Basics of Music Staff and Clefs

Music Theory: The Staff, Clefs, and Ledger Lines
Introduction to the Staff
The staff (or stave) is the foundation where notes are drawn.
Comprises five lines and four spaces.
Each line or space represents a white key on the keyboard.
Understanding Clefs
Clefs assign specific notes to lines or spaces on the staff.
Two primary clefs:
Treble Clef (G Clef):
Wraps around the G line on the staff.
Notes above G follow the alphabetical order (A, B, C, etc.).
Bass Clef (F Clef):
The line between the dots of this clef is F.
Ledger Lines
Used when there is no more room on the staff to place notes.
They extend the staff, allowing for additional notes.
The Grand Staff
Also known as the Great Stave.
A theoretical staff composed of eleven lines.
By removing the middle line, it becomes two regular staffs.
Adding the Treble Clef to the top staff and Bass Clef to the bottom staff shows the relationship between them.
Middle C:
The note that joins the two clefs on the Grand Staff.
It corresponds to the middle line of the staff.
