Types of Long-Term Memory

this video is going to look at the different types of memory so on your specification you've got to know about episodic semantic and procedural memory and we'll go through each of these in this video so the first one is an episodic memory now episodic memories refer to personal events or experiences that you've had in your life so it could be a place you visited an event that's happened to you so an example of an episodic memory would be when you remember the first day of school or a holiday that you took maybe with your family last year semantic memories are facts or general knowledge so an example of a semantic memory would be knowing the meaning of key words or places so an example might be when you're asked what's the capital of England of course you know the answer is London however you've relied on your semantic memory to help you recall that particular fact and procedural memory this is our memory that helps us recall information on complicated skills so if you think about all the things you've learned maybe riding a bike learning to swim tying your shoelaces they're all procedures they're all things you've had to learn to do and that information recalling those things is all based on your procedural memory
