Overview
The Urban Redevelopment Authority (URA) unveiled Singapore's Draft Master Plan 2025, outlining significant developments in housing, parks, community hubs, and heritage conservation to guide the city's growth over the next 10 to 15 years.
New Housing Areas and Neighbourhoods
- New public and private homes planned for Kranji (former Singapore Racecourse), Dover, and Newton (about 5,000 units).
- Paterson to gain 1,000 private homes and a mixed-use development above Orchard MRT.
- New neighbourhoods proposed for Defu, Sembawang Shipyard, Bukit Timah Turf City, Marina South, Greater Southern Waterfront, Pearls Hill, and Mount Pleasant.
- Housing mix in Defu is still under study.
Integrated Community Hubs
- Three integrated community hubs will be built in Sengkang, Woodlands North, and Yio Chu Kang within 10–15 years.
- Each hub will combine sports facilities, healthcare, and community spaces, located near MRT stations.
Bishan Business Node Development
- Bishan set to become a business node with new mixed-use developments, bringing offices closer to homes.
- Planned upgrades include a new hawker centre, polyclinic, and revamped bus interchange.
- Some government agencies may relocate to Bishan.
New Parks and Green Spaces in Kranji
- Authorities are studying the addition of four new parks: Kranji Reservoir, Sungei Pang Sua, Sungei Mandai, and former Singapore Racecourse.
- Plan involves creating a nature corridor for ecological connectivity and recreation.
Conservation of Heritage Buildings
- Over 30 buildings proposed for conservation, including NatSteel’s Steel Pavilion, former Pasir Panjang English School, and 20 buildings at Bukit Timah Turf City.
- Recognizes historical significance and development contributions of these sites.
Additional Identity Nodes
- Three new identity nodes identified: Newton, Moonstone Lane Estate, and Siglap, bringing total to 21.
- Efforts to retain distinctive character and heritage through design guidelines.
Enhancements in Pedestrian Connectivity
- Planned elevated pedestrian link between Dhoby Ghaut Green and Fort Canning Park.
- New park to be created integrating Istana Park, Dhoby Ghaut Green, and part of Orchard Road.
- New bridge linking Marina Centre and Gardens by the Bay’s Bay East Garden to be completed by 2029.
Redevelopment Ideas for Jurong Bird Park and Jurong Hill
- Winning proposals highlight repurposing iconic features for recreation and heritage, including converting Jurong Hill Tower into a museum.
- Suggestions include using the Waterfall Aviary for rock climbing and Flamingo Lodge for eateries and event spaces.
