Steps to Create a List of Figures

  1. Prepare Your Document

    • Ensure figures are ready to be captioned.
  2. Inserting Captions for Figures

    • Right-click on the figure:
      • Select "Insert Caption".
    • Alternatively, go to the References tab:
      • Find "Insert Caption" in the caption group.
    • The caption will default to "Figure 1", "Figure 2", etc.
  3. Customizing Captions

    • Exclude prefixes (like "Figure") by unchecking the prefix option.
    • Create a new label by clicking on "New Label" (e.g., rename to "Example").
    • Add chapter-wise numbering:
      • Click on "Numbering" in the insert caption box.
      • Check the option for chapter numbering.
  4. Inserting the List of Figures

    • Choose the location for the list (e.g., bottom of the document).
    • Go to References tab:
      • Click on "Insert Table of Figures".
      • Click "OK" to generate the list automatically.

Updating the List of Figures

  • Right-click on the list to update.
  • Two options for updating:
    • Update entire table.
    • Update only page numbers.
  • Recommended: Choose "Update entire table" for comprehensive updates.
