Exam Overview

  • Exam Dates: Both Group 2 and Group 2A exams will be conducted on September 14.
  • Number of Vacancies: Approximately 3,200 vacancies available.
  • Conducting Body: Tamil Nadu Public Service Commission (TNPSC).

Changes to Exam Structure

  • Previous Structure: Group 2 exams included three stages:
    • Primary Examination
    • Main Examination
    • Interview
  • Current Structure:
    • The Interview stage has been removed.
    • Both groups now include only Primary Examination and Main Examination.
  • Nature of Main Examination:
    • Group 2: Descriptive type
    • Group 2A: Objective type (Computer-based exam)

Examination Details

  • Positions Available:
    • Group 2: Municipal Commissioner, Deputy Commercial Tax Officer, Assistant Inspector of Police, etc.
    • Group 2A: Senior Inspector, Assistant Inspector at various government departments.
  • Important Exam Types:
    • Group 2 is descriptive, while Group 2A is objective.

Scoring Patterns

  • Previous Years' Cutoff:
    • For the previous year, cutoff was around 140 out of 200.
    • Current examination is expected to have a lower cutoff.
  • Question Distribution:
    • General Language: 100 questions (General English & Tamil)
    • Aptitude: 25 questions
    • General Studies: 75 questions

Preparation Tips

  • General Language Preparation:
    • Candidates should aim for at least 95/100 in language questions.
  • Aptitude Preparation:
    • Aim for 20 out of 25 in quantitative aptitude.
  • General Studies Focus Areas:
    • Focus on History, Indian Polity, Economics, and Geography for easier success.
  • Specific Units to Focus:
    • Unit 8: Tamil society and culture
    • Unit 9: Indian Polity and History are essential areas to prepare thoroughly.

Descriptive Questions in Group 2 Mains
