Verb TO BE in Past Tense

Introduction

Positive Form

  • I -> I was
  • He -> He was
  • She -> She was
  • It -> It was
  • You -> You were (singular and plural)
  • We -> We were
  • They -> They were

Negative Form

  • Add NOT after the verb
  • Examples:
    • I was -> I was not
    • He was -> He was not
    • She was -> She was not (or She wasn't)
    • It was -> It wasn't
    • You were -> You were not
    • We were -> We were not (or We weren't)
    • They were -> They weren't

Interrogative Form (Questions)

  • Move the verb TO BE to the front of the sentence
  • Examples:
    • I was -> Was I?
    • He was -> Was he?
    • She was -> Was she?
    • It was -> Was it?
    • You were -> Were you?
    • We were -> Were we?
    • They were -> Were they?
  • Example Sentences:
    • I was a student. -> Was I a student?
    • He was happy. -> Was he happy?
    • You were busy. -> Were you busy?
