Overview

  • Tenses: The foundation of language and reflection of verb projections.
  • Is, Am, Are, Was, Were, Do, Did, Does are aux verbs.
  • Using the articles correctly: "A", "An", "The".

Introduction

  • "Do" is used to indicate action.
  • "Do" is used for plural subjects and "Does" for singular subjects.
  • "Did" is used for the past tense.
  • Several types of questions exist where the answer could be yes or no.

Usage of Could, Should, Would

Could:

  1. Past ability:
    • Could plus v1: When one could do something in the past (e.g., I could climb trees when I was younger.)
  2. Modified probability:
    • Could be: Possibly (e.g., He could be busy.)
  3. Past possibility:
    • Could have: When something could have happened in the past but didn't (e.g., He could have passed the exam if he had studied hard.)

Should:

  1. Advice or suggestion:
    • Should plus v1: Suggesting something to someone (e.g., You should eat healthy food.)
  2. Expectation:
    • When you have an expectation from someone (She should respect her elders.)
  3. Moral obligation:
    • (e.g., You should not talk during the movie.)

Would:

  1. Expectation/Condition:
    • Hypothetical conditions or future expectations (e.g., We would go if we had time.)
  2. Habit (Past):
    • Past habits (e.g., As a child, he would play for hours.)

Articles

  • Correct usage of articles in English:
    • Use 'A' and 'An' with the appropriate consonant and vowel sounds/letters.
    • Differentiation in speech and written English.
    • Articles must be used according to different sounds.

Practice

  • Verb Forms: Three important forms are:
    • Base form of the verb
    • Past form of the verb
    • Past participle form of the verb
  • The most important part to always remember: is, am, are / would / could be in the future.

Types of Present Tense

  1. Simple
    • Ends in ta, ti, te
    • Rule: "Do" for plural, "Does" for singular.
  2. Continuous
    • Adding ING to the verb form
    • Rule: Singular with Are, Am, Is and ING
  3. Perfect
    • Third form of the verb + have, has
    • Completed action
  4. Perfect Continuous
    • Third form of the verb + been + ING
    • Completion + Continuation
