A common mistake that creators make is that they start uploading videos without turning on any important setting as soon as they create their new channel. Please don't do this. Today I will tell you 9 most important settings which will set up your YouTube channel completely after turning it on. And you will be ready to upload videos.
People ask me that what settings did I turn on while creating Decoding YT. So watch the video completely, I will tell you everything. With these settings you will get more features in your channel. Your channel will be secure. and also you'll get more subscribers.
Even if your channel is very old, watch this video till the end to make sure that all your settings are correct. Let's begin. For the first setting, we'll go to YouTube Studio and click on the settings icon in the bottom left hand corner.
Then we'll select channel here and then we'll click on feature eligibility. You can see we have a standard, intermediate, and advanced features Standard features are automatically enabled as soon as you create a channel as long as there is no active community guideline strike in your channel After this, we have intermediate features This is very important because without enabling this, you can't upload long videos for 15 minutes you can't do live stream and most importantly, you can't even use custom thumbnails So this is the first setting that every creator should turn on For this, you have to click on verify phone number And you will be redirected to a different page where you have to select a country and add your phone number and then you have to click on get code then enter the verification code you got and congrats your phone number is verified and finally we have advanced features which you can use to apply for monetization you can add clickable links in the video description You can post community, you can pin comments and you will get many more features that you can read here. To know the full list of features, there is a link of an article in the description, you can read it.
To enable advanced features, first your intermediate features should be enabled. And after that, you have to choose one of these three verification methods. First is video verification, in which you have to make a 30-second video by following the prompts on the screen while looking at your camera. Then there is verification using a valid ID. Basically, you have to upload a picture of your government ID like passport or driver's license.
And lastly, we have the option to build channel history. If you do verification with this method, then you just have to stay active on your channel, upload videos, and within approximately 2 months, your advanced features will be enabled automatically. For Decoding YT channel, advanced features were enabled with this method only, but I don't think you would want to wait for so long.
So, I recommend that you use video verification method, because it takes the least time. After you select this, You will get an email from where you can easily complete the video verification process And yeah, once you complete that, you will have access to every YouTube feature For the second setting, we will come to the basic info section of the channel menu And here we will get the option to select country of residence Now, although this setting is self-explanatory That you have to select the name of the country in which you live But some creators have a common misconception that the country you name, your views also come from there. So like a lot of people make videos for the US audience, so I have seen that they select US in country of residence. So don't make this mistake.
YouTube itself says that the country you select here, it only determines whether you are eligible for the YouTube Partner Program or not. So if you live in India, select India only so that there is no issue in monetization. The third setting is just below this.
that is channel keywords YouTube hasn't said much about this all it says is that you have to add keywords related to your channel how keywords are not mentioned so I'll tell you what I did for decoding first of all, we'll add the name of our channel like this experiment channel is called nano nerd hub so I'll put the first keyword then you can write the individual words of the channel name like nano, nerd and hub then you can write the name of the channel in which niche you are You can also write the things you make around your channel And finally, you can add the names of 2-3 popular creators of your niche as keywords For the 4th setting, click on the Advanced Settings section of the channel menu And here you'll get the option to select your channel's audience Made for kids or not made for kids So, which one should we select from these? So you have to select made for kids only when your video's target audience is only kids i.e. viewers under the age of 13 For example, if it's a decoding YT video, then adults can also watch it and a 10 year old kid can also watch it, who has a YouTube channel But are my videos especially made for kids? Of course not That's why I mark my videos as not made for kids Made for kids.
Whereas if I had a nursery rhymes channel, then obviously its target audience would be only kids. Because it is especially made for kids. In that case, I would mark videos as made for kids.
I'm sure most people's content would be not made for kids. But still, if you're confused about your channel and your videos, then I recommend that you read the article in the description and determine whether your videos are made for kids or not made for kids. Go to any well-known YouTuber's video and you'll see that they have a very long well-written description.
Obviously, if you have to write such a long description again and again, it will take a lot of effort. So, to avoid this effort, we will use setting number 5. Go to Upload Defaults menu in Channel Settings. And here we have the option to select Default Title, Default Description, Default Visibility, and Default Tags.
So, first of all, you can give a quick introduction about your channel in the description. You can add social media links and also add some hashtags relevant to your channel. Then in the tags section, add your channel name in a few different ways and save it. Now, next time when you upload videos, all this will be written in the description and tags.
After that, click on advanced settings and here will be another setting, allow automatic chapters and key moments. Now chapters are very helpful for a YouTube video especially if your video has a lot of topics covered then you should definitely add chapters as it can help increase watch time as well So if you keep this setting on then YouTube will have the option to automatically add chapters to your videos which is good to listen to but not good in actual Automatic chapters are very unreliable and inaccurate and it is very rare that YouTube adds all the chapters correctly That's why I recommend to keep this setting off and add chapters to your videos. Now, before we move to the next setting, I want to talk about a tool that has helped my channel's growth a lot. And that is VidIQ. VidIQ has a lot of features that are necessary for the growth of a YouTube channel.
For example, their Keywords tab, where you can find keywords with more search volume and less competition. Which means that a new channel can also rank on these keywords and get more views. We also have vidIQ's AI generated daily video ideas. This tool studies your niche trends and suggests many video ideas. And it also predicts the chances of getting views on that video idea.
Apart from this, there's this really amazing tool called the AI Coach. Who's like a YouTube mentor who will answer questions related to your channel and guide you. Like you can ask him to review your channel. And he will tell you what are the pros and cons of your channel.
And what suggestions he has for you. And these are just 3 out of so many helpful tools to vidIQ offers. Of course, you can try out the free version.
But if you want to access all the features completely, then today you can get their boost plan with a special discount. Click on the special link in the description or pinned comment and you will get a 90% off discount for the first month. For the next setting, we will come to the channel customization page of YouTube Studio.
then we will click on basic info and here at the bottom you will get the option to add your contact info basically you have to add an email address for business purpose like collaborations sponsorships etc now the mistake 99 creators will make is that they will add the same email id which makes their youtube channel if you do this then the chances of your channel being hacked will increase because that email id will be publicly visible to everyone including hackers So I recommend you to add any other email id here Or create a separate email account just for business purpose So that your channel is secure To secure your channel, there is another very important setting Setting number 9 So don't miss it For the 7th setting, we will organize our channel page For this, come to the layout section of the channel customization page Here the first option is to add a channel trailer Basically, if a user is visiting your channel for the first time and he hasn't subscribed to your channel, then the video you add to your channel's homepage is called the channel trailer. So you can add that from here. After this, we have featured video for returning subscribers. The video you select here will be seen by those who have subscribed to your channel. If a subscriber has seen that video before, then in that case they will not see it.
Next, we have the option to turn on or turn off the for you section. This section is on the homepage of YouTube channels and videos are recommended based on the viewer's interest So you can choose whether to turn it on or off If you keep it on, you can also decide what content should be in this section by clicking on more settings And finally, we have Featured Sections With the help of this option, you can divide your channel page into different sections For example, on Dhruv Rathee's channel See, there's a history education section, science section, geopolitics section. So these are all the different playlists of their channel, which have been brought to the channel page with the help of this setting. So in the same way, you can also customize your channel. If you click on add section, then you can add popular videos, playlists, feature channels, and many more things to get a customized look.
With this next setting, I get 100 per month. 200 extra subscribers. To access it, go to the branding section of the customization page and here you'll get the option to add a video watermark. This will basically work like a call to action button in the bottom right corner of your videos. Which means if viewers hover over it, they will get the option to subscribe your YouTube channel.
Here you can upload your channel's logo, like I did for Decoding YT. And if you want, you can add a subscribe icon like this. You can also customize the display time if you want.
You can choose whether this icon will appear at the end of the video, stay in the whole video, or come at a custom time. This last setting is very important for your channel's security, and yet it is ignored by most creators. It is called 2-step verification. If this setting is off for your account, then you will be seeing this notification at the top of the YouTube Studio. that your account is at greater risk of attack because you don't have two-step verification now why is this important let's say google account password steal in that case if your account has two-step verification off then that hacker will take only a few seconds and he will sign in your account on his device where if you have turned on two-step verification After entering the hacker's password, Google will recognize that your account is being signed on a new device And an extra confirmation prompt will be sent to your phone Without tapping on it, the hacker will not be able to sign in to your account That's why it is very important to turn it on All you have to do is click on get started Select a device on which you want to receive notification Add a backup option And click turn on.
And congrats, your account is now fully secured. So these were some important settings on which every creator should pay attention when creating a YouTube channel. Of course, a channel doesn't grow from the right settings. So if you want to grow, you need a proper roadmap as I have explained in this video.
If you follow what I have explained in this video, then this year your chances of becoming a successful YouTuber will be 10x. So quickly click on this video and watch. And yeah.
I will meet you there. Bye!
