Bioactive Enclosures

one of the reasons that people love making bioactive enclosures is because you don't have to take care of them they basically just clean themselves so today in this video I will be be talking about the five best reasons on why you should have a bioactive enclosure number one they are self- sustainable which means that you basically have to do no cleaning no anything all you have to do really is just maintain the water the humidity levels and your en closure and that's it the second thing you need to do is stock your bioactive enclosure with you know things like a clean up like a cleanup C right so that would be isopod springtails and any other type of things that you would want in your enclosure to clean you know the substrate and if your you know pet makes any you know waste it'll eat that too such as like worms and types of beetles all right so let's let's get into this video first thing to make a bioactive enclosure you need certain types of substrates what I like using is Pete Moss and repto oil mixed together with some um like kind of crushed up dried leaves I like to use that because then my isopods and springtails are something to eat instead of you know eating any live plants you will be putting into the into the enclosure the second thing that you'll be needing to do is feeding right so to feed what I like to do right to feed my cleanup Crews before I put them into my bioactive enclosures is I feed them things such as you know fruits and vegetables like strawberries lettuce carrots all those types of um things I would I would personally just search up what type of foods you can feed them cuz I might not be sure with there's certain species that can't eat certain things but um yeah so you need what I like to do right is I like to feed them all those things and then put them into the enclosure to kind of like get them all ready so they don't just go in there and not have a good time so my personal favorite isopod species is the dairy cow because they're very very good beautiful species for beginners right they're not too big they're not too small they don't need as much food they're it's really really good for starting off your first couple colonies for your bioactive enclosure right and then your second insect that you need are springtails springtails will eat end hips of mold and you know nasty stuff in your enclosure when you're when you're are like keeping isopods though I would recommend keeping spring TOS with them so that mold doesn't grow and then they won't be able to eat or you know all those bad complications though for live plants in a bioactive enclosure I think it really comes down to the type of animal you have in there you know if you have a large reptile a small reptile if you have one that's arboreal nonarboreal it really really does matter because there are certain plants that you know each type needs like if you were to get an arboreal snake you probably need some sturd you know High plants same with arboreal lizards such as cros which I do have myself I have my own bioactive enclosures in the back there so you can see those and I have some sturdy you know BM bmad are perfect in my opinion B are the perfect plant for what I have cr geekos I'm not really too sure about any other types of like species like that but [Music] um and yeah so but for a terrestrial creature like a you know small tortoise small turtle or just any type of land non or boal um reptile you should also use some sturdy plants but you don't have to do anything too high just something that's going to give it like you know some type of closure right and also comes down to like amphibians amphibians need a lot more humidity so you need a plant that has a lot more of a tolerance for the high humidity compared to other plants cuz some are different some will not survive with high humidity some only need that it's very very complicated if you have Gros like I do I would recommend using pathos plants any species doesn't really matter any type of bmad any type of um just vining plant that they can climb on you can use fake or real it doesn't really matter um but then again for you know bioactive enclosur like I was talking about you need um perfect humidity a good Cleanup Crew a good substrate for them to hide in and you need to make sure that your animal is not being starved CU if it is if you're not feeding it enough right then prob you start eating those animals which is not good especially if you have like an expensive species of isopod like the rucky isopod it's just not a good um not a good thing another thing with these bioactive enclosures is that they're supposed to be like U you know naturalistic so you know a a good background would also be amazing if you have any aoral animals for you know that like the climb because if you don't they most can't stick to like glass it's very very you're kind of losing space in the enclosure right so you you want to be making going to be you taking up all that space in the enclosure since enclosures normally when they're made bioactive should be very very uh naturalistic you know they're supposed to have cool backgrounds and all these beautiful things personally I feel like you don't need that I don't have them in in your mind but I will be showing you some cool ones right like here and here and right there those are some cool um ideas if you want to build your own this is my first video if you did not know that and I will be making more on my cres geckos and any other future reptiles I have in the future um so yeah that's it for today
