that each eye is impervious to the other's Kamui. Madara Uchiha steals Kakashi's eye in order to pursue Obito to Kamui's dimension. There, he exchanges the eye for Obito's Rinnegan, returning both eyes to their original owner, who is currently possessed by Black Zetsu.
During this brief period, Black Zetsu also gained access to both Sharingan powers. After Obito was freed from Black Zetsu's control, he uses them in combination effectively thereafter to retrieve Sasuke from Kaguya Otsutsuki's distant dimension. But soon afterwards, both of his eyes are destroyed when he's killed by Kaguya Otsutsuki's all-killing ash bones. His spirit briefly returns to the living plane, and inhabits Kakashi, manifesting both Mangekyou with their respective abilities through Kakashi and by extension Susanoo. Variations Madara Uchiha Madara Uchiha was the first Uchiha to awaken the Mangekyou Sharingan.
It's not known what the individual abilities of each of his eyes were, but he was able to use Susanoo. The straight Tomoe of his Mangekyou Sharingan granted him fluidity with his movements while fighting. When Madara's over-usage of his Mangekyou Mangekyou during the Warring States Period left him blind, this prompted his brother Izuna Uchiha to bequeath Madara his eyes on his deathbed for the sake of preserving the Uchiha, thus granting Madara the eternal Mangekyou Sharingan.
Towards the end of his life, Madara was able to evolve his eyes into Rinnegan, and he was Rinnegan, which he transplanted to Nagato when Nagato was a child without anybody ever knowing. For the Fourth Shinobi World War, Obito wielded Madara's left Rinnegan as wielding both would have been too strenuous. Eventually both eyes found their way back to Madara after he was revived.
Variations Izuna Uchiha Iizuna Uchiha awakened his Mangekyou Sharingan shortly after Madara did. It's not known what the individual abilities of each of his eyes were. Before he died, he entrusted his eyes to Madara in order to restore his vision and thus protect the Uchiha from extinction.
Despite Iizuna giving the eyes willingly, Madara is popularly believed to have taken the eyes against his will. Variations Sasuke Uchiha Sasuke Uchiha awakened his Mangekyou Sharingan after the death of his older brother, Itachi Uchiha. With either Mangekyou, Sasuke can cast a Matarasu, as well as shape and extinguish them.
Because he awakened both of his Mangekyou, he can use Susanoo. The straight Tomoe of his Mangekyou Sharingan grant him fluidity in his movements while fighting. Sasuke is initially reluctant to transplant Itachi's eyes and gain the eternal Mangekyou Sharingan, claiming that his views were different from Itachi's.
Later, deciding that he needed the increase in strength in order to kill Naruto Uzumaki, along with the severe deterioration of his eyesight from overuse, Sasuke accepted Itachi's eye transplant. After acquiring half of Hagoromo Otsutsuki's chakra, Sasuke's left eye evolved further into a Rinnegan, which Sasuke is evidently unable to deactivate. This eye was destroyed by Boruto Uzumaki while being controlled by Momoshiki Otsutsuki. Variations, Shisui Uchiha. Shisui Uchiha awakened his Mangekyou Sharingan after he allowed his friend and rival to die.
With each of his eyes, he could use Koro Amatsukami, a powerful genjutsu that manipulates a target's thoughts so perfectly and absolutely that no one completely, including the target, would have the slightest idea that they were being being controlled. However, this technique can't be used with the same eye again until after a period of time. In the anime, awakening the Mangekyou Sharingan in both eyes allowed him to use Susanoo.
When Shisui attempted to use Koroamatsukami in order to avert the Uchiha Clan downfall, His right mangekyou was stolen by Danzo Shimura, who felt Shisui's plan was futile and wished to protect the village on his own. Fearful that Danzo would take his other eye too, Shisui entrusted it to his best friend, Itachi Uchiha, and begged him to use it to save Konoha. Danzo transplants the eye he took into himself and uses it over the years to manipulate others into his way of thinking, using the chakra of Hashira Masenju to reduce his recharge time. Danzo destroys the eye before his death so that no one else could have it. Itachi transplanted the eye he was given into himself.
into a crow that he planned to use to re-ally his brother Sasuke with Konoha. He used it on himself instead when he's reincarnated in order to break free of Kabuto Yakushi's control. Itachi incinerates the crow afterwards so that nobody else can have the eye. Indra Otsutsuki In the manga, Indra Otsutsuki was the first user of the Mangekyou Sharingan. The individual abilities of each of his eyes were unknown except that he was able to use Susanoo.
In the anime, he awakened his Mangekyou Sharingan after killing his two followers. With his left eye, he was able to use Susanoo. able to use Hinokagatsuchi to produce black flames. Variations Shin Uchiha This Monkeykyo Sharingan form is uniquely shared between multiple yet connected individuals.
With his right eye, Shin Uchiha is able to telekinetically manipulate any objects after first branding them with a special mark that he places by direct contact with his hand. Shin's clones, being genetically identical to him, possess the same Mangekyou Sharingan design and use it with the same telekinetic powers. A creature also shares the same Mangekyou Sharingan design with Shin. Variations Fugaku Uchiha In the anime, Fugaku Uchiha has awakened his Mangekyou Sharingan after witnessing a sacrifice of his dear friend during the Third Shinobi World War. Although not much is known about his Mangekyou, Fugaku was confident it was strong enough to control the Ninetales.
Variations Hagoromo Otsutsuki In the anime, Hagoromo awakened his power after risking his brother Hamada's life to save him from Kaguya's control. However, the design of Zamangekyou Sharingan is unknown because his eyes evolved into the Rinnegan at the same time. While the individual techniques his eyes had are unknown, he was able to create a uniquely massive complete body Susanoo, which was roughly the size of the Ten Tails.
