[Music] in chapter 3 time passes and we see how effective the animals are at running the farm on their own the Harvest is the largest in the Farm's history they're doing it faster and better now the pigs have taken over as the supervisors and the horses boxer and clover have fallen into a role as the most productive helpers but every animal really gets involved even the Ducks and hens pick up stray hay and prevent waste pretty much every animal enjoys the fruits of their labor that summer but the animals discover that milk is going into the pigs' mash pigs are also claiming apples too now Squealer with his gift for gab argues that the pigs need it for brain power other than that all the animals are getting rations according to their specific needs they're doing their share of the work except for Molly the spoiled White Horse and a cat who neglect their duties and give lots of excuses but boxer on the other hand Works harder than ever while Benjamin the donkey continues to do as he always had and seems to have no opinions of the Rebellion Sunday mornings are flag ceremonies and meetings the pigs Napoleon and snowball starting to fight quite a bit but the meetings always end peacefully and with the singing of Beasts of England the remainder of the day is spent for rest and relaxation it's a communist Utopia but there are dark clouds on the horizon some foreshadowing in the forms of a couple different instances one is that the pigs say they want to teach all the animals to read and write but really none of the others even learn more than a few words and also Napoleon keeps nine of the dogs pups for himself he doesn't really say why but that's going to be important soon in chapter 3 the pig's influence and control is evident for example giving orders that the humans like to do keeping milk and apples for themselves as a kind of privilege it implies that their mental labor is more important than the physical labor being done and the Animals sense unfairness but Squealer keeps silencing them with fear do you want Mr Jones to come back or what now keep in mind also that the animals aren't fully being educated they're being told General gists but the pigs continue to educate themselves creating a totalitarian likee distance between their powerful leadership and the masses working and LA in to keep them in positions of privilege Benjamin is an important and troubling character here too he understands what's going on but doesn't do anything about it
