Learning the Pretérito Indefinido in Spanish

Hello! I am Mónica and I am the virtual teacher of Say Zonte. Today we are going to learn the "pretérito indefinido". Last week I climbed the Ilamatepec Volcano. The day before yesterday I ate pupusas at El Zonte. I talked to my friend Camilo yesterday. We use the "pretérito indefinido" when we refer to an action that was completed in the past. I climbed the volcano. I ate pupusas. I talked to Camilo. There are temporal phrases that indicate when we have to use the "pretérito indefinido". Ayer (yesterday). Anoche (last night). En 2019 (in 2019). La semana pasada (last week). Hace dos días (two days ago). Regular verbs of the "pretérito indefinido" are the following: Regular verbs that end in –AR are conjugated as follows: For example, the verb “hablar” (to talk/speak). I talked... / I spoke... You talked... / You spoke... She/he talked... / She/he spoke... We talked... / We spoke... You (pl.) talked... / You (pl.) spoke... They talked... / They spoke... Regular verbs that end in –ER are conjugated as follows: For example, the verb “comer” (to eat). I ate. You ate. He/she ate. We ate. You (pl.) ate. They ate. Regular verbs that end in –IR are conjugated as follows: For example, the verb “subir” (to climb). I climbed. You climbed. He/she climbed. We climbed. You (pl.) climbed. They climbed. There are also irregular verbs. For example, the verbs "ser" (to be) and "ir" (to go) are completely irregular. I was... / I went... You were... / You went... He/she was... / He/she went... We were... / We went... You (pl.) were... / You (pl.) went... They were... / They went... For example, "I went to the gym yesterday." There are many irregular verbs, and you must study them. • Estar (to be). • Tener (to have). • Poder (to be able to). • Poner (to put). • Hacer (to make). • Venir (to come). • Saber (to know). • Querer (to want). These verbs change their stem, and remember that the first and second person singular of these verbs do not have an accent mark. For example, "the day before yesterday my friend was at the beach." There are more verbs that change in the "pretérito indefinido". For example, the following verbs: “Decir” (to say), “traducir” (to translate) and “traer” (to bring/carry). There is a change in the third person plural and in the verb stem. These verbs do not have accent marks. For example, "my friend Camilo told me that everything is fine". Everything is fine! There are verbs that change their form in the "pretérito indefinido" when they have two vowels in a row. “Creer” (to believe/think), “leer” (to read) and “caer” (to fall). For example, "my friend Camilo read a book yesterday". The verbs "morir" (to die) and "dormir" (to sleep) have a change in the third person singular and plural. The letter "o" becomes "u". For example, "last night Camilo fell asleep at 9 p.m.". The last group of irregular verbs in the "pretérito indefinido" are verbs such as “empezar” (to begin/start), “sacar” (to remove), and “jugar” (to play). These verbs change only in the first person singular. I began... / I started... I removed... I played... Yesterday I started my surf lessons. I hope you liked this video and that you learned a lot.
