CNA Bed Pan Procedure

Introduction

  • Patty, the CNA, greets Mr. Jones and offers assistance with a bed pan.
  • Important to ensure patient comfort and privacy throughout the process.

Preparation

  • Close curtains for privacy.
  • Wash hands thoroughly.
  • Gather necessary supplies:
    • Barrier
    • Chucks
    • Set of gloves (two pairs)
    • Hand wipes
    • Bed pan
    • Toilet paper

Bed Pan Placement

  • Explain the procedure to the patient.
  • Ask the patient to bend knees and lift hips.
  • Loosen sheets for room to work.
  • Place Chucks under patient:
    • Protects bedding from being soiled.
  • Position the bed pan:
    • Wider end towards the foot of the bed.
  • Remove gloves after placement.

During Use

  • Raise the head of the bed for comfort.
  • Provide Mr. Jones with toilet paper and a call light.
  • Step outside the curtain for privacy.

After Use
