Blender Tutorial Notes

Getting Started

  • Delete the default cube (press X).
  • Add a new cube (Shift + A).
  • Add subdivision modifier (Ctrl + 1) and apply it.

Editing the Mesh

  • Enter edit mode and scale the sphere into an oval shape.
  • Press 1 for front view; switch to wireframe mode and enable proportional editing.
  • Select bottom surfaces, set to individual origin, and extrude (press E) to form legs.
  • Add another subdivision modifier and Shade Smooth.

Creating Ears

  • Create a new cube for the ears and keep it separate from the body.
  • Subdivide and scale the cube in edit mode (S), move into position (G).
  • Duplicate ear (Shift + D) and parent it to the body (Ctrl + P).

Tail Creation

  • Create a cube for the tail; subdivide and extrude in edit mode.
  • Use Ctrl + R for loop cuts, move and scale appropriately.
  • Shade Smooth and parent the tail to the body.

Adding Ground and Physics

  • Create a plane for ground, position the cat above it.
  • Add collision physics for the ground and chopsticks.
  • Add cloth physics for the body; adjust settings (speed multiplier, mass, tension, etc.).

Animating the Model

  • Select surfaces for grabbing and create a vertex group (name it "pin").
  • Assign selected surfaces to the group and create a hook (Ctrl + H).
  • Start animation from frame 0 and ensure proper parenting.
  • Animate chopsticks with auto keyframing for ease.

Unpinning and Finalizing Animation

  • Create a new vertex group ("Unpin") with no weights.
  • Add Vertex Weight Mix modifier; switch from Pin to Unpin during animation.
  • Bake cloth animation to avoid jittering.

Ear and Tail Animation

  • Save locations of tail points (insert key) for animation.
  • Use sweeping motion for tail; duplicate for variations.
  • Animate ears similarly by moving them around and inserting keys.

Lighting and Materials

  • Create a sun for lighting; adjust shadow settings.
  • Use Shader Editor to create and link materials.
  • Adjust glass-like material for the ground; texture painting for details.

Grease Pencil and Drawing

  • Add grease pencil for outlines; adjust strokes and camera settings.
  • Create new layers for facial features; adjust settings for cleaner drawings.
  • Animate features using both frame-by-frame and interpolation methods.

Final Touches

  • Parent grease pencil parts to model.
  • Use interpolation for smoother animation transitions.
  • Repeat for other features as needed.

Conclusion

  • Review all steps and ensure everything is set.
