Yr 7 First Aid revision
Write notes about the following:
1. What do the following stand for in DRSABCD, and explain each?
Danger. You have to check for any danger that could hurt you or the patient
Response. You need to do ‘C.O.W.S’ C- “can you hear me?” O- “open your eyes”. W- “ what's your name” S- “squeeze my hand”
Send for help. You need to call 000 and the emergency numbers on their phone
Airways. If their airways are blocked you have to tilt their head back with their chin and get it unblocked with your fingers. ONLY IF NEEDED.
Breathing. You need to check to see if they are breathing - feel over their mouth and their chest.
CPR. CPR stands for cardiopulmonary resuscitation. In which you have to give adults 30 chest compressions and 2 breaths. For children over one do 100 to 120 chest compressions each minute. For a baby do the same as you would do for and adult but with two fingers.
Defibrillation. If an AED is available you need to use it and follow ALL instructions of how to place the defib ect.
2. What is the recovery position, and explain why and how you would put someone in the position?
Lay the patient flat on their back and put one leg in a 90 degree angle and put one arm against the chest and roll them onto their side. The recovery position is the position you would put a patient in if they are unconscious, the tongue will not roll to the back of the throat and the airways will not be able to get blocked.
